So I was fishing around for ideas to model a Necromunda gang on, and settled on the Warboys from Mad Max, only problem is the only models I can think of that would work decently are Digganob Diggas, and they're pretty damn hard to get a hold of nowadays.. I could use Necromunda goliaths, but they're more fitting of the guys from Road Warrior.
Anyone got any good ideas for alternate models?

Brace yourself, I've been thinking about this too lately!
>and settled on the Warboys from Mad Max
>only models I can think of that would work decently are Digganob Diggas
As a matter of fact I have a box of them here and I don't think they'd make good stand ins. Unless you want to move away from the movie flavor and add more 'GW-style' elements.
>I could use Necromunda goliaths, but they're more fitting of the guys from Road Warrior.
Goliath are basically competition bodybuilders not even strong men in terms of looks, while the warboys are starved teens/young men plagued by sickness. You need something less beefy
>Anyone got any good ideas for alternate models?
A few.
Okay first of all you need to source some good half naked models. You need to think about scale here. You'll need yoofs and adults.
You can get some pretty good celtic warriors (lots of hair and beards though but plastic) and woodland indians (meteal) from warlord games. The celts will likely require a headswap. The indians an new pair of trousers or a swap for the lower legs.
Warlord is slightly smaller heroic scale than GW, which should make them perfect candidates for swapping their lower bodies with popular aftermarket products for IG. I had my eye on Victoria Miniatures, because they are close to the old Perry models in scale, i.e. a smidge smaller too.

Now the youths could be done by combining true scale models. The Perry's have some plastic Indians as well, though the plastic Madhist box will likely give you better value for money. Wargames Factory have Woodland indians too, but they have chiseled abs. Either way, next to heroic models they'll look lanky so they'll probably be perfect if you can make them a little shorter.

Aside from that you just need a little GS to add a piece of cloth around their neck of face maybe. You can get googles (against sand) from Victoria Miniatures as well, which can be added to any mini.

Hope that helps.

>> No.41158789

Awesome, thanks guys, completely skipped over historical models, just need to get some good legs and a couple bags of guns and I'm set.

That's where I'm up to and I tried Mephiston Red next but it seems to stand out too much. Have I maybe just done the lines too thick?

For an idea of thin, if you've got GW paints, you'd take your Agrax Earthshade, dip your mid sized brush in it, and wipe it all off on a palette, then clean your brush, dip it in water enough that it'll drip and make about 3 drops of water mix with the wash, and that's around right, or if you've only got brown paint, dip like the bottom 3mm of your brush in, wipe it off on the palette, and do the same but with 4 drops of water.

Update on the Genestealer Patriarch - he now has all his arms! Sculpting on the upper arms is complete; the lower pair just need blending into the body. The legs are close to being done; I think the toes might need additional tendons to make them more genestealery, but they're close. After that, it'll just be the chest and back to do, and he'll be done!

Also included is a bonus Hybrid Acolyte, to lead a squad of Brood Brothers.

I'll trade you; here's the recipe for the cultist, and in return, I might steal your 'nid-servo-skull idea, depending on how big my cult gets (I've got ideas of doing a rogue Genetor of the AdMech who, in the course of his research into the Tyranids, has been splicing their DNA with humans' in ways that he shouldn't). The body is a normal Chaos Cultist's, with the head from the old Chaos Mutations Sprue. Most of my Brood Brothers have WHFB Ghoul heads, but this one had the big, bald, bulging look that I thought worked for a 'stealer Hybrid. His hand has been replaced with a 'stealer claw, and his third arm is a spare Ghoul arm; the lasgun, I think, came from an old Catachan sprue that I cleaned up and filed the aquila off.

Quick rundown to make this easier on you

>you're priming black for bright colors, use grey instead
>you're basecoating purple then paint orange over it for some reason. It's probably easier to prime grey > get a few coats of orange on > use a purple wash such as druchii violet
>you appear to be painting with a pot of white that has gone bad. Get some matte medium and a toothpick. Add a LITTLE medium to the paint pot and stir that fucker up until it doesn't look like seagull poop
>your brush control seems good enough to be good at painting but by the looks of it, you're using a low quality brush. Invest in a better one.

If you want even more assurances for quick improvement, invest in a full spectrum daylight lamp so you can actually see which colors you're painting.

The order of operations is very important too. Fully assembling models like this makes it much harder to paint. GW guides will give you a pretty good idea on which order of paints/washes to use and what to paint first.

Not really the catholic church thing. It's just that Sigmar is a dude and the priest model themselves after him, using a hammer and whatnot.

There are also no female wizards, though that might just be because the Empire is basically Renaissance Germany.

It was done with hairspray weathering. Basically, you start with a rust colour as your base, then give it two layers of hairspray over the top. Now airbrush the model whatever colour you want the armour, in my case rakarth flesh and add all shading etc. once you have finished this, take a stiff bristled brush or q tip and wet it, and you will be able to literally chip away at the armour colour and reveal the rust colour underneath. Once this was done I gave the entire armour a sepia wash before sealing it.

Just use whatever program you are using to print it to change how big you're gonna print it. If you use PS or something like that you can arrange it on a preview page. If you use something like Illustrator or Inkshape you can also just change size on the page in mm via preview.

If you buy a bitz box (sometimes people sell them on ebay) you'll for sure end up with enough extra arms to differentiate them. I like having boyz that have two sluggas or two choppas, and it's almost a requirement that you have the stikkbomb boy, one git that has the stormboy head with the stikkbomb in the mouth, an arm throwing a bomb, an arm holding extra bombs and a few extra bombs attached to his body.

Yeah, AoBR boyz do look cloned as fuck straight out of the box. However, with a handful of spare bitz, patience and some kunnin' reposing you can get them to look unique enough. Pic related is all AoBR boyz, 3 different stock poses plus the nob. The simplest thing you can do is chop off the choppa hand at the wrist and turn it a bit and glue back (pinning recommended). Gives them a slashing/chopping look.

>> No.41183777
