Almost done with Descent 1.
What a game. Top tier music (OPL3), top tier gameplay. Probably the hardest commercially released FPS I've ever played, also one of the most unique ones. I didn't know there were secret levels until I found the first one.
Also didn't know what ship autoleveling did, but once I found out I turned it off and instantly became better at the game.
I'm also playing through Descent 2 at the same time, which is a lot easier, a lot more advanced, but I feel it isn't as memorable. Also, why only 4 midi tracks for 27+ levels. Wtf were they thinking.

Serious Sam TFE/TSE still give me heart palpitations during some encounters so I'd put them up there. Blood & Shadow Warrior are pretty nasty on some maps when doing sword/pitchfork start. Descent 2 is pretty tough but Descent 1 on insane is genuinely insane, couple that with doing clean starts on each level and it's probably the hardest commercially released FPS.

Descent 1 stops being a fun blast em up in level 6 and from then on turns into an anxiety simulator where turning a corner and opening a door without pre-cautions equates into death

Y'know, you can talk about it in the Doom thread, they welcome all classic FPS, including Descent

the bleeps and bloops are very descent-ish and some of it comes through in the redbook versions i justthink they are better put together than the more minimal midi versions
>>2764225
didnt know about the homebrew version
there is also a modern sourceport of forsaken which is free
https://github.com/ForsakenX/forsaken/wiki/Download-and-installation
its worth checking out the n64 version aswell which is completely different and surprisingly good
