Really it's a combination of multiple things, one being how arcades were still a thing

As a small kid I loved entering these smoke-infested dens with loud eurodance music playing. Any picture with arcades full of early/mid-90's games is hugely nostalgic for me.

It's sad sometimes how much society has changed completely, especially after the internet. Arcade culture was just one of many things destined to be a fleeting moment in history.

Yeah. The 2000s were still pretty good though (mostly the first half). Internet culture was at its best at least.

now matter how hard you cling to retro games, you will never replicate the social conditions that accompanied them. How does that make you feel?

Hey guys, can anyone help, i'm looking for footage of real 90's arcades.

Not hipster 'arcade bars' that are popping up everywhere nowadays, just some raw footage of someone uploading some handicam footage of a real 90's arcade, with people playing, 90's fashion, etc etc.
Random chatter with players would be great too.
Bonus multipier if 'classic 90's games like sf2, mk, final fight, simpsons arcade, metal slug, daytona etc make an appearance.

I'll also gladly accept any 'promotional' or 'corporate' vhs rips of arcades, even with fake actors and stuff, but as long as it is at least period authentic. The more cheese the better.

To give you an idea of what i'm looking for, this is about the closest i could find, some radical vhs promoting the genesis version of street fighter. 43 secs in has some nice, authentic arcade comfiness, even if the actors are pretty in-authentic with the over the top reactions.

another is

https://youtu.be/urkKKXlJdy4?t=231

which is authentic throughout, but fairly bad quality, and little variety.

It's very easy to find this sort of thing for consoles and games, lots of tv commercials, promo vhs's, staff training videos etc etc are easy to find but NOT for arcades :(

The golden age of arcade games is generally agreed to be the late 70s to early 80s: the era of Space Invaders, Pac Man and Donkey Kong. With that in mind, would it be fair to consider the fighting game boom of the first half of the 90s to be the silver age of arcade games?

Oh jeez, Millers Outpost! That's where I got all my jeans! They had awful commercials on TV, but inside the store was this awesome diorama of an old west town with a steam locomotive heading towards it.

Well, I don't think I started going to arcades (outside of our local Showbiz Pizza trips on my birthdays) until about '85 or '86. If you need someone to reminisce about the arcade scene from the mid '80s on, I'm here.

We had AWESOME arcades where I was from.

Arcades were fucking scary places man. If you were a kid you had to grow up real quick. Someone pulled a knife on me for beating his ass in Fatal Fury. A group of older girls grabbed my dick and ass while I was playing Samurai Shodown. I was offered to buy drugs multiple times. Older guys threatened me so I'd give them money... If you wanted to play the latest and coolest shit, that's where you went tho. Mario on the NES back home couldn't really compare to something like GROWL or Space Gun.

I never got to play on arcades. I was born too late for the craze over here in the States.

They always seemed like fun to me but I can't imagine being 14 and wasting dollars to play a few moments of gaming. I can imagine myself dying within 2 minutes of playing a game and there goes 25 cents or more. Kids don't have money so every cent is precious. I can't play Mortal Kombat or Altered Beast on console, nevermind on arcade where every try costs you.

Was there some sort of thrill of it?
