This is the 3rd time I've played through Tales of Symphonia, but the first time I've played the GC original, and... WOW

I cannot fathom how I played this game in the dogshit 30fps version it exists as in all the re-releases. I've always been a guy who laughs at muh 60FPS fags but it is just absurd how much smoother and silkier this plays vs the PS3 version, much less the 2023 port. And the sad thing is this is commonplace across all companies these days when it comes to port quality.

His American design is more in-line with American cartoon canon than with anime. Obviously they wanted to market it towards Americans and in the 80s/early 90s it wasn't that cool to be into anime, it was still very much fringe, if you even knew about it.

>> No.10879938

Can anyone explain why anime was verboten? Didn't Astro Boy do pretty well in the US?

>> No.10879940

>>10879938
Anime was not "verboten," it was just niche and not well known, at least in America, euros may have had more exposure idk. They just weren't making a lot of home media (tapes) or dubbing any anime, the market wasn't there yet. For example we didn't even get the first airing of Dragonball and Dragonball Z in the states until 1996. I don't think people were attaching the word "anime" to astro-boy, it was just a cartoon. Some may have known the difference, but these were the minority.

So I'm playing this game on original hardware, because I'm actually interested to see where the story goes considering Yoko Taro's rise these last few years.
I started it up. The first mission where you're fighting the guys assaulting your castle. I fucking started laughing.
I'm even a Dynasty Warriors simp but I'm just losing it. This game is hilarious.

Back when I was a kid my dad had a lot of games. I'd try them out for myself but could often never beat them because I sucked.

Recently I decided to make a list of such games and checking them off by going back to them and beating them (if they're enjoyable) with my newfound skills. I've found it gives me some direction and motivation to play different kinds of games.

Anyone there anyone else who does this kind of stuff?

>> No.10879502

On occasion I will play a game that gave me trouble back in the day to see if I can do it now.

Sometimes I find that games I could beat consistently as a kid give me a LOT of trouble now. I used to be able to beat Twisted Metal 2 nearly every run but when I revisited it recently I struggle around Holland. I guess I'm finally getting old.

My parents grew up before video games, so they never really cared about them. My older cousin however did have a ton of games, I tried making a list of them to the best of my ability but I don't remember every single game he had, it was a mix of SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast etc. And then other cousins of mine had games on N64 and PS1. So much to play back then. I still haven't even tried Tekken 2 or MGS, the last thing I did was just going through the Saturn library in general

I believe the way to check to see if they’re salvageable is to hold the disc up to a light with the shiny side towards you and make sure no light is showing through. If it doesn’t show through then the scratches aren’t too deep and could benefit from resurfacing.

I cant believe in 25 years there's still no good games in this genre. Why does every attempt fuck up a simple isometric shooter? Foxhole is complete ass even today in comparison to Infantry, its not even funny.
>simple controls

>deep mechanical depth while still being simple

Every other title trying to do top-down/isometric shooters over complicate the fuck out of everything. Atleast Infantry is on Steam now, dont have to suffer hordes of chinese motherfuckers to get my fix. Foxhole can die now.
