That depends on the controller, the operating system and how you want to use it.

Xbox360 works wireless and wired with all windows versions
Xbox One works wireless and wired except for windows 7 for which you need manually download and install the drivers (which MS was scrubbed from the internet)
Xbox Series works wireless (ONLY on W10 and Android) and only wired with windows 7/8 only after installing Xbox One gamepad drivers (which MS was scrubbed from the internet)

And last but not least the D-pad sucks ass for retro games, sure it's playable but why settle if you can easily find controllers that have a nicer d-pad and actually work universally wired or wireless. Xbox controllers are nice for modern games but if you're more into retro stuff I'd go for one of those in OP's pic. I hate MS so much its unreal.

Perhaps I am reading into it too much, I think I was in a bad mood in general + he talks about how he makes games 24/7 for like the last 30 years but still acts like he's a god his early successes. You ever check his wikipedia? Who is editing his credits list, there's just a list of games there and it makes it look like he personally developed them, meanwhile there are inclusions like red faction and I was like "john romero worked on red faction?" and if you follow the links it's like "John Romero devlops Red Faction port for the Nokia N-Gage like ???? Isn't that an important detail to include so that his resume isn't misleadingly bloated with titles he didn't actually create? But overall you're right, I need some sleep and to be less bitchy, thanks fren
