Because they fell for the "hitscan bad" meme without trying to understand why (something like doom 2's chaingunners is hated because there's no way to tell whenever he starts shooting, he just does; there's no sfw indication from his shots like tracer rounds or puffs ; each of his bullets do fucking RNG damage between 3 and 16 what the fuck id)
You fix these (windup animation to indicate whenever he starts shooting, make vfx for his bullets, don't do bullshit damage but still make it matter) and you make a more fair hitscan enemy

Might nothing. They are. I'll agree it can suck when you get shot in the buttcheek from halfways across the map for the last 5 HP you have, but they are absolutely vital for variety and making combat encounters more interesting.

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one I should do next. I actually did Ancient Aliens UV / Pistol Start / No Saves before this Plutonia run.

What are the differences between PRBoom+ and GLblom+?

Is it just the OpenGL renderer? Because PRBoom already has an OpenGL option, no?

Also, what does complevel -4 do? I notice it's the one Decino uses.

GZDoom modding wizards, I have a question:

It was brought to my attention that Perk's Enhanced Smooth Weapons (https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=32628)) makes the switching weapon time much faster than what you get in vanilla. I love the smoother weapon animations, but I feel like I'm getting an unfair advantage in being able to switch weapons this fast with it.

What do I have to look for/edit from SLADE to restore the vanilla switchweapon time?

Do it bitch, I bet you won't. I bet you don't have the balls to make a well balanced and engaging map with a strong focus on hitscanners but still some projectile monsters for the sake of variety and to avoid encounter fatigue.
Or maybe it's possible to have an entire level with hitscan based encounters and still manage to keep things interesting besides the standard "A wall opens up and we shoot your butt" routine.

Themed maps like that could actually make for a fun jam sorta thing.

I decided to do some single-player roleplaying when I started my ancient aliens+final doomer playthrough, typing out my character's thoughts and actions through the text chat system. I have now decided to do this with all future playthroughs, because it adds a little bit of immersion and because it's fun.
