my favorite gotta be turbo outrun, for the underratedness. i'm mesmerized by the idea of a race across the continent, f40 cabrio is beyond cool, and the games throws tons shit at you, it's the opposite of the relaxing drive (jk, game over) of the original.
outrunners perfected this game style though. and road rash series gameplay is miles ahead of anything else in the genre.

this is not a game of this type. f-zero is an actual 2d racer like micro machines, super off-road and gran trak 10. we're talking about 1.5d ""racing"" games here.
