Fluff marines? One demi-company, absolute maximum.

Tabletop marines? Two companies. RPG-7s are easily AP3, and even AKs will find the gaps in that armor eventually.

Probably only 5. They're too quick to be hit by an rpg and their armour would allow them to survive the blast easily if the explosive detonated near them. Gotta remember an RPG only penetrates effectively if it hits what it's trying to penetrate, even a metal cage seriously messes with them.

Marines are simply too fast to be beaten in a firefight and their armour would keep them safe if they ever got caught out.

Then you've got multiple lifetimes of combat experience. If Simo Hayha can kill 505 men, a team of marines could certainly defeat far more with hit and run strikes. Given a vehicle they could almost certainly evade any conflict they don't wish to be involved in.

Keep in mind a marine can march for days without food or sleep.

It would take all of ISIS concentrating their efforts to eliminate the marines. They are not organised to do this though.

The only reason they can die to lasguns on the tabletop is game balance.

Why wait? It might not be as fluffy, but you can run them as standard guardsmen, and they're pretty easy to kitbash - it's mostly Cadian pieces, with a few odd Catachans for bare arms. They're even fairly light on vehicles, with only a few salamanders and other fast things in the Scouting Company.
