Anyone else seriously annoyed by the recent lack of loadout options within the new edition. They went through the trouble of separating point costs from a models raw stats and its wargear and weapons. Then turned around and stripped out all the opportunity to equip your dudes with all sorts of fun shit. Why cant primaris sergeants take all kinds of cool gear? Does every Magos Dominus and Datasmith seriously carry the same kit? From each forgeworld? In the whole galaxy? No marines have ever found or used a phosper serpentia? Guardsmen regiments dont use autoguns? Holy heck. The new imp codex stripped out so many options its nuts! Infantry sergeants cant even take lasguns anymore. Does anyone else yearn for a more second edition style of gaming like me?

Suggestions for Wraithlord loadouts? Assume the rest of the list has all roles fulfilled, this is mostly I want to have it due to I love the model, but, I want it somewhat useful in 8th edition. Thinking 2xShuriken Catapults, Ghostglaive, 1-2 Brightlances, then if not 2 Brightlances a Shuriken Cannon to make it nom infantry hilariously. If Brightlance is completely bad what about the Starcannon? Or should it just be quad Shuriken because otherwise it is a waste even if it is meant to be fluffy?

Delightful Agonies can target your vehicles, grab a Terminator Sorcerer to Deep Strike alongside a squad of Combi-plasma Terminators, cast Prescience and Delightful Agonies, ruin a single particular units day.
Also Delightful Agonies is great on a Helbrute with a Plasma Cannon since you can ignore mortal wounds caused by a 1 to hit on 5+.
Slaaneshi Daemon Princes are the biggest melee monsters in the game with Intoxicating Elixir and Diabolic Strength, only time my Daemon Prince didn't rip a big thing down and in half was when a Swarmlord got to hit first because Flawless Perfection and Quicksilver Swiftness are fucking useless and I'm offended that Emperor's Children got that lazy half-assed Slaaneshi Daemon "hit first but not really" rule as our Legion Trait. But other than that you'll be able to rip Storm Talons out of the sky if you take the winged option and with Intoxicating Elixir and Diabolic Strength you'll wound T5 models on a 2+
Also if you aren't taking Noise Marines, which you should, you can at least take Obliterators, not quite Sonic Weaponry but high power Assault weaponry is an acceptable substitute.

GW can't account for every possible variation and they can't just make a "build your own army" codex, where you stat your own dudes, their wargear, etc. to have everything you ever wanted.

I'm sure some Marines has found and used a phosphor serpenta, but they'd be very isolated cases and without the Admech providing him with support to maintain the gun and providing him with ammo, it's just a fancy showpiece. I'm sure some US soldier could have carried some obscure handgun into WW2, but with no ammo and armoury not having spare parts for it, his use of that thing would have been next to nothing. Meanwhile, he'd get much more use out of having an M1911, because that the military had munitions and spare parts for.

It's also about army identity. What good is making Space Marines+ if they're just space marines with two wounds? Primaris have a style separate of regular SM with their tacticool weapons and synthetic muscle sneaking suits. And their unit builds are closer to 30k Legions with combined arms rather than flexible units. Instead of a single squad having bolters, close combat weapons, special weapons and heavy weapons, Primaris have one unit for bolters, one for stabby, one for special weapons, etc.

It's no different from, say, Guard being the only army able to use radios and tell their soldiers what to do, or tau being the only ones with target designators, etc.

>Guardsmen regiments dont use autoguns?

No, because 1) they're PDF pleb tier weapons, and B) lasguns are logistically superior.

>> No.55783779

Nice one, and yes.
It means GW might finally put out plastic Sisters of Battle and some female members of the Inquisition, Eldar (all variants), Tau, and Guard with some head upgrade sprues, and body sprues for eldar. Simplest and easiest to do. They're british not american, so they aren't nearly half as insane.

>> No.55783780

Is the rules for army organization being so lax a bad thing, /40kg/? On paper, a well-balanced detachment like Brigade gives you bonuses in the form of a bunch of CP, but in practice CP just isn't valuable enough to make you constrain yourself in that way. Armies are free to spam as much of one unit as they like with the only real limiter being an HQ tax, which for many factions is the opposite of a downside as cheap and useful HQs are plentiful. If your army doesn't have a Codex this goes double, as there are no unique stratagems to give you a good reason to amass CP.

The detachment system also does little to discourage soup lists. Just by putting subfactions in their own detachments you get all the benefits of running pure lists with none of the drawbacks. Is there a point to Marines or Guard or AdMech having a weakness when you can just run them all together and cover each other's backs, with zero drawbacks?

Should there be more encouragement towards running evenly-spread armies and/or single-faction armies?

How does it feel that your precious Acid Dogs will be forced to worship, revere, and breed for an alien race that doesn't even acknowledge their existence until there's nothing left to consume besides them. Where their whole world will come crashing down on them as they panic once their "angels" start cutting them down, and their once great leader is nothing more than a beast once again in control of the Hive Mind.

Well shit. Genestealer cults are alot more lovecraftian that I thought they were.

A little bit yeah.
The rules currently favour horde armies, Guard have the best way of ignoring the weakness of horde armies, and GW lied about battleshock being a big deal.

Same way you always did, they are T8 for Leman Russ, T7 for anything that uses the Chimera, and T6 for everything else, powerfists and lightning claws work, but, so do power axes. Assault Cannons also do decently due to volume of fire, Stormtalon Gunship should do pretty decently, Twin Lascannons as well off of anything that can carry it. Hell throw down a Land Raider Redeemer with something with lightning claws so you can re-roll shit or assault squad with eviscerators making them wound on 4's, hit on 4's, and the tanks get no saves. Or just bring grave cannons with grav-amps and laugh. Sure you need a 5+ to wound, but, they need a 6+ to save and you do D3 wounds with them. Or just lascannon spam as usual.

Shortest range on a sniper I've ever heard of but that's basically what I use it for.
But then I need to GET the Sorcerer in range.
So it's best to take Jump Pack Sorcerer and some Warp Talons, take Warp Time as my second power and charge the Warp Timed Warp Talons into the character or blob protecting it, or both if I can, not like warpflamed Warp Talons care about Overwatch let alone Disordered Charge Overwatch.
I'd still like the option to at least equip a single cultist with a sniper or some kind of CSM style sniper weapon, for fuck sake we're magic warp monsters we can shoot fire from our eyes and shove a daemon in a tank but we can't take some kind of Warp Sight upgrade that lets us target Characters for 25 points?

Commissar is 31 points bare bones (30 for the model 1 for the required bolt pistol that you take, or boltgun that costs the same). Scouts are 11 points per model, smallest squad is 5, so 55 points before equipment, give them 5 sniper rifles that is 20 points (snipers are 4 points per rifle), so that is 75 points already. Land Speeder Storm is 70 points bare Bones, comes with Cerberus Launcher (5 points) and a heavy bolter (10 points) which is 85 points. Total it is 75+85, so 160 points, 5 guys shooting on 4+'s against the commissar if the vehicle has moved, or 3+'s if it hasn't while the vehicle can pump out some decent damage with the Heavy bolter. Cerberus Launcher is only 18" range, but Heavy D6 S4 AP0 D1 which is okay, but not likely to get used much. Don't need camo cloaks though which cheapens it.

Or you can just go shotguns for drive by's, you save 20 points, but, get 2 shots each and if you sit at 6" away get S5 shots which is hilarious against conscripts or infantry squads. Probably blow away a good chunk of them.

Holy shit, I thought Guard and FW were cancer. Imagine my shock at how cancerous FW Guard players are...

You're paying huge sums of money for unique models while your army gets the best rules and then you throw a little bitch fest because the rules are not 100% in your favour.

This all but confirms that Krieg, Elysian and what else players started it because they had a rules advantage, not because 'they looked cool'. So you not only have FW and Guard you mix in WAAC too. Oh and most of these Krieg fanboys are the type who collect Nazi memorabilia and pretend they aren't racist asshats.

FW, Guard, WAAC and /polfags/. All in one place. I'm sickened.

No one is saying anything about creating unique stats and wargear. But the separation of model points and weapon/ wargear points does lend itself to broader kit loadouts. GW has already done the legwork in accounting for every possible option by making universal weapon point costs. If a boltgun is 1pt in the guard dex and 1pt in the marine dex. Why couldnt it be 1pt in the hands of a skitarii vanguard? You see what I mean? The options should be there for those who wish to put in the effort to make different and customs squads. I have an old guard command squad with two of the vets carrying storm bolters. Why cant I pay the universal storm bolter point cost and equip my command vets with them in 8th?

I understand the concept of army Identity and a desire for different playstyles. But i'm within the belief that is more dirrived from model aesthetics and army special rules. A guardsman with a bolter or radium carbine might not play out as different as you think. Hes still light infantry compaired to other options in lieu of his stats and prolly hits just as hard statisticly as a lasguard under orders. I just variation. In a game that takes place on a glactic scale, variation makes sense. Hell, one of core themes of the imperium is it huge diversity, its supposed to be a chaotic mess.

Would you personally refuse a game if I were to show up with lets say, a guard army that contained chimeras that had autocannon turrets? I paid the universal point cost for the autocannon, would that really be unreasonable?

>> No.55784663

The point limit around here is 1800 for some reason, so I have come up with pic related and need some help. The idea is to try to always get first turn, I will have a total of 5 things to deploy, since I am using the transports, keeping the jump pack captain in reserve, and SftS on the hellblasters and aggressors.

All the other primaris go in the repulsor, and the tac squad + loth go in the razorback.

Techmarine sits back with the hunter/cannon to repair as needed and fend off would be deep strikers. The Hunter is my long range AT for the things too big for the overloaded hellblasters to kill. The thunderfire cannon is there for some light long range fire, but has the gunner which I like.

Loth is there mainly for his 3 denies.

the corruption wasn't on the highlords though, it was the various planetary governors.

Zarakynel is still a melee monster, it does better against blobs of weaker infantry than other monsters though since it's sword deals mortal wounds that spill over on a 4+ but it's d6 damage claws are pretty good anti-armor. Also 3++ against other melee.

>> No.55785562

Yeah, well kinda.

I feel like the big issue with Tau is as a newer race people weren't sure what to latch onto, and somehow got confused and chose the propaganda cheekily put in lore as the actual truth. Like if someone said 'yeah life in the imperium is so great man, you can live for hundreds of years, be a fuckin space marine, serve a loving emperor and fight off the darkness. It's so cool' then you'd say they're retarded and that's only in-lore imperial propaganda that's usually pretty funny.

The problem is the first while they were around only weebs and hipsters played the army, and as the lore is always written from an imperial perspective you never see the full reality of the soviet 1984-ass shit mindwiping and quietly murdering/sterilizing people. Tbh that side of the grimdark coin is awesome, but autism and memes meant people missed it, and GW being GW, just went with what fans wanted.

It's like those hippies that thought Russian propaganda was legit and the soviets had sunshine and peace 24/7, and then lol it sucked.

Get a small brush. One that's about as wide as the eye socket. Paint in a black area where the eye is. Neaten up with fleshtone if needs be, so you have a small oval of black.
Then go over it with white leaving a thin black outline. After that you just have to dot in the pupils and tidy up the edges with fleshtone.
Takes some practice but once you get used to doing it, it's not too bad.

I kinda want to get this mentality out that having just Commissars and Conscripts is "OP". It's not. They're the IG's TEQ. It's fair if they can have one if you bring some termies or a land raider. If they bring multiple Brigade Detachments, then yes that is pretty cheesy.
Also Infantry Squads are shit. They're just expendable meatshields. Having a whole army oriented around them would be incredibly boring. If the common man had the same love that Genestealers then that would be fine.
A "fun" army to play against is something that tries to bring all the neat units into the battle in a combined arms fashion. Not just spamming any one single unit. A good Guard player would know that a detachment of Commissars and Conscripts unit is a cheaper and arguably better source of anti vehicle firepower than the other units.
I'm so tired of hearing non Guard players complain about "muh Commissars or muh Conscript Hordes" They're there in the codex, they have a purpose, just like the FWs.source then any of the titans. Just because you get butthurt at the cheesemongers doesn't mean that the other Guard players have to stop using a particular unit. Quit bitching.

But what about other models with big bases!

Oh I should rephrase that, with clever placement it can be a lot better- I mean to say 20+ inches from the original 9" away point, with that you can quite effectively force your opponent to be some 30" away from your actual deployment zone; and that's in DoW, the longest field! In hammer and anvil or whatever the other ones are, it's quite pheasible to cockblock them almost to the deployment zone. Same with HB's and other low-medium weapons only wounding my guardsmen 4/9th of the time instead of 5/6ths of the time. I hear conscripts are in this edition but personally, I don't want to use them and can't provide an opinion. Conscripts just don't fit in my 'professional' guardsman army theme.

Internal Balancing wise, I'm a bit unsure about what they did to Veterans, Unhappy about not getting some cool characters for the new regiments, and rip-roaring pissed that they still haven't made a Vanquisher that's better against tanks than the Battle Cannon.

I need more battles, and will be going back every weekend until I figure out for sure weather my Veterans are actually garbage or just not optimal.

The problem with vets is how fragile they are. They have a great weapons loadout and a solid accuracy, but with the changes to how range and LOS works in 8th, it's very easy for them to get shot up and eliminated the turn they jump out of their vehicle. You will get one nice salvo off, then die, taking 60 points of doods and something like 60 points of weaponry with them. A fully-outfitted squad is 120+ points, while a fully kitted infantry squad is only 70 or so, yet they are equally easy to destroy.

If you got tanks, the Jury Rig Strategem will supplement a techpriest nicely and as a Guard player you can spare 6 points to use it every turn.

If you have an important unit (tanks or Baneblades), the Take Cover ability boosts your save to a 2+. And as a guard player, you can use it 6 times (again) no problem.

"Fire on my position" is expensive, but Scions can abuse it if they survived the first turn on the board by charging into the center of an enemy army and dieing. Suddenly, if you got 3 or 4 units clustered around him you can grab a number of glorious mortal wounds. Situational, but its not like you have to choose your strategems before battle so just keep it in mind.

Defensive Gunners is one CP and lets your Battle Cannons hit on a 5+ in overwatch. Don't even question the usefulness of this strategem, just do it! With all the Raven Guard and Alpha Legion players out there you've probably been hitting on 5+s up till now anyways.

Crush them: Use on Baneblades. Eat infantry in close combat. Your weapons can fire while IN CC so you have no reason not too. Skip for smaller tanks unless you're desperate for an objective.

Except the moment they think anything other than what they're supposed to think they're blammed or worse. You keep trying to argue this as if the Imperium possesses freedom, when it doesn't, that the Imperial citizen has options and choice in how he lives his life, when he doesn't.

There's really no way for you to win this argument because any charge you level against the Tau the Imperium is equally guilty of, and of course then there's all the other shit that makes the Imperium so fucking terrible. Hive Worlds, the corrupt leaders who engage in total debauchery, the Exterminatus, etc. Personally I'd rather be mind controlled than have my entire planet burned to a crisp. 24'' / Heavy 1d3+2 / S10 / AP -1 / D 1d3 / This weapon fires an additional 1d3 shots if the target unit numbers 5+ models.

So basically, for every 2 wounds a Demolisher does on average to a Russ, the Battle Cannon will do 3 and the Vanquisher will do 5. Meanwhile, for every 2 wounds the Vanquisher does to GEQs, the Battle Cannon will do 3 and the Demolisher will do 5.

The first one goes from "don't be an assholes to other just because you think the Emperor was just a man" to "Kill all Xenos"
The taxes part go from "do your job" to "for fuck sake just don't pull a USSR in your planet and fuck everyone in the proceses"

Also for some reason nuGW has a turbo erection regarding the Imperium being Somalia the norm instead of a first world country being the norm like it was in 3rd

Kind of, SM has a WC8 nova that does it. CSM has a targetted one.

I hesitate to try to get it off w/o tigurius which I don't have.

Okay i have realized that the website i was using might be a bit buggy because if you look at the picture i am only dealing 7 unsaved wounds but dealing 22 damage. Unless i dont understand how damage and wounds work that is.

My chosen deity is Slaanesh.
My patrons will is literally "take things to excess, fuck everything, give me Eldari souls, torment loyalists" I think I can handle all of those things.
Plus they STILL get rewards for doing the will of our deity and more often than not our patrons will aligns with what we want to do anyway.
Slaanesh be like "hey I'll give you dark powers if you murderfuck this whole planet while snorting enough cocaine to explode your heart" then yeah I'll fucking give it my best shot.

>> No.55787292

The Demolisher already fires d6 shots if the unit is over 5 models, it's basically no different from the current incarnation.

And what is the Onager's average damage?

Better to die free than live incapable of freedom. A statist cuck like you wouldn't understand.

>> No.55787513

Cadian infantry squads with a heavy weapon supported by an officer are definitely worth it. Re-roll all hits when standing still and getting an order makes them ideal defensive squads.

Though honestly their heavy weapon squads are much better because of the re-roll all hits. Pop them in cover for 4+ save.

This here is the problem. The Imperium is moving from grimdark to noblebright because all along, they just needed someone with a good head on their shoulders to tell them what's what. The corruption isn't inherent in the system, it's just that everyone but Guilliman is a moron.

>> No.55787651

>'yeah life in the imperium is so great man, you can live for hundreds of years, be a fuckin space marine, serve a loving emperor and fight off the darkness. It's so cool'
This is actually what 90% of Space Marine fans are like though. The lore being written from an Imperial perspective is the opposite of the problem with the Tau.

That's the beauty of Tau haters. One moment they're too good to be true, the other they're actually monsters unlike the enlightened Imperium of Man, depending on what fits the complaints at the moment.

>They have the "moral high ground" according to their propaganda, which a bunch of idiots take as fact.
Gue'vesa have a better quality of life than the overwhelming majority of Imperial citizens. The T'au Empire negotiates before engaging in warfare and accepts and encourages peaceful integration. Talk about propaganda all you like, these are facts.

They are far from good, but they are undeniably better than the Imperium. Fuck, the Imperium being a dystopian shithole is half the point of the setting, but point that out and Imperium fans go nuts.

The Tau are a small backwater empire. They don't have tens of thousands of years of infighting and a colossal amount of territory to cover. Them being able to hold on to their ideals when in their little corner of the galaxy is not inconsistent with the portrayal of the other factions.

They're used because 3ppm for a T3/5+ is a steal and they can tarpit, swarm objectives and redirect fire like a motherfucker. The nerf won't kill them, not even close.

>fucking still? man am i glad i don't play competitive

He's memeing you. Eldar are only good if you run them in Ynnari "Eldar Soup" lists and Tau are shit unless you spam Commanders, with Riptides in particular being fucking trash.

>> No.55788023

Flat out untrue. Castes have set career paths, but there's a ton of variation within. An Earth Caste might be a scientist, an artisan, a manual worker, an engineer, all based on his own merits. Meanwhile an Imperial citizen might get burnt to a crisp because he didn't pray loud enough and his neighbour ratted him out to the Inquisitor.

>> No.55788644

This could actually be kinda fun. I imagine something like "Send in the Next Wave" but even more suicidal as a unique stratagem.

Maybe for the Doctrine, infantry get +1 Toughness against AP0 weaponry? And then Vehicles uniquly get nothing, and instead its -ARTILLERY- that gets the doctrine bonus wherein they do, I don't know, 1 mortal wound whenever they roll a 6 to wound? Eh, that might be too strong.
