I like this artwork. From the thumbnail I thought someone posted a screen of Duke Nukem 2001 leak.

The good :
PHANTOM FURY
Supplice

The bad :
No Aftershock (seriously?)
A mass of "boomer shooters" that are nothing like actual classic fps games validate that one anon's post of "boomer shooter" being the new pixel platformer.

The ugly :
Realizing how many underage streamer-fellating faggots post here. The worst ones at that.

There's some obnoxious little kid making shitty bait posts like that and trying to say something "controversial" similar to all those /v/ tier bait posts on the catalog. Pay him no mind.

Yeah, I agree with this a lot. I used to be adamant on playing everything on UV, then basically undoing all of the difficulty through savescumming which ended up feeling very unsatisfying.

I love Ion Fury and the "lived in" feel of the Build Engine games, especially IF but what Doom will probably forever have over those games, is the dynamic of monsters that feels really balanced and something that generates gameplay possibilities forever.

I would love for Ion Fury and other Build Engine shooters to get monsters that would end up functioning *together* well.

And I feel like Ion Fury's progression is so different that comparing the difficulty to DOOM wads is a bit odd. But if you're playing Ion Fury, you probably also should rely on checkpoint saves instead of quicksaving....

>Especially if you liked Insurgency.
Not familiar with it. Probably can't even launch it on my potato laptop. To continue with being serious, in both cases it's essentially about the overall vibe I get from the game. When it comes to F.E.A.R, I think it's mostly that specific horror aspect of it doesn't click with me. Don't really care about the genre usually with Blood and another retro FPS being an exception to that rule.
As for the Selaco... It seems secondary and "off-topic" in context of it being a part of the whole retro FPS niche. Unlike a bunch of shovelware you can stumble upon nowadays, I can't perceive it as being in the same group with Ion Fury, REKKR: Sunken Land and other aforementioned titles. Another major point would probably be the protagonist that, aside from being not-Shelly (I remember reading here that "female brunette protagonist" are overused in these FPS), is pushed into the "masses" as 'waifu icon'. You can make a point that whenever specific person think if she's cute or not is subjective opinion, but it just feels like that's all the character has to offer. Which, again, just doesn't make me care about the game as a whole. But most TL;DR here will be "I'm looking for retro FPS and this isn't one, so I skip it".

Don't forget to bake a new thread properly, lads.

Thankfully, her current version is better than whatever abomination they planned for DNF.
>>9183537
Re-release is good for your first Quake experience. It also offers easier co-op and deathmatch options, as >>9183552
mention. Including with bots, which is good for lazy bastards like me.
As for the Quakespasm... You can stick with it if you want, but nowadays people would mostly suggest Ironwail or vkQuake (again, as it was already mentioned by anons). QuakeSpasm-Spiked is also an option, just not as popular currently.

>she's being done dirty
I think she's fine, but there's definitely room for improvement. Aftershock art is by far the best iteration of Shelly.
Things could've been worse like those early Bombshell versions when she was meant to be a Duke Nukem character. Or that early design for her standalone game and Selaco girl, but both cases are off-topic territory.

>i'm aiming to rewrite all of kingpin and improve upon it massively but also stick faithfully to the original game's balancing.
Godspeed, anon. See you in 5+ years, during which Reloaded gets released.

She looks better on the Aftershock art.
