Been on a huge Doom kick lately after ages, played through the megawad Valiant. Holy shit it blew me away, I think it's my favourite megawad ever, finally something I like more than Scythe1&2. Incredible map design (both aesthetically and in terms of layout), god tier gameplay flow and the new monsters/monster tweaks (e.g. imps' projectiles are faster) are so good. The star of the show though is that new chaingun, fuck me it's so satisfying.

Right after finishing Valiant I wanted more Doom so I loaded up Ancient Aliens, long time ago I started it but didn't bother completing it. It immediately became apparent how much I miss that awesome chaingun from Valiant, I think it has forever ruined Doom's chaingun for me unfortunately. I want Valiant 2 so bad, Skillsaw is incredible. I think I'd maybe give him the edge over Alm, but I'll have to return to the Scythes after to see. Very tough call. Skillsaw's maps are far more elaborately and intricately designed, more aesthetically pleasing, and he's made a lot more stuff. On the other hand Alm is probably the most influential mapper ever for modern Doom map design, you can feel his influence all over Valiant, but I do believe Valiant transcends the Scythes.

If you haven't played Valiant yet, get on that shit. Just amazing, I loved it so much. Here's a couple of audio webms from my experience:
