about three months ago

Murrica. Massachusetts, to be exact. Yeah, eBay is useless for CRTs because of scalpers and assholes. Plus, who wants to ship a CRT anyway? But around these parts, "Trinitron" is one of the meme words that calls retro vidya fags like a moth to a flame. That particular set is in high demand because it's one of the only consumer TVs in the states that came with an RGB input, and it's 25 inches which is bigger than most PVMs. The only bigger professional RGB monitor I'm aware of is a 30 inch made by Mitsubishi, I think.

I was just surprised it wasn't already snapped up after two hours. About 10 years ago when I snagged a PVM off of craigslist, I was using an independent app to alert me to new listings, and I managed to call mere minutes after it went up. The guy told me that, after we hung up, he got FLOODED with calls until he finally took the listing down. He probably regretted listing it for free.

Posting a pic of my setup from back before I moved because I feel like I've posted my current setup too much, and I legit find my older one a bit comfier because of how much more simple it was.

I wouldn't go that far. True audiophiles are insufferable, the same as any overbearing enthusiast, but there's no need to strawman everyone into one just because they like things to sound good. If you're already scrounging flea markets and ebay for old video games and CRTs, it's really not that much more effort to find a cheap, decent audio amplifier and a set of bookshelf speakers. "Audiocuck-anon" is tiresome, but the lack of proper audio in most /vr/ battlestations really only proves how many are simply riding the bandwagon on the CRT fad. If you care enough about the presentation of your games to wrangle someones dusty old CRT into your home, you may as well go the extra half-mile and make it sound decent, too. Pic related cost me all of 25 bucks at a church fair.

8-bit stuff gains some serious punch, and Genesis stuff sounds fucking amazing when it's pumped through a system with decent bass. The recorded tracks from CD-based systems like Saturn and PS1 are exponentially more impressive for every $5 more you are willing to spend on better amps and speakers. I'm glad I fully upgraded my system before replaying Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast because the sound design in the game is downright cinematic.

This, basically, but phrased a bit less dickishly.

Yeah, the top picture is just after I moved. The bottom is several months later. It used to be in a tiny computer room wedged between a bookshelf and a TV stand, but I thought the other picture highligted the growth better.

Thanks! I was trying to use authentically retro components for everything. The speakers are from 2010-ish, but the next newest thing is the monitor which was 1997. The equalizer is 1993, the VCR is 1990, and the amplifier is 1977.

Here's an older setup from before I moved, using an old Sony stereo receiver. I got it at a church fair for like $1.25. Sounded great, though. Gave it a good cleaning and it worked like new. I fucking love old electronics.
