That is WW2 movies/games can have such a continuous appeal despite the outcome of WW2 being known. The point of a story is a story, not just the ending. The ending is only a part, and arguably not even the most important part. Many stories are still enjoyed in spite of a shitty ending like Mass Effect or Evangelion. Products that don't even have a true ending can and are enjoyed regularly, like Broken Blade. My favorite book, the count of monte cristo, tells you what is going to happen at the beginning. Dantes will have revenge. The gem of the book is watching him have his revenge. Dantes Inferno, another example, contains no real ending of any kind. Rather it is a series of connected observations on life and faith connected by a loose narrative.

This is just a fact. The only thing you show arguing only the ending matters is that you have immensely shitty tastes.
