I use BNC -> RCA adapters for consumer equipment. The signals are the same.

I know one guy personally who uses HD15 (high density 15 pins) for his consoles. I just use RCA because I have more random RCA cables than I do VGA cables. And BNC connectors are:
a) more expensive
b) less likely to be recycled off of consumer equipment (I do that a lot)
c) less likely to be found at a place like radio shack in a solderable form.

I do use RCA ->BNC adapters on the back of my monitors, though.
