1. Do you like Fantasy or Sci-Fi more?
2, Would you consider yourself a /pol/-ack(socially conservative) or a tumblrite(socially progressive)?

This isn't bait - I'm just curious if the possible stereotype of fantasy likers being more conservative that sci-fi likers is true.

Than sci-fi likers*

As for me(OP)

is that a stereotype? i've heard people complain that sci-fi is too conservative.

That's how I imagined it - the middle ages were more spiritual and many atheists(especially fedoras) fantasize about the future and technology

>> No.42305944

Scifi
A strange mix of both.

Fantasy but not just mainstream fantasy

Er, socially conservative I guess. When I was a liberal I was in my hard sci fi phase.

I'm not really a conservative, though, just a weird sort of reactionary.

>> No.42305981

Definitely on the /pol/-ack end of the spectrum.

I suppose I enjoy fantasy more than sci-fi but I do enjoy most-all good, well designed settings.

Kind of ruins the experiment when you tell the subjects what the experiment is about.

I've only been able to play scifi TTRPGs, but I prefer scifi. I'd really love to play some urban fantasy, butchuno.

Doubt it. It's not that people change preferences or political ideology once they are told why they are polled.

Bump

Now I wish a shitstorm would've happened to keep the thread alive

Did I scare people off with my shitty grammar?

>> No.42306331

Imperial Sci-fi, Pulp Sci-fi, and Sci-Fantasy (Sci-fi from the 50's-70's, with some exceptions made for later cases) are my preferences for fiction, in that order. I do sometimes delve into 'straight' Fantasy, though. I just prefer it to be more like The Hobbit, Flight of Dragons etc. Less Game of Thrones.

I'm a conservative. Although I'm more middle of the road.

Both. I like sci-fi and fantasy equally. I guess if I were forced to choose I'd pick sci-fi.

I've been accused of being /pol/, which is sort of true, I guess, but with a lot less genocide-approval and racism. I have a Confederate naval jack hanging in my room, and have traditional Christian morals, but politically I'm a classical liberal (think Thomas Jefferson).

I like Sci-Fi more.
I consider /pol/acks and Tumblrinas to be two sides of the same brain damaged coin.
I'd call myself a Classical Liberal, which is basically the opposite of a Progressive Liberal (tumblr).
I think all people should be free to think and express themselves, I believe in the right to bear arms, and the right to an unbiased trail where everyone is guilty until proven innocent, and all that other good stuff.

That sounds awfully like a /pol/ack.

Behind all the nazi maymays /pol/ is a board full of moderate conservatives venting off due to their daily lives.

>>42307176

Christian morals instantly make you a moderate /pol/ack

>> No.42307375

The difference is that I don't go to /pol/ with any regularity, and I don't surround myself with Nazi maymays, it isn't very constructive for discussion, at least in my limited experience with /pol/.

>> No.42307408

Sci-Fi and tumblrite I guess.
Though I also like me some fantasy and somehow I read fantasy books much more than sci-fi, but sci-fi as a setting/genre is a bit more appealing to me.

As for 2. I just think the world can't and shouldn't go on like it does at the moment. With the massively unequal distribution of wealth, the gubbmints listning more to lobbys and corporations and whatnot.

See, I kind of take issue with that.

If I say "I believe homosexual acts are wrong," that makes me /pol/ apparently, even if I follow with, "But it's not my job or the government's to force people not to commit those acts."

Not to mention, as a classical liberal I will defend the right of a black person, a Jew, a gay, a trans person, or whoever to have free speech, bear arms, practice (or not) their religion freely, etc. etc.

/pol/ would HATE me.

1. I think I lean a bit more towards Sci-Fi, though I think fantasy is alright. I just like the settings to have a large element of the bizarre to them rather than classic Star Trek scifi or D&D fantasy.
2. Tumblrite, though tumblrites would call me /pol/ since I don't buy their bullshit.

2. Socially progressive, but to a moderate degree. All for personal rights, but not at someone else's expense like tumblr seems to think is right.
