At least yo are painting. I've been in a painting slump. I recently acquired a Circle army and I can't decide on a color scheme. I like the default for the most part, but it feels like it's lacking something and I haven't been able to really come up with a design I feel good about in my mind.

Soulward is amazing, Willbreaker is great, PGMT is one of the best combat solos in the game for it's cost.

The Swordsmen UA is amazing, the Vorkesh is absolute tits and the Venerator UA adds a shitload to the unit.

As far as weapon crews go, the Catapult is better than most people give it credit for, and the Flayer cannon can do quite a bit of work with casters like Hexy2 or Rasheth.

An old trick for people painting wood elves armies was to just pick a season, and then steal all those colors. They're supposed to blend in to the woods, so just figure out what woods you're talking about and paint it like that. I think the idea holds up for Circle.

>> No.55951286

>puppet master recked you
>It hasn't in recent memory, but it's a fantastic spell
I feel like it's not as strong in mk3, but I can't pinpoint exactly why. I have a suspicion that the devs working to remove "negative play experiences" had an unintended side effect of reducing the number of make-or-break dice rolls in an average game. And the value of a single reroll is proportional to the importance of the roll it's used on. But that's just a hypothesis.

>> No.55951302

>60% if generous
Does "generous" in this context mean it's probably more or less than 60% deadness?

Are you a bucket-of-scrapped-minis half-full or half-empty guy?

>> No.55951453

>I feel like it's not as strong in mk3, but I can't pinpoint exactly why
Because it was explicitly nerfed you tard. In Mk2 you could reroll more shit, and could reroll any number of the dice. Need an 8 and you got a 6+1? Pick up the 1 and reroll that. Now in Mk3 you can only reroll attack and damage rolls, and you have to do the whole thing. On top of that it lost ancillery attack. But now it can give out tough! Oh wait they nerfed tough too.

Sure, but half of the time the main reason I bring it is because too much shit in Skorne has fuckawful attack rolls and he can compensate with Puppet Master. It's very rare for tough to achieve anything meaningful in Mk3 outside of Doublecats.
Thresher and Sprint are Skornegy, friend. If your opponent's infantry is RNG2 she will die like a bitch. If I could use Strider Deathstalkers I wouldn't even think twice about a PGMT. Her problem is she's just too fucking slow for Sprint to actually do anything. And don't get me started on how anatomical precision is a worse version of snipe.
>Void Spirit
Overcosted Feralgeist. Don't even bother mentioning Mordikaar. Not even he should be fielding them; only making them off Despoiler. It's just too reliant on your opponent having living models that don't have tough.
>Mist Speaker v Soulward
The only reason you'd use the Mist Speaker is theme restrictions because sometimes a Soulward is a 3 point POW18 boostable gun with ghost shot.

I'd rather bring a cyclops than half of these shits desu.

>> No.55952180

> It's very rare for tough to achieve anything meaningful in Mk3 outside of Doublecats.

It's rare for Kovnik Grigorovich to achieve anything outside of 9xRocketeers. Does that make him a bad solo?

>> No.55952200

We're still developing. Obviously there are the WTC lists and you can never go wrong with blindly copying Dominik's lists.

While I am far from WTC level I'll gladly share my thoughts. I'm currently interested in MoW, especially with Zaadesh2 and Rasheth. Both of them should play well with Cetrati and a single unit of cats. I've been playing a lot of MakCats before MoW, but I want to see what else can be done with the theme.

After a few games with those lists and the usual double turtle list, I'll take a look at Exhalted (3* Immortals) with Zaadesh2 and Jalaam. I've played a lot of the former with beasts and I'm really excited for the latter. Maybe I'll even give Zaal2 a chance.

Another build I want to try is Xerxis2 with 4 Sentries. Don't know when I'll get to that. Painting those will take ages.

DoA could be great with both Morghoul2/Xekaar and all the Brigands or with Naaresh and all the Archidons. But I'm not buying all of those minions.

Aside from that there are some larger tournaments coming up (ClogCon!) and I'll carefully watch what my fellow Skorne players are bringing.

Please get out of this thread. Honestly the only thing dead here is how braindead all you trolls are. I HATE how you can't seem to understand that if you don't want to play the game, NOBODY is forcing you. There is no benefit to shitting up this thread with DED GAEM and THEMEMACHINE. You idiots realize that PP is a game company right? They SELL models! If they just let the game stay the same then what would be the point of making new editions. They are buffing old models because otherwise nobody would buy any models. The fact that themes encourage players to buy models that people did not normally use is a business tactic that ALL game companies use. Even then, if you don't want to buy models for theme lists, and only use old models then go play MK2, nobody is stopping you. PP spends years working on a new edition and you don't want to support them by buying any models? Do you expect them to update the game for the rest of their lives for nothing? How about you idiots leave this thread and go play checkers, you can buy the game once and the rules will never change because they are perfectly balanced. Thats what you wanted right? I would recommend Chess but that would be too hard for troglodytes like you.

Do that shit in the first place if you are honestly set on selling the lot.

Unless you painted at a high professional level - which you didn’t, because we’re on fucking 4chan - a bare model is more marketable than one that that has someone’s personal brand slapped on it already. Whenever I shop for used models I consider any prebuilt bare models based on their physical condition, but prepainted lots all carry the promise of an evening spent hunched over a vat of degreaser with a toothbrush.

Do that work before you put it on the open market so a potential buyer doesn’t even have to consider the possibility of having to strip paint. Don’t come here to bitch about DED GAME just because you’re having trouble hooking someone with the hardest possible sell for wargaming pieces.

That being said I'm actually starting get BACK into the game after a long hiatus and just downsizing my collection and getting rid of extra factions. I want to be able to fit my army in a single bag instead of having a faction complete collection and a couple side factions.

>Mist Speaker in theme

>> No.55965928

I'm not sure if it's entirely the fact that Warmahordes has fallen out of favor a bit, because consider this:
Why would I ever need a second model of a warlock/caster I already own? And for a more Trollbloods specific example, why would I need a second Krielstone?
There's a lot of models that go unsold just because people don't want a second one of it. The store that I go to has FOUR Horgle the Anvils. After your initial buy, who's going to buy a second one? You need a brand new player starting the faction or the game.
Then again that's kinda just part of the wargames market it seems.

>> No.55966036

Yeah, but people buy sell and trade lots all the time when they can get a good deal. Obviously an established player has little to no interest in picking up a lot, but a new player or someone swapping factions or starting a new one or just a player wanting to expand their collections you would think would be interested. But nah.

Who can say? A couple months ago I sold my old Warhammer Fantasy army,a much larger collection than I have for warmachine. I got a buyer literally within minutes of posting the list on a trade site and honestly got nearly double what I would have taken as a minium for the army.

I'm really disappointed. Every good move they make is followed by a terrible. We get CID, which I think is very cool and good for the game, then forums are nuked and press gangers disbanded. Company of Iron is coming out, a sensible expansion and in my estimation a really fun alternate rule set. Then we get Black Anchor Heavy Industries.

As someone who got into the game in the very beginning of Mk2 and too a long break due to the trainwreck release of Mk3 I've been pretty excited to dive back into things, but it seems like at every turn the company is intent on running a great product into the ground.

On top of following right in the footsteps of GW in some of the worst ways this is horribly alienating to all the foreign consumers.

I mean, it's not that, because they aren't alternate models. If you want to play a Dracodile, you have exactly one choice. So what are they doing...

Seems pretty obvious to me. The big models have big costs at every level of production and retail and (should) ideally have corresponding margins. My guess is online retailers undercutting (you frequently see colossals and gargs on sale for < 50% retail) means there's no profit in it. If they sell online only, they can hold the price point and make a profit.

The Black Island thing is probably just an attempt to put positive spin on what would otherwise be a blatant desperation move.

Towards the end of Mk2 our local meta kinda fractured as the group from the city north of us grew larger and become more and more competitive. They stopped making the trip to our stores here. After Mk3 my personal circle all kind of lost interest in the game and roughly 5 or so old grognards were the only people still really playing.

Recently, though, my group is getting out their old models and we even have a couple brand new people to bring into the game. They're having trouble getting armies, though, as forwhatever reason distributors our FLGS order from seem to be out of stock. I'd love for the game to pick up steam again, there was a solid couple of years where it was by leaps and bounds the most popular miniatures game in our area and on any given evening you could just walk into the FLGS and get games.

This is the way of things, though. Games seem to fluctuate. Playerbases rise and fall. We've even seen Infinity explode a few times and die down again and we used to have a dedicated Malifaux group.

Of course our longstanding FLGS finally closed after 11 years or so a few months ago, but strangely within weeks two new stores opened to take its place. The gaming scene here in general has been kinda weird.

To Shake, during the Control Phase after you Leech fury, you can spend a fury on warlocks or be forced on warbeasts to end a single effect, such as Stationary, Knockdown, or Blind. If you do so, the effect ends and you go about your business as usual.

Nice cherry picking anon.

Sea King didn't move because it was over priced as fuck and the shitty meta PP has developed means you NEED Rage...which means either you take a MK or don't bother taking a big base because then you're paying all those points for a Sea King AND still need a a Mauler.

It had zero to do with anything else. If the Mountain King didn't exist and they just released it, it would fly off the shelves. The Sea King was just a shitty model (in terms of the game) when it came out.

Funny thing about that? Retailors can still order GW's webstore exclusives at a discount so that we can profit from selling them. Sure, they're in white boxes so they're terrible shelf pieces, but as special orders, which is all most of these 'Black Anchor' models would be, it works.

Far as I can tell from that insider, that's not how it's going to work with PP since they likely don't have the shipping and distribution to handle that kind of thing.

And it stuck throught he power of persistent shitposting.

No one forces retail stores to have a massive stock of PP items. If they have a bunch of expensive models stuck on the shelves they either have no clue on how to stock their store or can afford to have a large inventory. As someone who used to work in a hobby store, you fully expected the majority of your board game and miniature stock to sit on the shelf for years if it didn't sell in the first couple weeks of release.

most smaller stores make their money off special orders so BAHI is a big fuck you to them considering huge bases are an easy way to make money off of hyped players. this move is literally only good for PP.

Players increased here. Our group was mostly 40k-orientated a year ago, with myself and a couple of others playing Warmachine as a side game. When 8th edition dropped, it really split the local player base down the middle, and a lot of the dissatisfied people jumped to Warmachine instead. So we went from three occasional to seven constant players, and frankly, the game is far better than anything GW have ever put out.

Sure, PP have been bungling things a lot, but after dealing with GW's shit for over a decade there isn't much they can do to surprise me. So long as the game is fun and reasonably balanced - and IMO it is - I'll keep playing and supporting them.

Question for you guys:

Most guys in my local meta are very clean players. They give you the full picture any time you ask a question. Say "What's this model do?" and they'll summarize all of his abilities and if requested they'll hand you the card/their phone so you can look and read it yourself. They're always clear on intentions, always make sure you're aware of special abilities if it seems you might have forgotten something.
For example, I was watching a game yesterday, Cryx vs Grymkin. Grymkin guy was moving a unit of Hollowmen up the side of the table trying to flank and the Cryx guy stops him to remind him that he still had a unit of Mechanithralls in ambush. Grymkin guy thanks him, positions a little bit differently, and game continues on.

There's also another guy though who just seems to rely on surprises and his opponents making mistake. If you ask him a question about something, he'll give answers specifically on what you asked and nothing else.
For example I watched him play a game yesterday. He was also running Cryx and playing against a newer guy running Menoth. Menoth guy asks him about the wraith and he says "He's a solo with 2 guns that can reload by spending soul tokens." and that's it.
Little while into their game, Menoth guy positions Kreoss behind a forest, clearly trying to keep him out of LoS of the shooting, but Cryx guy uses ghost shot and gets a pretty good amount of damage on him. Menoth guy says "You didn't tell me he could do that" and Cryx guy responds "You didn't ask."

He's not shitty about it and he's not cheating or anything, he's just not a clean player. Is he being an asshole, or have my expectations just been set too high?

Anybody spouting the "no conversions allowed in WMH" meme or its variants either doesn't actually play (and suffers with debilitating reading comprehension problems), or at the very least has not played in many years.

The conversion rules in the packet exist for three reasons:
(1) To give the TO some guidelines for judging any conversions submitted.
(2) To give the TO a leg to stand on when he needs to deny a conversion.
(3) To give players an idea what to expect from the above.

Look at it from our perspective. We just want to run an event. We want it to go smooth, and to not have to adjudicate some ridiculous dispute that arose because it's impossible to tell what your models are supposed to be. Beyond that, why would I care? As with most things, the rules aren't there for the reasonable people, they're there for the egregious guys who take it too far. And like the rest of the game documents, they're written to be as bulletproof to rules-lawyering as possible. Just don't be THAT guy.

Oh horse shit. The conversion rules in Warmachine are incredibly restrictive, more than most any other game (IE 40k).

You go to Adepticon and look at the 40k armies on parade there. They're gorgeous, creative and are just pure eye candy to look at.

99.9% of conversions (Of what little there are) in the Warmachine room are just reposes.

Now you can claim Warmachine has a clearer rule set than most games. That's the one thing Warmachine does have that I wouldn't argue with too much.

But modeling? Conversions? Model quality and creative design? Nah anon, their policy sucks there as does their history.

It's been said before and I'll just echo it, Warmachine is a board game. It usually looks pretty ugly at cons when you walk up to tables, with 2d terrain clustered around the middle of the table and a sea of unpainted models.

I’ve seen players told no because pGrim used eGrims chassis in a conversion

I’ve seen players a told no because they used a sword instead of an axe on a dynamic Ghettorix pose.

I’ve seen players told no because there was some necrosis bits mingled into their Cryx.

WM is a board game not a miniatures game.

Look cool.

If they are destined to rot in this theme, they should be renamed to Winter Guard Assault Kommandos. Then they could at least contribute towards free stuff, hand out advance move or be pawned off at the sac shop.

>I’ve seen players told no because pGrim used eGrims chassis in a conversion

Because it's fucking eGrim.

>I’ve seen players a told no because they used a sword instead of an axe on a dynamic Ghettorix pose.

Because that's a fucking stalker.

Both those things get caught by standards that exist so that opponents don't lose games because of expected model misidentifications.

Well, to be specific so that TAs don't have to deal with adjudicating what happens when an event is decided by "Is A, looks like A, but is actually B because I said so" shit.

This is because you have to be clear about what a model is. eGrim is too close to pGrim and could be confusing.

>I’ve seen players a told no because they used a sword instead of an axe on a dynamic Ghettorix pose.

Once again, you have to be clear about what a model is. The big difference between Ghettorix and a Warpwolf stalker is the weapon.

>I’ve seen players told no because there was some necrosis bits mingled into their Cryx.

I'm guessing this is about necron bits? You can't use third party bits on warhammer bits so its the same thing.

>You can't use third party bits on warhammer bits so its the same thing.
You can, at least within reasonable bounds. But how much of that story is true and his much is just more shitposting. So far I'm assuming "some Necron bits" means half a fucking Necron army.

Or he might actually mean necrosis bits. In which case that is totally unacceptable. Bringing bits of decaying flesh to a tournament is just against common decency.

Probably as good as these casters are going to get in thememachine.

>> No.56037891

Feels like at least one of them needs eyeless sight though. Maybe with that minions dude when PP fixes the huge problem minions solos have had since Mk3 release of not actually working for other factions.

>> No.56037989

The game is so dead, even the PP homepage shut down.

Essence Blast can work around the lack of Eyeless Sight. Or you can be super-reckless with Despoiler.
