It depends on the flicker effects.
If it tracks the commander to another public zone, such as the command zone, it's fine, but if the effect looks for the card in exile, it won't work.

I can't remember if there are any public tracking flicker effects that are "controller to controller," though. I think they're mostly con/own to owner."

So even if you did gain control of their commander, use something like Flickerwisp, and have them send to command zone, they'd then put it back into play under their control as they own said commander.

I want to talk about all the golgari commanders. I'd like to build maybe all of them as separate edh decks. Many of them involve sac mechanics, but I'd like some advice on the other ones as well. So far here are my general ideas:

Sapling of Colfenor - Treefolk Tribal
Mazirek - Insect Tribal
Glissa, the Traitor - Artifacts (infect?)
Nath - Elves Tribal
Ishkanath - Spider Tribal
Gitrog Monster - Landfall? Retrace?
Hapatra - Tokens/Wither/Infect?
Jarad/Meren/Savra - Sac (may only do one of these actually since they may all end up the same)

So my question really is: what can golgari decks do effectively besides sac tech? Would the above work in some way?

I think everything Innistrad and further, and most likely earlier than that, track from exile. In cases with closet, Cloudshift, Ghostly Flicker, etc., the card is tracked only if it goes to exile. So instead of returning to play, which it would in Flickerwisp's case, it just goes to their command zone.

I might be confusing rules, but the minor word alterations really fucks up flicker effects.

>107.1b Most of the time, the _Magic_ game uses only positive numbers and zero. You can't choose a negative number, deal negative damage, gain negative life, and so on. However, it's possible for a game value, such as a creature's power, to be less than zero. If a calculation or comparison needs to use a negative value, it does so. If a calculation that would determine the result of an effect yields a negative number, zero is used instead, unless that effect sets a player's life total to a specific value, doubles a player's life total, sets a creature's power or toughness to a specific value, or otherwise modifies a creature's power or toughness.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/a-neverending-tempest/

I'm actually looking for advice on this. The idea right now is to tutor up an engine like Summonings or Reservoir and then cantrip to fuck and back, with some value spells mixed in to keep up with the board.

Also, bounce is your friend. There's a lot of cheap bounce cantrips that are really strong if rebounded and give you room to breathe if you can't get to your ramp.

107.1b Most of the time, the Magic game uses only positive numbers and zero. You can’t choose a negative number, deal negative damage, gain negative life, and so on. However, it’s possible for a game value, such as a creature’s power, to be less than zero. If a calculation or comparison needs to use a negative value, it does so. If a calculation that would determine the result of an effect yields a negative number, zero is used instead, unless that effect sets a player’s life total to a specific value, doubles a player’s life total, sets a creature’s power or toughness to a specific value, or otherwise modifies a creature’s power or toughness.

you need either a good amount of islands or a ton of mana to get it going, though. it's like 12 mana to get started if you've only got one island out, but the more islands you have the less intensive it is. if all of your lands are part island you can go off with only 4.

I quit standard (and therefore magic completely) at one stage after about 12-18 months of playing every week once I realised how grossly expensive it was to keep buying new cards and good cards, and once I realised no matter how much I was willing to spend, there'll be some fuck out there who spends 8x as much to have a better deck, or if I want to have fun building my own deck I can never play it against other people because so many people just netdeck the best flavour of the month decks and beat me as well. It was expensive and became unfun, so I separated all my uncommons and rares, threw the commons in the garbage.

Later on some friends started playing and introduced me to the format. It's still very much pay 2 win, but people are less inclined to net deck for it and it's a bit more janky and fun (on average). There's still infinite combo players out there whose entire deck is focussed on bringing out 1 infinite combo to win, and I can't see how that's fun for them nor is it largely interactive for me to play against, but that's not as bad as what I experienced in standard.

I'd quit again if I couldn't find a good playgroup for commander, or if wizards expanded the reserved list in any form.

This is just straight up false, standard spending is stupid and not worth it at all, but if you have the latest standard meta deck, him buying 8 of the same deck isn't going to benefit him the slightest.

There is a very high threshold of pay to play in MtG, but it is not pay to win. You can't just throw eight times the money at the format and magically get an advantage.

Do you know who the biggest speculators in MtG are? It's the local game stores. The places you play magic. A large amount of their finances are tied up in magic stock. Removing the reserved list and dropping the prices of the secondary market would drive a huge number of LGS's out of business.

But that's just the most obvious downside, there's also the fact that people LIKE their cards holding their value, so that they can recoup their investments. People like having a goal to work towards. Having everything easily within their grasp cheapens the experience, even if it feels good in the short term.
The collector mentality is a huge reason why MtG is still around today, while other games that reprint like mad have crashed and burned.

I'm also against the reserved list, because swearing to NEVER reprint something is retarded, they should find a balance between supply and demand, but at this point the reserved list has become a crucial part of WotC's trust and accountability.
If they break the reserved list, they have broken the biggest promise they have made towards the community, which means they have broken their consumer trust and are likely to break it again in the future.
At this point, they will cause more damage than good by abolishing the reserved list. The solution is just to forget the reserved cards ever existed, and let the collectors sit on their expensive collectible cardboard

Had they reprinted cards back in the late 90s/early 2000s this problem wouldn't exist but now we're at a point of no return that people refuse to accept.

If they have a hypothetical set called "Reserved Masters" boxes would be beyond the normal person's grasp price wise and only a lucky select few and idiots willing to spend over MSRP would get their hands on them.

full-on storm is pretty hard to do on a budget. you can do a pretty good half-storm though. just swap out a bunch of the creatures with cantrips, throw in some storm spells like mind's desire, aetherflux, and empty the warrens and you're good. oh, and you're also gonna want epic experiment for sure.

Hey my dude it might be a simple case of easing off the accelerator, playing passive and trying to manipulate your group more. If players know you've got a spicy deck theres nothing you can do about 3 players keeping you in check once you start setting up your board, but they still have each other to worry about and you can always bait out wipes by throwing aggro the way of the player most likely to interact with you or wipe the board.
