Is this going to keep increasing in price if I don't buy it now? Apparently it already cost 30 more dollars.

Do you guys think the future of retro gaming will be in the form of FPGAs? We can easily replicate ASICs cycle accurately with no cost to performance, and we can easily "reflash" them to have different ASICs.
Additionally, you can theoretically use the FPGA to replace a dying chip in a board, giving new life to long lost consoles without the need of buying a brand new console to harvest parts from.
Pic rel, it's the Mister, which can emulate a few good consoles and arcade cabinets, although it's a bit limited.

No RGB output for PS1, only HDMI. Gee Mister, that's not good hardware emulation.

Is it legitimately better than software emulation for 8/16-bit consoles, or is it just a meme project?

I have an Xbox Series S coming in a few weeks, is there any point owning both a mister FPGA and a Series S, when the does emulation with runahead on Retroarch? I don't have a CRT either, so wouldn't benefit from that.

I'd be loading the retail version of Retroarch on the console, so switching between dev and retail mode isn't an issue. Is there any advantage to owning a mister in my case?

Has the dust settled yet?

With dev mode apps released on xbox series s/x is there any reason to use this over retroarch on the xbox ss/sx? Runahead more or less matches mister's lack of input lag and there is great compatibility and refinement among consoles that work with Mister. Is there any reason to keep my mister at this point other than using original controllers?

Why don't you own an FPGA yet? You can get everything aside from a few Neo Geo games for under 200 bucks.

RGB output from a NES alone will run you around 150 bucks, assuming you already own one and just need a flashcart and NESRGB. If you're fine with composite, it's still 50 bucks.

PC engine? You're looking at 80 bucks just for the console, another hundred for a CD add-on, or another 250 for a super SD system 3. And you'll still have garbage video output.

Mega CD? 20 bucks for a Mega Drive, another 80 for a CD unit, plus another 30 for a flashcart.

SNES is an easy 60 bucks, gameboys are going to the fucking moon, and the less said about Neo Geo, the better. Even assuming you own half these systems already, the value proposition alone is pretty compelling.
