It's in fact the only outdoor source of light in Quake 2 maps, because there isn't a directional sunlight in the vanilla QRAD compiler.

That would be convenient, but since this is largely of academic/hobbyist value only, it's probably not that important, and modern processors are fast enough to crunch through that with a bearable duration.

Does that custom compiler have have multi-threading? Once again, I played around with Quake 2's QRAD using slow settings, and it still went fast due to multi-threading.
