The new BFG trailer made me wonder, are there any subfactions (craftworlds, ork clans, chapters (even though it's mainly the navy's job), dynasties, warbands, hive fleets, etc.) that specialise in space warfare? Obviously most of the fluff we get is about planetary fisticuffs, but I wondered if there was anything out there about this.

If not, which subfactions would you think might be especially good at this? To throw some ideas out there with eldar to start with
>Saim-hann, because they like flying and are pretty natural at it
>Yme-loc, because they're expert artisans so can put together a powerful fleet

Craftworlds in general are going to kick ass at space battles what with them being, ya know, big fuck off spaceships. There's a reason the Imperium have a DO NOT PURSUE LU BU policy on craftworlds.

Since apparently 80% of TG now plays orks I was wondering if you could answer some fluff questions I have had for a while:

How numerous are the Orks when compared to Necrons? Tyranids?

Do Orks ever truly seek to control a world or do they just WAAAGH!! and run?

Are Deff Dreads living tombs like Dreadnaughts or just piloted walkers?

Is Ghaskull still alive? From what I remember he just got sucked into the warp with his ship after Apocalypse. Does the supplement just detail that war or does it explain the aftermath?

I thought I heard about an ork book (a novel, not codex/supplement) but that had to be a year ago and nothing much sense. Any news?

1) Unknown, likely though Necrons are the smallest of them, orks far greater an tyranids larger than orks.

2) To Waaagh is the purpose of orks, controlling worlds can be useful, but sittign about like a lazy umie, is muckin' about.

The orks personal waaghs differ immensely.
Some just want to kick shit over, meks may want to create the perfect waagh machine, Wazdakka Gutsmek, the greatest speed freak in the universe wants to create a wormhole superhighway highway so he can ride his bike across the entirety of the universe shooting and shouting at shit all the while, never having to stop and board a flight.

3) Deff dredds are almost all ork volunteers that got drunk and didn't realize what they were getting into.
Some can leave, through many are wired in for life.

4) No idea, I know he left Armageddon when he got bored with the stalemate.

5) It's out, it's actually a whole series called , The Beast Arises first part is: I am Slaughter.
Halfway in and not a single ork yet, just marines and other humies muckin' about being sad, shooting at made up xenos and playing politics.

>How numerous are the Orks when compared to Necrons? Tyranids?

Hard to say, since the majority of Tyranids haven't entered the galaxy and Necrons are still in the process of waking up. I'd say the Orks are at least as populous as the Imperium, so in terms of raw numbers they're one of the largest races in the setting.

>Do Orks ever truly seek to control a world or do they just WAAAGH!! and run?

Ork Empires that control a specific area of space are very much a thing.

>Are Deff Dreads living tombs like Dreadnaughts or just piloted walkers?

They're living tombs. A lot of Deff Dread pilots volunteer for the procedure, thinking it'll serve as a quick route to power. The limits of being wired into a giant metal box tend to work against them, however, leaving most of them extremely frustrated and looking for an outlet to vent upon.

>Is Ghaskull still alive? From what I remember he just got sucked into the warp with his ship after Apocalypse. Does the supplement just detail that war or does it explain the aftermath?

Gazzy's still around. He's currently helping the Orks of Octarius fight off Hive Fleet Leviathan, and working to unite the race into one giant super-Waaagh!

>I thought I heard about an ork book (a novel, not codex/supplement) but that had to be a year ago and nothing much sense. Any news?

There was a novella, IIRC called Evil Sun Rising, written by Guy Haley released last year. That might be what you're thinking of.

Yeah, Archon shouldn't just be standing around on his own, and Raider Warriors are less efficient than Venom Warriors unless you pull up into charge distance.

Keep the two Warrior squads in Venoms (maybe give them blasters; you're really low on anti-tank). With the rest of your 260 points, then you can grab an HQ and some sort of assault unit for him to ride with. Archon + Incubi in a Venom is a popular combo. Alternatively you could do something like giving the Archon a Blaster (and maybe a Webway Portal) and some ranged squad like Medusae or something if you don't want an assault HQ.

My personal DE list at 500 is:
Succubus + Archite Glaive: 95
Grotesques + Raider (+ Dark Lance): 165
Warriors + Blaster + Venom (+ Splinter Cannon): 120
Warriors + Blaster + Venom (+ Splinter Cannon): 120

Imperial armour 8.

Aside from that there's only the looted tank there, the mediocre warboss Grukk Facerippa and his shitty starter pack formations in the SW/Ork starter pack box, not worth the time.

And some extra formations and wargear in the Waaugh Ghazkull supplement.

>> No.44212896

We have rules, models, formations, etc. in about 5 different books (Orks, Ghazghkull, Sanctus Reach1&2, White Dwarf, IA8, and im pretty sure im missing one)

The best place to start with Orks is boyz, then read your codex and fall in love with a unit an base your army around it, id recommend reading through the 4th edition as it actually has a good amount of fluff and sexy artwork.
Then rinse and repeat, just remember you love Orks because they're Orks, not because they're competitive.

>> No.44212984

At leat with Orks you can just make it a very dirty messy yellow since they're Orks and aren't exactly know for being master painters, so you don't have to do a perfect bright crisp yellow like you'd need on Imperial Fists or Iyanden, which is a massive pain in the ass.

The artifacts are actually all either decent or good with the Big Bosspole standing out as the best (gives fearless to the models unit)
Formations in my opinion are as follows
Council of Waaagh!: Fun but ungodly expensive points wise
Bullyboyz: Good if you somehow have 15 mega nobz
Vulcha Skwad: Bad bad bad
Blitz Brigade: Very underratted id say but again, needs 5 fucking Wagons
Dread Mob: Going to try this out soon, more for fun
Red Skull Kommandos: It could work, but thats a lot of guys in reserve

15 point short ranged models with a 6+ save?

Might as well hammer nails in with your face, less painful and you won't look stupid doing it.

Me too, I hate the fucking model pictures

Kinda thought of a way a second ago. Throw in a Big Mek, Lucky Stikk, Mega Armour, KFF, Kombi Skorcha (for themes), a painboy, and then Burnas. As long as you were rolling well that Big Mek could tank a lot of punishment. Still kinda sketchy lol

Too much points for a gimmick.
I wish orks had a 5+ by default, orks wear giant metal shoulderpads, helms and trophys, it should be as protective as cardboard that is flakk armour.
6+ is just improvised, so no actual metals involved.

Just stick them in a trukk or battlewagon. You don't even need to spit them out to cause burny dancing to occur, just put down a single template from the hull covering as much as possible then multiply it by the number of burnas you have. Cover an entire tactical squad and you're doing 120 autohits with a full trukkload.

Got to get outflank somehow to make it worthwhile though.

Could a Warboss survive/ win combat with a greater daemon?

Still looking for Dark Angel help against Necrons

Currently at 1500 I am bringing a 6 man RW command squad with all it can take running with my Librarian (lvl2) and Int Chap (with Mace of Redemption) on bikes. Then four units of 3 man bikes. 3/4 grav 1/4 melta as well as a support squad of four double bolter land speeders with a dark shroud and a ravenwing attack squad with 1 ls and 2 attack bikes with meltas.

I am considering dropping down to my 1000 point list and (less bike and no attack squad or librarian) and shaving some points off and bringing a Deathwing Redemption force with a mix of 2x5 vanilla and double claw termis. For points reasons I am not sure which HQ to bring but was leaning towards another Int Chap or the Chap Master.

He brings the normal reclamation legion or whatever with the 10 immortals, an overlord, 10 lychguard, 6 tombblades 2 ghost arks and I want to say 30-40 warriors. Sometimes he brings a monolith.

My thinking is that instead of running grav bikes endlessly into the Crons I can drive by and drop off a Terminator care package. They can more than deal with the Lychguard I image and then with hope, slay the warlord or smash through some warriors.

My same line of thinking is leading me to bring the same deathwing edition against the new Wraith Host I have to face, though the grav bikes are more keen in that matchup. Maybe at higher points Deathwing Knights could take the Wraithknight? Or is that best left to grav? How about the DW Dreadnaughts?

I have absolutely no interest in ever running Greenwing marines.

Oh and he also brings the annihilation nexus at times which is a real pain.

No, he would get smushed on average even if he had full wargear and the daemon didn't.
