I hear people recommend I skip Arena and go straight to Daggerfall but I want to play every game in the series. How can I make my first time experience wtih Arena as painless as possible? Is there some way to build my character that makes the game smoother and more enjoyable?

Arena is fun and simple. Just play the game, get to Fang Lair, if you don't like it then move on.

But I think Arena is worth playing because its short and simple but Daggerfall is also pretty much more of the same. If you can't play Arena, you aren't going to have a good time with Daggerfall anyway.

In Half-Life 2 Episode Two (2007), there is a level called ‘Freeman Pontifex’.
Why are they calling Gordon Freeman the pope?

>> No.10857372

He will be the leader of a new religion after the defeat of the Combine. Actually that would be a cool idea, make it so the combine are defeated but Gordon Freeman becomes this theocratic leader who is just and wise at first but then becomes corrupted and establishes a tyrannical theocracy as bad as the Combine just in a different way. The player would play as a different character maybe Alyx who has been trapped in stasis for years while this has all gone on like Gordon was between Hl1 and HL2 and has to overthrow Gordon to save humanity.

Just a random idea, it would be a good satire of all the GORDON FREEMAN IS THE MESSIAH shit in Half-life 2

Pontifex means bridge builder in Latin. There's a broken bridge Freeman has to cross to get to some Resistance members which he accomplishes using a car to jump over it. Ergo, he's a pontifex now.

I love Final Fantasy IV, it's my favorite JRPG of all time (though FF1 comes close), it's just charming and authentic, but I have to admit Zemus/Zeromus was the weakest part. I suppose it doesn't really matter, because honestly a good adventure really is about the friends you made along the way, and they just needed to wrap things up, but it really was a bit of a "and here's the big bad behind the curtain, get'im!!". Of course it still felt meaningful taking this fucker down, especially when you get to see Golbez and FuSoYa going to town on him, and then getting "buffed" by a final reunion with your brother. PC and consoles had their exclusives and were happy to get any conversion at all. Megaman X for DOS might seem like a pretty crappy conversion but for a pc gamer they wouldn't normally get these games very often and they usually wouldn't have a console anyway so they would appreciate a new type of game.

Castlevania on dos is pretty good for what it is apart from the controls being weird. If you are good at the nes version you can get far in the pc version.
I think it was stuff like wipeout where they are just missing some transparency effects, this was common and expected at the time.

I came back to this game after nearly a decade, and it gets a lot better after 1-2 hours of playing and you actually get some gear.

Is Fallout 2 like this as well? I remember beating the tutorial for that, but I felt so drained after that, and I still felt like I was just beginning, that I didn't want to continue. Even with a shitty intro, I hear Fallout 2 is too bloated.

>> No.10856902

>Is Fallout 2 like this as well?
It depends on where you go, it's a lot more open and there's no time limit (I mean there is, but it's like 12 years)

>> No.10856927

>>10856887
Fallout 1 is a lot smaller than Fallout 2. Some of the mechanics aren't as developed and there is a lot of unfinished content. That being said, the smaller nature makes it more cohesive.

Fallout 2 is like Fallout 1 on steroids. They spent all of their time refining the existing mechanics and writing a million quests/locations/characters. The larger scope means it loses some cohesion and the quality can vary a bit. That being said there's probably more good stuff in Fallout 2 than there is stuff in Fallout 1 period.

They're so similar, I don't see how someone could like one of them and not the other.

>>10856902
The Fallout 1 time limit is one of those things that freaks people out even though it's basically irrelevant. You have more than enough time to do whatever you want unless you do aimless cross-California walking trips for zero reason.

>> No.10857563

>>10856887
Fallout 2 being "bloated" is its best quality. It's three times the game the original was. Everyone who played FO1 on release was craving more, and that's what they got. The devs managed to make a lot more because the groundwork was there. That's the best aspect of retro games we lost.

>> No.10857568

I like the timelimit of FO1, and I see it being very underrated. It compels the gameplay in a way that only Majora's Mask gets praised nowadays. (despite the cycle in that game ACTUALLY being irrelevant and just in the way)

Not only is this game outstanding on its own merits, it's all the more impressive for being the first in what would have been an iterative installment. Now, if it had gotten sequels, it would probably be looked back upon as diminutively as other first installments, so I can't exactly make a meaningful comparison between it and other first installments in fighting games. But I still think it's damn impressive.

Picrel is Railroad Tycoon 2. It's got a decent stock market system, but there's only a few things you can buy, just other train companies, or your own.

Drug Lord 2 is another game with a drug market. Not really a stock market and doesn't have decent charts and stuff but still functions in a market kind of way.

Any others? I'm sure I've seen some, i just can't remember what games they are

How come fans aren't making new levels with already existing assets for newer chapters of the manga? Or would the creation of a level-editor require the game to be decompiled? It'd look better than the 2016 anime at least.

I got good at typing by playing Neverwinter Nights persistent servers and various free MMOs with RP servers. Forced me to type and read quickly to keep up with other players. Now, I never learned proper touch typing from it so I type with only my index and middle fingers (plus pinkies for modifiers/enter and thumbs for space), but I still don't have to look at the keyboard and type faster than anyone I know.

Extremely cool. Makes me want to do big 4player games but game runs out of memory every time after about 20-30 minutes. Game needs to be reverse-engineered to be saved from its aged engine.

I had more fun with Final Liberation, Relic games never really "clicked" with me, idk the cover system felt barebones and overall the combat looked rather lacking in bloodshed to me, both in numbers(army size and sheer casualties) and in graphical effects, you don't even get a measly severed torso like in CoH, feels wrong for the license.
I don't care about sync kills since i'm a Tau chad and i don't even look at the M**l* toggle button.
