I really like the fat PS2s.
The blue is really cool and I like the big PS2 logo/font.

There is not a single retro console more soulful than the PlayStation 2. And I'm not even talking about the game library.
I'm saying that the console itself, its design, its startup sequence, its user interface, is the most soulful a console can get.

I've got an old PS2 FAT for free (SCPH-30004) which hasn't been touched in ages, but it doesn't seem to work.
It turns on with green light, working disc drive and spinning fan, but the AV output is either non-existent, a black screen or it gets stuck in the splash screen.
I only could get as far as the Browser / System Configuration screen once before everything froze, but it usually get stuck much earlier on before I can even get any actual video output (I can still get the background audio playing sometimes though).
I've tried different Composite cables on multiple old television sets, so I'm pretty sure the cables and TV supported resolutions aren't the issue.
I've also already tried disassembling the console and changing the battery, but it did nothing.
Is this a known problem that has an easy solution I can try or should I just throw the whole thing in the trash because it's not worth repairing it?

By the way, I also got a PS3 with YLOD alongside it and I managed to make it work again using an heat-gun.
I get this isn't a permanent fix to a dead chip at all (which is why I don't want to try it on the PS2 unless I'm sure there's nothing else I can do) but whatever, I already had a working Slim and this was just going to be a Minecraft machine for my little cousin.

For the same reason Sony released a retro console in 2000.
