I called them mayors before DKC then after it was captain for a while. But it's impossible to talk to Gen 6+ zoomers about video games.
Try to give a basic explanation of Super Mario Bros board 1-4. "The Dragon is the mayor of this board, axe the bridge to send him down to hell". Well kids call The Dragon "Papa Bowser" (to differentiate him from Bowser Junior) they think a board is wood (they have never seen a game board) and they don't know what hell means (because it's illegal to teach religion in school).
