Unless I'm mistaken, any commercially available dumper should rely on the header to compile the completed image and not dump the rom purely in raw. IF that is so, using a corrupted header could cause the issues I've mentioned.

You see this chinese piece of shit? It claims to be a 256GB flashstick, but the truth is that it is not. It uses a false header to tell your computer there's 256GB of storage space, but in truth the actual size is unknown and any data stored on it is eventually corrupted by adding additional data. As in adding data begin to overwrite what is on the device and that is what I suggested might be occurring with these dumps, which are relying on easy to use commercially available dumpers.


You can't use hexedit to copy over a large section (as in skipping the first last few bites of usable code and copying everything else) of the code? I'm not telling you to shove a 4MB image into a 2MB file, I'm telling you to try using most of that later half to overwrite the majority of that 2MB image.
