I completely butchered the link of the previous thread, so here it is properly:

If it had come out alongside the PS2, even with DVD support for films just like the PS2 had, do you really think the 100 million people that had the PS1 would've skipped on Sony's backwards compatible PS2 for a Dreamcast? I love SEGA, I love the Dreamcast, but I have to say that, sadly, the answer's obvious, most would've still gotten a PS2, and Nintendo fans would've waited for a Game Cube just like they waited for N64. SEGA lost most of their western market to PlayStation, their only chance of getting that back would be for Sony to mess things up, and they didn't at all.

This.

When people judge the Dreamcast's library, which is full of good stuff in pretty much all major genres by the way, they forget how it didn't even have many years in the market...

I recall a year back or so, maybe longer, we had a thread, another one of those threads for /vr/ to make a list of the 100 video games of all time or something. I usually don't like these all that much as the 100 lists always look similar, that's not bad of course as it just means that most of us have a general idea of what the overall best titles ever released actually are, but still that's why I don't care much for them, it's usually a whole thread, a poll, to end up with a list that we already sort of know what it's going to look like, and I wish we could have more fun with these lists, anyways a while back we had a thread with a new idea for it. It's simple, 5 "(You)s" is all it takes to get into it.

>All it takes are posts and replies in this thread
>If something's been posted then give it a (You)
>If not then make the post with a title yourself
>100 titles that get 5 votes first make it into it.

I know it's not the most accurate way to do this, but that's the point, it's not about accuracy, it's about making a 100 list with, of course, the same usual titles that make it in due to their quality or fanbase they've built, but also some alternative titles that never make it into these lists using the poll formats as they're just not popular enough, despite being good video games that deserve a lot of love and recognition as quality titles that people should check out, a list that can not only try to decide what the 100 best are, but also go off the beaten path and helps us discover new titles to play that are good and we might've not given much attention before checking the list.

I'm glad SEGA died, to see them become pure goyslop like what happened to Sony and even Microsoft, though they always had less SOVL, would be crushing, SEGA died making the last console to ever put the arcades and their own direction of how to make video games as their priority, after that the arcade to home console scene was never the same. SEGA was amazing.

I'd love to have a proper physical collection, the feel of the real controllers, the CRTs, the actual disks and cartridges, boxes and manuals in your hands... there's nothing like it, and it's a superb sight to see... but it's way too expensive now, I'd really love to have, but if you're on a budget or simply have other, more important and urgent, spendings to make, there really is no argument.

At the moment I'm trying to save up as much as I can to move out of my parents house, pay for my wedding, adopt a dog that my GF wants, etc... it all costs more than I'd expect, living is expensive.

So for now I'll stick to the TVs I already have, with CRT shaders, ROM sets and RetroArch instead of disks/cartridges and consoles, and accurate retro controllers to get some of that authentic feeling.

Still, if anyone here has the budget, space, time and passion to manage a proper physical setup, even if it's a small one, I think that's incredible, it all dies at the end anyway, that goes for HDDs or SSDs too, brand new PCs, everything... so it really doesn't matter if this older hardware will die at some point, what matters is experiencing while it's still here, and taking good care of it. Cheers.

This.
A lot of people have this "It's inferior to the arcade and therefore it sucks" as if it has no merit, when this port came out it was quite insane for most players to see something so accurate to the arcade at home, sure arcade ports weren't perfected until Saturn and the Dreamcast especially, but Genesis was solid.

It build SEGA a lasting market presence, both the Saturn and Dreamcast failed, especially Saturn, it would've been enough to kill any company, SEGA managed to stick around as a 3rd party though, I don't think this would've happened if the Mega Drive wasn't as big as it was, also a lot of SEGA's most beloved franchises are from the Mega Drive days, they're definitely quite memorable still...

It's not the IP's fault, nor the Mega Drive's fault, that SEGA failed to make the Saturn good and to bring over their major franchises to it, it was just SEGA being awful, which is why they quit afterall.

>Oh, I wasted time talking to a stupid fanatic. My mistake.
I don't think he's a fanatic at all, the argument wasn't bad, of course it's possible that 90's SEGA, due to their track record, could've messed up even something like the PlayStation, but had they agreed to partner with Sony and release the PlayStation instead of the Saturn, more or less the same way Sony did, with decent price and way before the Nintendo 64 came out, they could've taken that generation all for themselves even without Sonic. I'm glad things happened the way they did though, as much as I love SEGA, I don't mind that we got the Saturn and Dreamcast, they were solid in their own way.

We play video games to have fun... but we also do love challenging ourselves and accomplishing things, overcoming obstacles and questioning ourselves if we're capable of pulling something off or not, of course a guaranteed win can be fun, relaxing from time to time, but every once in a while we play something that can be downright frustrating, and yet we keep playing, because we want to defeat it, to win. Of course said accomplishments can be more meta too, for collectors especially, acquiring something they've wanted, either a single copy or a whole series, rare cartridges/disks, etc.

>What is your personal proudest video game accomplishment?
>How long did it take for you to finally succeed?
>Did you ever think about giving up on it?
>Are there any more honorable mentions besides this main one?

I have a few that I'm quite happy with, like my 1CC 100% run in Sonic the Hedgehog (1991/SMD), or my 100% save file for Crash Bandicoot (1996/PS1), among others... but the one I'm most happy with is in Spider-Man (2000/PS1) which I wanted to 100% ever since I was a kid, and every few months or years I'd try again, but there was a single suit that felt impossible to get, the Quick-Change one, which required 10.000 points in one of the training modes, which pretty much meant 23 frame perfect jumps in a row in a barely doable time limit, I thought I'd never do it... but this year I finally did it.
