I always get the feeling that whenever someone takes a knight sub-1850 it's because they're shit at list building and just want to fill up a chunk of space with something big and stompy that they think will make it good.

To add in some daemon summoning to my Death Guard, what if i were to add in a Word bearers CAD consisting of a sorc on palanquin (extra wounds for perils) and two units of cultists? Put sorc in max unit of cultists, use poxwalker hive on them from a DG character (also giving me the option to get cultists to use that on without needing to buy MoN on them which I do if they're part of the DG army).
That'd be legal, right? And not too dirty?
I also really want to play both Word Bearers and Death Guard, but can't really decide between the two, and don't have the time to do two separate armies. But the upcoming additions to DG does sway me in their direction slightly.

I've ordered from both forgeworld and anvil industries and I've found anvil has a better record for less bent and less flash. From forgeworld I ordered a solar auxilia lasrifle section, command squad, and 2 basilisks. THe basilisks were good but the infantry both required some filing and the command squads swords were bent badly. For Anvil I ordered a custom platoon of 40 + 5 man command squad with void armor heads and fatigue shots arms and fatigue legs for these there was flash but it was light and feathery and thus easy to remove and honestly I feel like the quality was higher than the forge world on some pieces. Honestly if your gaming group is alright with 3rd party models I would suggest using anvil industy's plattoon builder http://anvilindustry.co.uk/Regiments-Custom-Squad-Builder/regiments-custom-platoon-builder

I copied the loadout of this https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-JP/Death-Korps-of-Krieg-Infantry-Platoon

Dump the medic pack on the platoon, command squads don't last under fire at all, you have a chimera to keep them alive.
dump a SWS and invest the points into a few heavy weapons for the blob, even if you are running them, six auto cannon shots or 9 heavy bolters will help in overwatch or holding an objective in later turns.

take the other SWS and put him in your Valkyrie, if you have the points, upgrade it to a vendetta.

idk about that combo of vanquisher and executioner, dump the plasma sponsons and make them both executioner with lascannons in the belly.

drop a melta on the chimera vets, you can only shoot 2 out of the hatch. you can give then a heavy flamer as a substitute if guys try to melee you.

idk what that sentinalis doing, dump him and get another squad of blob goons, executioner tank will do his job.

maybe swap your stormies to be both melta guns, if you get two executioner tanks, that's plenty of ap2-3, deep strike meltas will work better than a vanquisher anyway.

I think i managed to keep the cost the same, with the spirit of the list intact. you have to SUPER optimize guard to be competitive.

Would I enjoy playing against Tau?

I don't care that your list has no Riptides. I don't care that it isn't using Optimized Stealth Cadre or any of the really broken formations. Because it's a Tau list, and here's how the game will go.

You will attempt to shoot me off the board as I try to close in with you. I won't get cover saves because Tau. If I make contact with any of your units, I will wipe that unit out. So you'll play keep-away, constantly moving back whilst firing. The game will be decided on whether or not I can make it into melee combat with enough of your units to take them out.

I know the game will go this way because it's the way every game against Tau goes. With every other army in the game, you can reasonably expect to see some variation. Playing against Orks? Could be bikes, gunline, green tide, walker spam. Chaos? Maybe they'll be in your face, maybe psychic spam, maybe FMCs, who knows? For every faction, there are multiple ways to play.

Except Tau.

This is why people don't like facing Tau. Because they're the one army that has only one playstyle, and it happens to be the most boring and frustrating one to play against.

>> No.52561008

>why don't you just run a completely different army comp?
Because I can't take a mayhem pack in a Warband/Murder Talon? Also, the claw allows for a T2 a assault while also providing a 12/12/12 3HP jinking assault flier with objective secured and S6 vector strikes to hide inside.

Yea, that's what I was thinking, too, which is why I went with plasma termicide over melta.

Took my Dread Mob in yesterday for a match against Imperial Fists successors. Opponent had some appalling luck with his reserves roll; had a flyer, 2 squads of assault marines and some Terminators in reserve, and three of them showed up Turn 4. if these guys are successors, maybe fluff it as lost remnants of several lost blood angle relics recoverd in long campaigns, that could be a main motivating force, recovery of relics. that could be something to consider. these guys could be a fleet based crusaude to unit stuff lost in the heresy.

None of the chaos gods have a backup plan or an endgame. It's just mindless destruction, scheming, despair and hedonism for the sake of it. That's the point. If they ever truly won they'd just turn on each other and destroy everything. The current state of the galaxy is the best for them though, since the war and strife is constant but at a controlled pace for the time being.

It's why they let Horus lose to the Emperor. If he would have won they'd have just ended up destroying everything.

>> No.52561995

Assuming there isn't enough new life to be had to date his desire for death, his followers will end up killing eachother, at which point Khorne slowly fades away with no sentiment life left to sustain him.

Chaos Gods aren't known for their forward thinking, generally. Presumably this is avoided by the fact that whenever lots of Khornes followers gather in one place, they kill eachother, and that as the galaxy's population decreases due to slaughter, Khorne's need would be abated somewhat, causing a sort of lull in his demand for blood.

Khorne is probable the most insane of all 4 gods. Mindless destruction for the sake of destruction.

Slaanesh needs living beings to practice hedonism, so MAYBE Slaanesh winning the whole universe could be kinda viable-ish. Not productive at all, and it would collapse on itself after a while. But IMO, not as bad as Khorne.

Tzeentch is a weird one, but his infinite thirst for knowledge could lead to some sort of sustainable civilization in a way. Once again, its not a bright future, as Tzeentch followers are incredibly reckless in their quest for forbidden knowldge, but still better than Khorne.

For what I red, Nurgle and his followers are the least insane of all the 4 gods of chaos. I trust he would be able to manage some kind of balance before obliterating everything. And even if Nurgle wins and everyone is now a walking maggot infested sentient corpse, it's not that bad. At least, everyone aint dead, reduced to cave men or driven to insanity in a quest for absolute knowledge. So yea, Nurgle could be the best of a bad situation, as he and his followers are still quite sane (if some old lore I red is still valid).

They would maybe stop for a brief moment, wondering what's their next move is, and then turn onto each other, until only the strongest remain on a huge pile of corpses.

not very familiar with 7th edition....i played a lot in 5th, and played about a year into 6th edition. I am just now getting back into the game and am curious to hear your take on list building theory.

when constructing lists in 7th edition do MSU style lists better fit the way the objectives are?

I will be building Chaos Warband based decurion so everything in the warband has ObSec.....so does it matter?

I will be running at least 1 squad of terms and 1 squad of bikes, and 2 squads of havoks. Also 1-2 full sized squads of Chaos Spawn...so here is where I stand. Would it be better to run 4 minimum sized squads of CSM in Rhinos....or 2 10 man sqauds of CSM in Rhinos?

I have lists prepared for both styles but not having any actual games under my belt (in the last 4 years) I dont know which one would be better.

I like the survivability of the 10 man squads...but i like the mobility of of the smaller squads able to send them in different directions.

Now THIS is a droppod army I want to fight! no relentless Grav-Dev assaulting pinned troops turn 1 bullshit; just pure raining men!

My only suggestion is to give someone in the droppods a homing beacon or auger array or whatever you space marines use to reduce scatter. That way you can drop pod in an infantry unit turn 1, then have them summon terminator reinforcements the next turn.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Power Sword" bullshit that's going on in 40k right now. Power-Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine power-katana from a magos for 5 STC's and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid ceramite with my power-katana.

Forge World fabricators spend years working on a single power-katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to the galaxy.

Power-Katanas are thrice as sharp as Eldar swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a Ghostglaive can cut through, a power-katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a power-katana could easily bisect a wraight-knight wearing with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why the Eldar never bothered attacking the Shadows of The Emperor? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai-Marines and their power-katanas of destruction. Even in the Siege of Alaitoc, Eldar Banshees targeted the marines with the power-katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Power-Katanas are simply the best power-sword that the galaxy has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in 40k. Here are the stats I propose for Power-Katanas:

Instant Death

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Power-Katanas in 40k, don't you think?

tl;dr = Power-Katanas need to do more damage in 40k, see my new stats.

Does this mean I could take Cawl by himself as an HQ alongside a formation of just Custodes? Or is there something else I need like a couple of basic troops to fill CAD/FOC?

Ex: Cawl and Formation of Custodes(Golden Legion Task FOrce) = Legal?

Ex: Cawl and 2 squads of Skitarii plus the Golden Legion Task Force = Legal?

Ex: Golden Legion Task Force + Allied Detachment of Cawl and one unit of Skitarii = Legal?

welp, that took a turn for the worse
I'd like 6th edition vehicles to return honestly, because right now things like hunter killer missiles lost all value, when in 6th they were actually a frightening prospect if you loaded up on enough for an alpha strike
not enough anti tank imo
chaos lord with melta in a plas squad is a waste, give him combi plas like the rest
msu is fine for the csm, but you need at least one squad of lascannon havocs.
maybe split spawn up into 2 squads of 2 and use remaining points to take lashavocs, get rid of the melta/plas on the csm squads if you want to keep your spawn or need more points.
this list is mch toastier imo
only thing is running a biker lord with no bikes is something that I personally don't like (it just annoys me having one guy like that on a bike without a squad, he dies easily)
Idk about psychic powers (I play tau/d-99/alpha legion) but i heard tzeeentch daemons are op and that daemon prince of nurgle is really good with dg.

>> No.52564806

well for a "one trick pony" tau actually have different playstyles, I think what pisses off most people is the parking lot/gunline tactic which is effectively playing attack/defence where the tau player sits back spewing dakka while his opponent charges him and dies since no one outdakkas tau bar some parking lot guard lists.
Other lists that are unfun are riptide spam and jsj spam where the guy jumps out of cover, dakka everywhere, then jumps back and hides from return fire and moves back into supporting fire range if someone gets close, since supporting fire is an op rule sometimes. This is mitigates by certain playstyles like close quarters tau which use fusion suits deep striking and breacher/pathfinder teams in devilfish with one or two heavy hitters at the back for support if needed. alternatively running a crisis bomb is hilarious since you can deep strike up to 10 suits (with commander) and up to 20 drones with them for shits and giggles for the best deathstar in the game that just spews out either flamers to remove hordes, plasma for teqs or melta to make vehicles cry, or mix it up with target locks to fuck everyone up. But most tau players are annoying weabs/neckbeards who ruin not cancer tau players reputation. For some tau players, the allure was a combines arms army that isn't guard, since guard are a bit archaic and personally fell in love with my sky ray gunship.
idk what you can run on knights for skyfire, though there was some gun with like heavy 12 or something (avenger gatling?), run those but then you ruin any ranged heavy dakka you might have, honestly, at those points them land raiders are dead and that infantry doesn't look very dakka so you might want to consider allying in someone for ranged weapons since 7th is still a shooting edition, though with 8th round the corner idk, maybe a hellrain detachment from scions or another knight (cerastus knight atropos from a recaster), but idk

>> No.52564839

Yeah, I would.

I see a lot of lists that look pretty similar to this at my local shop when I play, so I'd bring out my Imperial Fists army and deepstrike away.

Playing against Tau is kind of boring though, they really have the one tactic, which is shoot and play keep-away. Because if I can get my guys into melee range, it's over for you, and we both know it. So your entire battle-plan revolves around making tight firing squads to whittle down my guys before they can get close enough to assault, while mine revolves around getting close enough for melee.

Drop-pods for my centurions and scout bikes are key to defeating your list, along with a couple razorbacks to move my sternguard veterans around and provide las-plas spam to play hell with your riptides.

I know it's kind of masochistic, but I really like playing my fluff-heavy lists against flavor-of-the-month Tau lists. Even when I lose, it's still a lot of fun.

They're good for anti-armor because their mere presence forces your opponent to be very cautious on how they move their tanks. Half their value is in psyching out your opponent, convincing them they will lose their 800 points worth of tanks to my ghetto tank-busters.

More than once, I've had a dense city-scape that I threw a couple anti-armor scout squads into as tank-traps, to funnel their armor along an edge of the map so they minimized their armor exposure. They ended up keeping their tanks butted up against the side of the table and realistically not accomplishing anything for the match.

This tactic only works against Tau and SM's. Any IG force worth a pile of grox-shit will plow forward and drown your scout squad in straight firepower, then consolidate to deal with the more heavily-armored enemies.

Now that he's back, had a 'chat' with his father, and has taken control of the High Lords of Terra, what is the Imperium of Man going to be like after he runs it for awhile?

>> No.52565447

I did some research, Grand Convocation looks a little weak. Like an afterthought that wasn't really proof read in a bad way as to where War Convo wasn't proof read in a "good" way for the Cult player. It's definitely more flexible in what you can take, another reason I don't like the War Convo but IWND and POTMS on the onagers isn't worth it. Knights already split fire anyway

>> No.52565458

Think of it this way. A Rhino door is 2 inches from the front, right? If he drives it straight towards a tank that the front is 18 inches away from, it'll move 6, then the girls move 2 to match the front, then 4 past that, leaving them 8 inches away from the tank.

If he finishes it with a turn instead, they don't 'waste' the extra 2 inches, meaning they're right at the 6" mark

Guilliman kills the Imperial Cult and tries to kill the Machine Cult via establishing a far more forced version the 'Imperial Truth'. Then the Adeptus Mechanicus proceeds to not take any of that shit and swiftly starts and wins the civil war. The result: Everyone now properly venerates the Omnissiah.

>> No.52565669

There is no way the Mechanicus would win a civil war. A civil war would ruin both sides totally, probably with the Imperium "Winning" in the end but then being fucked since they have no one to make more guns and ammo and proceed to get buttfucked by all the other bad guys.

Depends on your locale.

I'm in the midwest, grew up in a town of 20k and now live in a town of 6k with a small college.

The town of 20k had basically nothing for nerd shit. A small MTG community and that was it.

The town of 6k has a very small gaming community, and only like 5 40k players with all of them being college students. So it's not exactly a stable community.

I drive an hour, one-way, to a town of ~200k to play. There's about a dozen that play at a store there.

Tabletop gaming in redneck populated areas is a nightmare. All most people want to do is drink natty light and fuck their siblings around here. I just want to drink decent beer and play with my plastic dolls.

>> No.52565850

Where would the rest of humanity be without access to to vitally needed technology (guns, ammo, spaceships, and life support being but small examples)? You also forget that the Tech-Priests keep the best to themselves, especially Ordo Redactor (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ordo_Reductor). Finally, they could offer to welcome in the survivors of the Imperial Cult to form into a new unified faith--kinda like what more-or-less happened with the Orthodox and the Catholics.

Guilliman won't allow that but Cawl goes full Hal-9000 with "can't let you do that, Bobby" and turns off Guillimans armor with some plot device. Shit happens, Guilliman is pissed and betrayed and eventually is rescued from the Emperors palace by Captain Titus. They go back to Ultramar and Guilliman begins to construct his own Empire in the memory of his Father. With rising forces of Sautek dynasty and encroaching hive fleets the new empire of Ultramar finds itself allied with tau empire. Questionable. Techmarines worship the Omnissiah, and in chapters where secrets are kept, notably the Dark Angels, Techmarines are barred from any form of brotherhood that would cause them to learn anything of the chapter's secrets. Because the AdMech founded them in secret to do their bidding and got found out at the worst time, the age of Apostacy with Vandire doing all his stuff and the AdMech's own little civil war with the Ecclisiarchy. Like, we can't just have this chapter of marines that go around in our neighborhood without following our rules while everyone else isn't following the rules, we have to have some order, man. So we're gonna bring all of our marines and tell them to follow the rules or else. And being that this happened near/during the Age of Apostacy, the AdMech were all like "alright chill dudes i don't want to start another war when i can just go back to farming electro grox for my meat and electricity factory bruh. Look, you guys are part of their gang now but we still like you. Also you gotta be a part of our church too. What do you mean you believe in the emperor, the omnissiah, and that ferrus manus dude as a holy trinity? I mean, I guess you still worship the omnissiah, so it's okay maybe. Just don't start a holy war right now."
