>PC finds new, magical armor
>Sells his/her old armor

What happens to old, used armor? Plate armor was historically custom made to fit the body of its wearer, so you can't really sell it or hand it down to someone else. It's easier for chainmail and the like but what happens to custom made armor? Is it just molten down and the iron reused?

That was one nice thing in Haunting of Harrowstone. The couple that ran the general store had a full suit of masterwork armor on display (that belonged to the wife's mother in her adventuring days). They would joke about how it was standing guard, but if you got a high enough reputation you could buy it.

Always thought it would be nice to borrow it, defeat the whispering tyrant with it, then bring it back with a little more legacy to it, ya know? But I also think that'd be intruding on family pride. Like, it'd be one thing if one of the daughters grows up and uses her grandmother's armor to close the worldwound, but some random person with a heavy coinpurse, not so much.

>Plate armor was historically custom made to fit the body of its wearer

A common fantasy trope, bull utter bullshit as far as reality is concerned.

Custom fitted plate armour was the top of the line stuff, for the kind of person who'd today get his suits from a tailor in Milano or London instead of off the rack.

The vast majority of armour was mass produced in a few manufacturing centres (Milano being big on male fashion even back in the late middle ages), with the Italians in particular exporting to all of Europe. A knight or patrician who wanted a full harness would buy it off the rack, probably choosing form a few standard sizes, and for the lord who was buying to stock the armoury with basic grunt armour there were "one size fits all, kinda" variants with sliding rivets and whatnot.

>> No.41689517

9. A wizard is buying used armors in bulk for the new dungeon he is building.
10. Two or more buyers are engaged in a fierce bidding war for your old armor; roll again twice on this table.

He probably used to be a deciduous hermit crab: eating berries, nuts, mushrooms, carrion and the droppings of herbivorous beasts.

I'd bet dollars to donuts the original owner of the helmet got their head cut off or either died in the woods: vermin ate the contents of the helmet our crab sage was probably the "last man out".

>Each suit of full plate must be individually fitted to its owner by a master armorsmith, although a captured suit can be resized to fit a new owner at a cost of 200 to 800 (2d4×100) gold pieces.
It's assumed that when you buy full plate from an armourer it's fitted for you and for a looted suit you can get it precisely fitted for 200-800 gp worth of work (which you could do yourself if you rocked Craft (Armour) in the same way you'd make any other item). It's not specifically ruled, but I'd say that full-plate which hadn't been fitted properly but was of the right size category could only be donned hastily, giving it an AC bonus and AC penalty both one point worse than normal.
