At the beginning obviously.
Start with Thief Gold then Thief II.
Refer to pic related and make sure to get the patches mentioned.
TFIX for Thief 1
Tafferpatcher for Thief 2
These patches are essential.

Enjoy yourself. I'd argue Thief 1 and 2 are some of the best games of all time and my favourites

Any missions mentioned in pic related are a good place to start. Inverted Manse was great. Very reminiscent of Gold.

No. Thief is the type of game you play by yourself first time round with lights off.
Don't forget to get Tfix for T1 and Tafferpatcher for T2

Also install OpenAL to get EAX after you patch it.

I'm pretty sure this is because the base textures are paletized while the replacements aren't, since the game can handle other texture formats that don't need to be paletized anymore.

By the way, I updated the missions list.
