You have the notion that one part of the kit has a working blade for the short sword. IT DOES NOT. It has a bunch of junk that can take the shape of a shortsword thus why it has the broken condition cause it is a bunch of junk put together.

>Has your party ever encountered an undead creature in the ruling class?

I once wanted to do a setting where a city was openly ruled by undead and primarily exported magical items. They had a council/college of liches that in order to get on the ruling council they had to serve as teachers at local colleges - absences from the council weren't uncommon and usually only seven liches were active at a time, breaks from lawmaking were usually around 10 years.

There was also a sizeable contingent of vampires, who often worked as part of the clergy. Many were also socialites. They had to find interesting means of procuring their "food" because the nation was non-descriminatory and often functioned in beneficial manners to living neighbors (many of whom often travelled the kingdoms; paid blood collection services weren't uncommon). Mummies were unfortunately not present because they tended to exist as the form of undeath for more 'good' aligned nations.

There was a Wight who operated as head of military, he was one of the most hateful bastards around, but you could get the finest military education from him imaginable. He especially detested gnoll mercenaries (they had no problems eating the undead).

The nation was net lawful neutral, living races were quite common in it and weren't discriminated against. They long stopped warring against their more zealously good neighbors, because they'd both decided it was mostly futile.

if its not suspicious, nothing stops you from having clothes which just have such things
if it is suspicious it needs a hidden weapons check.
if its not suspicious and can make a short sword, then the only part of a short sword, that defines a short sword, which is the blade, is ok to bring wherever you want this brought in. in which case youre better off just bringing the blade in.
if it is suspicious and needs a hidden weapons check, just hide a short sword. it will be better, can be magical and doesnt need assembly.

>if its not suspicious, nothing stops you from having clothes which just have such things

Aside from regular clothes not having rules that say "this can be made into a weapon".

>if it is suspicious it needs a hidden weapons check.

Nope. It might need sense motive, but it doesn't need sleight of hand vs perception (aka the 'hidden weapons check).

>if its not suspicious and can make a short sword, then the only part of a short sword, that defines a short sword, which is the blade, is ok to bring wherever you want this brought in. in which case youre better off just bringing the blade in.

This is a false dilemma. your "either or" situation, in which you account for no other possible circumstances. This argument is wrong and you've repeated it about 40 times already, you need to drop it.

>if it is suspicious and needs a hidden weapons check, just hide a short sword. it will be better, can be magical and doesnt need assembly.

This builds off of one of your previous fallacies and is wrong.

>you are american

Nope. Not an american, good try though. Not sure how you planned on making it relevant to the issue, because it isnt, but hey, gotta try for those low hanging fruit over which to create baseless ad hominem.

>you probably think youre doing well in your debate team or whatever when you are probably debating scared teenagers that just fall apart when you start talking with you "fancy terms" which clearly you dont even understand.

These 'fancy terms' are indicative of critical shortcomings in argumentation and thought on your part. They dramatically undermine your position to extents that it makes your position worthless.

You just don't like being called on your shit because it highlights how fucking wrong you are.

your ruling of this being sewn into clothes and causing no suspicious means any clothes can have this.
>Nope. It might need sense motive, but it doesn't need sleight of hand vs perception (aka the 'hidden weapons check).
sense motive and sleight of hand are very different. but in any case if youre going through an area where weapons are forbidden you go thrgough a sleigh of hand check. or whatever the check is. in any case you go through a check where people examine what you bring in. if the bag passes it without a check it means it has nothing suspicious in it. if it has nothing suspicious in it, the items that are used to make a weapon can be brought outside of the kit without a check.
>This is a false dilemma. your "either or" situation, in which you account for no other possible circumstances. This argument is wrong and you've repeated it about 40 times already, you need to drop it.
a false dilemma isnt just a situation in which 2 things contradict each other. a false dilemma is a situation in which less than all of the available options are presented. either you can bring in the blade of the short sword without a check or you need a check to bring it in. in which case just getting the short sword hidden in you is a lot better.
>This builds off of one of your previous fallacies and is wrong.
same as before

you dont even identify fallacies properly. there are no fallacies in my reasoning, but your logic is incomplete. you dont dub things which represent to mutually exclusive options as a false dilemma fallacy. this means you just cant identify situations in which things are mutually exclusive.

1) it has been explained to you that this isn't a bag, several times before fuckbrain. You continually fall back to that shit when it is *WRONG*.

2) In your incredibly contrived scenario, a character might undergo a perception check sure - but they wouldn't ping for any weapons. and guards aren't going to have the time to take a 20 on a check without protest, so unless you're being perception checked by something like a god, no one is going to go 'OMG THAT CAN BE MADE INTO A WEAPON'. You are making a number of extreme assumptions about what is contained within the item set along the lines of "HURF DURF IT CONTAINS A SWORD BLADE".

3) You are creating YET ANOTHER false dichotomy.

>a false dilemma isnt just a situation in which 2 things contradict each other. a false dilemma is a situation in which less than all of the available options are presented. either you can bring in the blade of the short sword without a check or you need a check to bring it in. in which case just getting the short sword hidden in you is a lot better.

You clearly didn't read that link on what a false dilemma is did you.

You are stating that "THIS CAN ONLY BE THIS THING OR THAT THING" when that is in no way the case. You are doing it again right here.

Like, you know how the first three sessions are the most important sessions to emphasize character quirks and personality? You are saying the ONLY options are A or B.

That isn't true. There is also option C, and D, and E. You are trying to demand that people pick from A or B in regards to what is "true" when responding to you, when the truth is not a or b, it is something else.

You keep on trying to introduce tangents and things that are absolutely fucking wrong as a means of supporting your point, and you demand that people respond to them as though they were correct (aka NOPE THIS THING THAT IS DESCRIBED AS CLOTHES ABSOLUTELY CANT BE CLOTHES, IT HAS TO BE A 10LB BAG OF SCRAP THAT YOU LUG AROUND; which is completely 100% incorrect). I am not responding to your 'points' or tangents because they are wrong, I don't have to disprove something that is wrong.

It has been demonstrated many times to you how this shit works, and you still go "NOPE I DONT LIKE THAT SO ITS NOT RIGHT" (fallacy of personal incredulity, you dont like it or find it hard to believe so you declare it incorrect, despite its correctness).

it doesnt matter if the text is in red(C), in Latin (D), written in shit (E) or whatever. still A and B are mutually exclusive.
what youre having here is linking things which have no connection. as ive said so many times before, this kit is useless. depending how you run your campaign it is useless in different ways, but there is no way in which to run a campaign with this item working, apart from a fiat rules (which contradicts other rules) that this item works.

Actually I'm not the anon you've been arguing with, nor is this my attempt to create a "retarded conundrum". What I'm doing is trying to get a clear answer as to what this kit contains.

I hope you're not the guy who posted that argument flowchart from earlier, because if you are then it'd be really fucking embarrassing for you to not be following your own rules. Right now all I'm doing is asking you to define your terms.

So - does the kit contain sharpened metal items, or does it not contain them? This isn't a false dichotomy because the quality "contains sharpened metal items" is a binary one; it is either true or false. The kit might contain a host of other things, but right now all I'm asking is does it contain sharpened metal things?

Idk if this is the right place to ask this question even more so since it's a 3.5 question, BUT, in that other That Guy thread I posted a story the other night. I got a couple responses regarding what can and can't be done as per rules which has lead me to ask:

1. Can any level of Sense Motive, Intimidate, Diplomacy, or Bluff be used for PCs as well as NPCs? The rules clearly state that the usage of these allows for temporary effects and that they can't actually change the character they are used on. Most DMs as far as I can research allow these to some extent that doesn't involve abusing them.

2. If a character starts off in a good alignment, they through various events in a campaign does more evil things, is it okay for GM to change their alignment?

If my party gets chased by skeletons I can turn it into a morning star given a minute of time. It's a shitty morning star but any port in a storm.

>>1. Can any level of Sense Motive, Intimidate, Diplomacy, or Bluff be used for PCs as well as NPCs?

There's no way for the DM to enforce that, because the DM doesn't actually know if/when/why a player is lying, being deceptive, or manipulative. The best a DM can do is say "Hey <PC in question>, are you lying?"

Two players could roleplay that out between themselves, but if the person on either end intends to be antagonistic or not cooperate, it breaks down.

So, no, not really.

>is it okay for GM to change their alignment?
Yes. Alignment is a measure of what you do, how you do it, and why.

If you say "I'm Lawful Good", and then you encourage/take part in theft, murder, deception, or consorting with evil people and entities for personal gain, the DM has every right to say "You claim to be LG, but your actions are clearly not. Bluff can work on PCs, but even if successful they may only believe it for one round. After that they're back to themselves. They just believed that you were so sure of yourself that they had second thoughts.

Diplomacy can't be used to change the thoughts of Player Characters

Intimidate works to change the characters rating (Hostile, dubious, friendly, helpful) but players don't use that so it doesn't really work on them for that option.

Sense motive just lets you get a sense if they believe you believe what you're saying.

If the kit contains sharpened metal bits that are not themselves weapons, then I don't see a problem in its casual use, and I'd agree that -2 to attack and damage is reasonable. The only possible issue I can see is that if someone were doing an exhaustive search of the character, they might find the sharpened metal items, and if the person doing the search had reason to be suspicious the character might have to Bluff a convincing reason for why sharp metal items are part of that item of clothing. D&D 3.5 says that between PC's there are no social skills. so there is no bluff, diplomacy, sense motive, intimidation and such... you can only use those if NPC's are involved and to the NPC's only or from the NPC's where applicable. though pretty much in any campaign it is quite clear those rules are incomplete and they dont do for a good storytelling campaign. so if youre doing more than dungeon crawling - house rules all the way.
as for the 2nd question - yes it is ok for the GM to change their alignment, and it is VEEEERY subjective. if youre using alignments its pretty much a neverending conversation about whats good and whats evil and there will always be disagreements. here, as well as on the above, house rules do best.

We talk about that because the rope has a health, we need to see how much damage the coin has. By relating it to another weapon, we have designated the coin as a improvised tool/weapon.

It would be stupid, but it would be a thing that exists, so no, most people wouldn't contest it. We might not acknowledge it if it was bad 3pp though.

Hey, I was hoping to get some advice, i think I'm pretty good but I'm expecting to level next session and have no idea where to go from here. Pretty much everything is allowed.

I'm playing a half-orc scarred witch doctor, the version before they made it boring, so I cast with my Con, but I still have a +2 to int and a huge chunk of my focus is on my alchemy skill, which is at a +16 before using my custom +4 alchemy set(payed out the ass for it, but I haven't even magiced it yet). My only non-extra hex feat is Create Wondrous Item, and my hexes are cackle, evil eye, fortune and cauldron. I'm at level 5. Is there anywhere I should be aiming for with this character? We're pretty light on magic items, is there anything special I should be looking to make for myself? My first magic items are going to be making my alchemy set give a +2 competence bonus and some gloves of healing, because I consider my skill rolls my most powerful feature right now(I just finished using about 8~ alchemy checks and some party aid to blow up two boats without any combat happening, so there's a reason for that), but what else should I be looking at? Thanks for just reading this, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Sorry, should've been more specific. It's primarily Oracle with a 3 level dip in Antipaladin. boost your con score! I'd suggest polymorph spells, but most aren't on the witch list. If your patron happens to grant Monstrous Physique or Giant Form, you'll want to cast those, as you won't lose your hands and mouth for somatic and verbal spell components. Elemental Body into an Earth or Water elemental works well too. Beast Shape is normally no good for a primary caster, except some Magical Beasts have hands and mouths for spell casting.

You might start thinking about a late game feat like Spell Perfection, and taking things like Spell Focus, Greater Spell Focus, Spell Specialization, Varisian Tattoo, Bloatmage Initiate, in addition to metamagic feats of course. You've got good debuff stuff from Cackle, Evil Eye, Misfortune, so save or die spells are a good choice. Baleful Polymorph, Flesh to Stone are good choices. Wow... you could do some serious shit with that kind of gestalt. The primary caster classes are certainly good, but assuming someone else in the party is doing that stuff, you could make some pretty interesting melee types

So gestalt- take the best saves, hd, bab, skills of each class and all class abilities?

I'd consider something like Monk(Scaled Fist)/Paladin for a charisma focused warrior. You'd have charisma to AC, Attack and Saves. Full Smite and Monk shit. Swashbuckler/Paladin has some combo potential.

Hunter(Feral Shifter)/Monk would get wildshape and monk stuff, all wisdom based. You could go for big forms like Behemoth Hippos or for a dex build with a diminuitive bat. Either way, feral combat focus would let you flurry with natural attacks like a triceratops tail attack or behemoth hippo bite.

Magus/Fighter or Magus/Rogue/Arcane Trickster could be good.

After we finish the currant arc in the weekend game, the party's going to see some changes since another player apparently isn't enjoying their Str-quisitor very much. My GM is using this as an excuse to tell me I'm okay to shuffle some things around for my character, since he'd rather I avoid just bringing in a new one. What exactly I'll be allowed to alter is still up the air, as we're constantly tossing ideas back and forth and I have no idea what the threshold between merely "discussing ideas" and "being an annoying, obsessive piece of garbage" is.

You could pick pretty much any full-BAB class really(except for PoW classes which are all t3, I think), it's only a question of what you want to do with it.
Barbarian or Bloodrager would be good, but you'll want to check if your GM still lets you cast your skald spells regardless of which rage you use. Unchained Barbarian notably gives bonuses that stack with your raging song due to it not boosting Str or Con directly.
Paladin is an obvious choice for good charisma synergy.
Slayer gets you extra skill points and good reflex save. You can also use the bonus feats to pick up Ranger's fighting style, which is why I'm not really recommending ranger unless you want to focus on archery.
Fighter is a surprisingly solid choice for at least a dip in gestalt, because typically if you try to get full benefit from both sides of gestalt, you end up feat-starved to a lesser or greater degree.
Aegis is likewise a good choice for passive class. It's pretty much ability-agnostic and the astral suit offers extra versatility which is pretty important for spontaneous casters.
Soulknife offers cha-based manifesting if you go gifted blade.
Avenger vigilante might be amusing if you're going for a more social/urban game.

I'd avoid marksman - if you want to make an archer, a slayer or ranger would be better choice(although keep in mind that pretty much all full-BAB classes can do archery).
Unchained Monk would give you extra mobility, but Aegis just does that better and unless you want to go unarmed or unarmored, monk doesn't offer you much else. Brawler might be the better choice if you want to punch things dead.
Cavalier and gunslinger both have their shtick, but I don't know if I could recommend either mounted combat or guns as your combat style. And the same goes for swashbuckler - if you go melee, you'll really want to use a two-handed weapon.

That CON should be -4.
The dust SLA is fine since the flight it grants is trash. It's basically a shit levitate that you can steer.
This small a character, with that kind of mobility, might pose an issue, though. I assume it's going to be some kind of Sorcerer or whatever?
He's essentially immune to melee attackers which will make him much harder to deal with. Prepare your encounters accordingly (don't just have dudes with swords in a place with no ceiling for exsmple) and it should be okay.
Don't forget to rectalragnarok him with wind. He's so small he'll get fucked by a literal stiff breeze.

In short I'd allow it in my game but constantly keep him in check with everyone else. A bad GM would essentially treat that race as if it was invincible due to shit encounter design. It's on you to make sure you enforce his weaknesses. Don't be too harsh, though.

You should make it -4. Seeing odd racial stat bonuses and penalties irks me and I won't be able to sleep at night knowing you let someone get a -3 penalty.

Honestly it doesn't look terrible. Keep in mind the bonuses for being Diminutive such as a +4, +4 to hit bonus and a +12 bonus on Stealth, basically immune to melee attacks, etc.

If you standard encounters the character is likely to be able to completely cheese them, so make sure to tailor encounters to account for the player's strengths.

Fairy Dust SLA is more RP and cute. It might occasionally be useful but it's not going to break your game.

Again, as a player, I only have limited knowledge.

But anyways, it takes place in a setting that we've all been playing in for around 2 years now. For the most part, it's somewhat typical fantasy (magic exists) and one country has very early magitek stuff, but a lot of monsters don't exist.

The player in question wanted to port a character from Overwatch and invented an entire country that would allow him to do this. The DM got him to change things that would let it fit in the setting, but when it came to changing the character's story and appearance so it would actually fit, the player started getting bitchy about it.

I want to make a basic continent, maybe with a small minor landmass, but with a scale that makes sense. How big do you usually make your continents? Your countries? I dunno if I should start with something roughly Australia, America, or Asia-sized.

All my players are starting at level 1, but this game is going to have a decent emphasis on travel. At the least, I know I want it to take 30 days of travel by foot to get from one end to the other of the smallest major area to the next.
