Another old website that I was fond of is Secrets of Sonic Team. This site documented alpha and beta versions of every Sonic Team game ever made, including games like NiGHTS and Billy Hatcher. I used to browse it for hours when I was a 14 year old Sonic fanboy.

And now that site is basically dead as well. The moderator left the site to rot and now its full of malware and trojans. I dont go on it anymore because whenever I do my virus protection freaks the fuck out. Bummer, because it was a great site.

Yes and no. Sonic was created during the cartoon renaissance in the wake of Roger Rabbit. I presume Sega of Japan caught wind of it and designed a character that would appeal to Westerners at that time.

It's obvious the human girl in pic related was one of many concepts inspired by Roger Rabbit. Even Sonic himself was going to be a rabbit at some point. Japan seemed to have a partial grasp of what was popular in America, but they didn't seem to grasp the "gnarly dude" brand of cool that was emerging there.

So what we got was this strange hodgepodge of Eastern and Western tastes.
