Lets see:
1. Better dpad, by a wide margin
2. L/R 1+2 is better
8bitdo wouldn't even exist as a brand if modern controllers where slightly better. But it also comes with multiplatform support, which is a huge selling point.

Its not a universal design.
There is a few problems:
-Material need to be good. There is a lot of controllers with good mechanism, but the material isn't good. So its too mushy or it takes a lot of effort to press down
-Either you can press down the center, or you can't. If you can't, its generally better because you can only input directions while applying force to the sides

No, its that the design is bad.
Some of the features, like switching dpad/l-analog input is really really nice.

For Xinput or for DirectInput? Because one requires a emulator/softwarelayer to work, and fiddling.
The other one works for all modern games.
