Killing a giant monster ultimately takes less work than finding a way to reliably contain it and interact with it often enough to start training it.

Because animals that can actually be domesticated or tamed have to meet and extremely specific criteria, none of which monsters meet, often simply by their definition.

Some monsters are worth taming - ones you can ride, might be good in a fight, ect.

But you have to think about how many or which ones you can properly care for, or what the rest of the world would accept walking through their towns.

Are you a fucking mental m8? That thing would require enough meat to feed a village for a year and a half every week. You don't just jump into monster taming and pick one of the meanest monsters on the block, you start off with something small, like a velocidrome or a jaggi. Even then you don't go toe to toe with the Jho. Seriously, it's like trying to get into a bare knuckle brawl with a brachydios. Remember when Josh tried that? Josh is fucking dead now. It goes in this order:

Fearing monsters -> finding monsters, running away -> hunting monsters -> hunting monsters for trade/sport -> taming monsters

You don't just find a dragon and tame that shit. It takes decades, maybe centuries, of co-existence, study, and familiarization before monsters are used enough to human presence and humans are knowledgeable enough of monster habits/instincts for taming to properly take place.

Of course, it also boils down to temperament and usefulness. Some monsters aren't worth taming, or are too shitty to tame. These problems can be helped by extensive (and I mean extensive) breeding, but... you'd need a reason to do that. Maybe a clan of magi of the natural philosophies would take an interest, but it's certainly the sort of project that really could only be undertaken by a strangely long-term-thinking state, or at least lord, with the cash and resources to sit around breeding less shitty and more ride-able versions of the local flesh melting wyverns.

So yeah, you can do it, but it takes more than two warriors and a spear. You need a large human presence, a shit load of time, and actual effort over the long term to tame most monsters.

In other words... you can't?

I mean, succibi and erinyes play doms so much of a time when someone comes around with a cute idea of trying to tame them they'll play along for the chance of being a sub for a while. Outer planars are essentialy immortal so human lifetime means nothing to them, they'll easily play with you a decade or two.

But their nature can't be changed, and eventually they'll tire of you and kill you when your guard is down. That's just a matter of when, not if.

And if it comes down to some guarantees they've given to you, if they've no choice they'll refuse and break those. Image related.

I mostly agree with this, but I will point out that you can tame an animal but not domesticate it. The best example of this would be the elephant, which is also great because it is essentially a monster (Big, hard to kill, smart, long lived, dangerous) Humans are able to tame them, but they are not domesticated. Elephants are not bred, they are caught in the wild. Of course, there needs to be a need for them, and they need to be an animal that is able to be tamed, which is why Asian elephants have been tamed much more than African elephants.

Jho explodes into fire and hate when it gets angry because it's baseline body temperature is already above boiling. When it feels angry or threatened, it's already hypertrophied muscles swell even more, and produce even more heat, and require even more blood flow, to the point where it's metabolism is so fucked that it literally bursts into dragonfire. It's a biological furnace that goes into overdrive when it gets angry. Angrier than it normally is. Jho is always angry.

Look dude, if you're going to propose taming monsters, let's not pick one of the single most hyperaggressive and dangerous things that walks on two legs.

Start small. A Royal Ludroth seems like a much easier prospect, and you could totally use that to pull boats or as aquatic cavalry.

Given the fact that 2/3 of the creatures that make up the chimera are predators, i'd say that they'd be omnivorous with carnivorous leanings. Their main food source would likely be meat, with plants and berries and the like usually being devoured as a secondary choice in order to keep their digestive system balanced, provide whatever nutrients would be missing from meat, or cure internal ailments. They'd basically be like your standard brown or black bear in terms of diet, but with a distinct preference for actively hunting for meat rather than taking it whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I don't know for Arzuros. I mean, it's bearlike, but at the same time the food that it likes is plentiful, and makes it easier to approach in general. Volvidon seems a far more aggressive beast though, due to the volatile nature of their terrain meaning they need to likely be more active. Canonically its possible to tame a Rajang (and one would assume Kirin since you can order Kirin milk with meals), so theoretically you could tame anything not hyper-violent (Jho), highly-intelligent (as the Elder Dragons are rumored to be), or evil-incarnate (as things like Fatalis are rumored to be).

Still have never had someone reply with what I was looking for though, and making my own has been on my backburner for a very long time. I have always wondered why the fuck the ranger's pet scales slower than the druid who can just fucking summon them.

Makes way more sense for the hunting focused class to have an animal companion than the dude that can literally summon them any time he has a single spell prepared.

How the fuck is it more interesting? Its the SAME FUCKING THING. All they did was give it poison instead of lightning to hide how lazy they were being, then doubled back and gave it the subspecies to make it obvious they were just slapping a now paint job on an old monster.

The fuck is the point? If you want to see oviposition just watch its attack animations you sick fuck.
However, that one doujin where it rapes and impregnates that one bitch was hot as fuck.

They'd have to be very monstrous to avoid a particular tendency of /tg/.
Then again, monstergirl tamer quest sounds fun too.

Never played MH. How tamable are these things? They seem cute, even at full size.

Well bestiality can be avoided by just making the monsters Good Christian Girls and Boys.

You dont get monster nookey unless you spend years on complicated mating rites

>> No.43859106

Mating rite quest. I'd play it.

>> No.43859506

Well if you are doing monster taming, it would make more sense to be monstrous critters. Although there is Totemist quest, which involves binding the souls of beasts to focuses which can then channel their properties in conjunction with other items, and being the one who deals with both the spirit realm and material world. That said, the other way around the waifu problem is to give them opportunity not tied to the job
