Usually I need to dig through a lot of crap to find some good stuff. They're usually on some russian forums where they discuss new modifications. There's DrKhorn doing stained glass fanarts. I've also seen a guy trying to draw full body versions of Heroes from the series based only on their portraits. With so many people wanting old factions back or something new, they of course do concept artworks first. Usually however the joke towns and weirder factions are my favorite. Go search for Estancia town for Heroes of Might and Magic if you haven't seen it before.

There are not that many good good custom campaigns for H3 without mods sadly. The biggest issue being that because they can't add anything new, like new portraits, videos and such, they really have to demend on the plot and level design, which most of the time is a copypaste from already existing campaigns.

While I've been trying to avoid mentioning HotA modification, the three campaigns it currently offers are great, really varied with lots of custom things (as in not ripped from other games, but actually produced by the creators) that only add more to the original experience. Also the first campaign is easy for anyone to pick up, even for people who didn't play H3 in ages and the third campaign lets you choose any difficulty you want.

But I've seen more and more people dislike HotA lately and if you're one of them, I remember seeing a lot of really popular WoG and ERA single scenario modifications themed after books, Alexander the Great and etc.

Oh and if you haven't do played Heroes Chronicles (official independant campaings to H3) before, just do it. Do it for the storyline alone.
