British vehicles in North Africa were painted pink because it's almost impossible to see a pink vehicle in the desert light.

So keep in mind how hilarious it would have been to see 4 SAS badasses jumping dunes in a land rover painted light pink while shooting up a german air field with a bolted on machine gun, using a strategy that replaced every instance of the words "tactical" and "covert" with "BALLS OUT".

Jokes aside, I really do hope that if GW makes a new Battlefleet Gothic boardgame that there is a bit more variety in ship designs. While I do love the cathedral look, Imperial ships just feel like bigger versions of the same thing. At least aesthetically.

Basically what I'm saying is that I'd like them to expand on the space combat stuff. Mainly so that there is material to work with and then they could make a Sins of a Solar Empire type of videogame adaptation. Because I've been wanting something like that for fucking ever.

Also, xenos or not, Demiurg have some great ship designs.

>Hell even if a hands off approach is necessary there's more depth and enjoyment to be hand in Stellaris or even Gratuitous Space Battles.
I just got Stellaris so I might be missing something, but to me it feels the combat is even more hands-off than ES. In ES the fighting was completely automated but you could choose different special action to be taken at each of the three phases, which could affect the outcome. In Stellaris, to me it seems the standard battle is you setting your fleet to attack the enemy, then watching the bars that represent relative strength of the fleets move.

It's not all that visually impressive either: the biggest, most important battle I've had, which decided the outcome of a major war and permanently broke the military power of my main enemy (Their fleet was individually superior to mine or any of my allies, but I managed to catch them while they were fighting the biggest fleet of my ally and threw every ship I had into the battle) consisted of several blobs of ships floating in place right next to each other and shooting at each other untill one side was dead.

>> No.50941865

The recurring feeling I have with Stellaris is that it could have been great if they added everything they wanted to.

>> No.50941985

Pre-battle maneuvering and lining upp different 'waves' of fleets allow you to do everything from drawing off the enemy fighter screen into a brawl with PD cruisers to dropping in anti cap destroyers behind the enemy flagship etc.

So yeah, sure, you cant tell your fleet to do anything once engaged, but you have a lot of options and depth in how, when and from what angles you engage with what.

>> No.50942843

The problem is, every one of those things you named requires you to fight the game engine to accomplish it.

Here I go, getting my flanking destroyers into posi - oh nevermind, one of them caught the edge of the enemy fleet's engagement radius.

>> No.50943436

Giving orders to separate units while the fights starting is fighting the engine?

Most efficient way to do it is to drop them into the system from different routs which puts more weight on strategic positioning and doesnt require micromanaging in system. And sending separate waves does not require fighting anything but your own patience. Granted you can send more waves the next turn in ES too, but then its a seperate fight. You cant for example drop in and engage with a brawler fleet then drop a sniper fleet after to keep them out.

Either case it's still miles better than a shitty 'deathblob auto-resolve but it takes more time', and many of the effects could be mimicked by putting in a battle planing stage with things like formation and target priority. Its not like they couldnt pull something better off either, i mean look at Endless Legend.

It would be nice if there was a way to order fleets to disengage without having to use emergency FTL.

Like, they would attempt to pull back to starport/friendly fleet with the highest strength, or edge of the system farthest away from the enemy if none exists. If the ships are fast enough, or the enemy also decides to disengage (The AI would decide based on tactical prudence, and their position on the pacifist/militarist axis) , or your ships are fast enough, combat ends, and you can then regroup or safely use FTL without damaging your ships.

Combine this with some other simple tactics (charge, maintain range, ect) and it might actually feel like you have some degree of control. I mean right now AI behaviors are hard-coded into ship type. What the fuck.

You mean like this?

>> No.50950603

well that is certainly a battlefleet of zeplins but i meant zeplins done up in the imperial style like the picture i posted

>> No.50950781

Looking at this I realized You could totally do this aesthetic by relocating the thrusters to the side of the ship and putting the bridge on the underside.

>> No.50950857

i think its main problem is the standard imperial bow does not really work on a zeplin

>> No.50950874

Use a nonstandard Imperial Bow then.

The general shapes are early Art Deco meets Byzantine, with Gothic styled fine detailing.

My architectural waifu.

Its from a quest on /mlp/ not auctualy a 40k quest but it does take a lot of visual inspiration from it. (Also it has a dreadnaught (and at a stretch a blank))

Speaking of dreadnaughts and horses it saddens me that the best image of a dreadnaught in combat (the dread ripping apart the pony) cannot be posted

>> No.50952700

Aye, which quest was that, haven't been in the mlp cyoa scene since RGS.

I mean, or you could just build 6-mid cruisers, fill 5 with Gauss/Plasma/Little Doctors, and the last with a Flak battery, and field hordes of these ships, and basically win.

Stellaris combat is a laggy snorefest.

>> No.50953947

Too bad the game took years to come out. And once it finally did it was to a lackluster reception and production line difficulties. That made the whole thing fold.

It's sad, but the box set is a glorious thing to own. It's clearly a labour of love... and a complete nightmare from a logistics and profitability point of view.

Because when viewed through a periscope on even the lowest of sea-states, it becomes a difficult affair to calculate Angle on Bow as it is one of the most important elements of data gathered for input into a manual firing solution, or even into a firing computer.

more built on it like a wasp hive. the bulk was probably not worth mining. It was built in a hurry while running from an interstellar apocalypse.

Basically a Vasari ship if they had less time to start running, and were less high tech.

Season 1 of knight of sidonia is worth watching. I liked season 2, but that was because I could forgive it becoming a harem anime with a bio-mech as one of the girls.

It takes that long? All the warning signs were there as of ep 2, so I hadn't bothered to watch further. Am I missing anything worthwhile, or did the show jump the shark at the premise?

It was pretty set on what's-her-face with the black hair (Not the one who was neither gender) until she dies. THEN it becomes harem.

But all is forgiven, because Tsumugi is best girl.

You dumb fucks. It's pretty much blatant text that whatsherface with the black hair is OTP no matter who she is. The futa pines hard but protag only sees her as a bro.

I bet you shits didn't even read the manga.

I signed up to see some speculative fiction about the last remnants of humanity caught in a life or death struggle for survival surrounded by hostiles in the vast depths of space.

I do not give a tenth of a shit who those remnants choose to fuck.

There's this whole genre of bait-and-switch anime with fantastic premises, but the actual content is sophomoric drama bullshit and dere shenanigans that should have been set in fucking Shojo High School so the rest of us would know to steer clear.

>> No.50959082

Does the anime faithfully follow the manga?

>> No.50959145

You get like 10 frames per minute of reading, yes.

>> No.50959967

As I said, season one does actually play with the premise. You should watch that if nothing else.

I could pull together a viewing schedual of season 2 that was just mech stuff and the ship doing things. Would be like 2 episodes worth.
