I've noticed something about these threads. It's the same people over and over again looking for games. Sure there's the occasional GM-- but the real question is why can't all these players find a game they like and stay in it?

>> No.40187630

>>40187549
Some people simply have no luck finding games, even over the course of weeks or months. Others find games that don't quite meet their expectations and leave, or the game itself falls apart. Still others will just be difficult people themselves and turned away.

Overall it just takes an unfortunate amount of luck to find a game that lasts and is filled with decent people.

>> No.40187657

Also the hobby has a much higher concentration of people who want to play than those that like to GM. The latter group generally having a lot less trouble finding games and not needing to spend as much time hanging around in game finder threads.

Find the right group to game with is really the great social dilemma of game finder threads. Since the groups that form are pick up groups, more or less, you get a mixed bag of people. Some times they mesh well and the game gets off to a great start, but most of the time the group is so-so, and the game suffers as a result.

>> No.40187810

>>40187712

That's been my experience at least. And fewer and fewer game finder threads are lasting long enough to get the word out. I would love to find a group that was text-based, RP heavy and friendly enough to talk outside of game-time.

Alas, it's been all silence and bitter voices.

Homebrew- Not sure on all the details but this game is certainly not mechanics focused. I want to try some bastarized 2 dice system where one dice is your character's natural ability and the other is a circumstance or surroundings dice which changes based on difficulty or natural problems like darkness, etc. See Additional Details for more info.

So what I want to try to do is whip up a game with players who have a lot of freedom in game and at character creation. I'm doing some ridiculous system where each player gets a certain number of 'QP' or 'Quest Points' which allows them to build a character. Each 'thing' is one point, with really good things being multiple points.
Like 'this character control fire, that's 1 point. Then 'this character can summon fire, that's another point.

As you can see, you can use this system to basically make anything you want, from generic classes you already know to crazy and interesting character. I do have limits on crazy but its hard to say.

In addition, the game's setting is a tribal, nearly stone age high-fantasy setting. More interesting then it sounds.

Anyone interested at all in this clusterfuck?

The main problem, that I see, is making sure everyone's likes and dislikes fit together.

Scheduling is already difficult, but now we have to worry about kinks as well.

That and the right balance of story to delicious plot. I figure it'd work best for a very small group, possibly a solo campaign but that might be rather boring.

System too, but I'm gonna go with something rules-lite, most likely. Not FATAL god damnit.

Been a while since I posted on /tg/, and I can't find the FUCKING e-mail field with the addon I'm using, so you can e-mail me at [email protected]

Throw-away for now, will probably use IRC to get everyone interested together to discuss things. May move on to skype or something else that can hold group convos later, but text-only for hopefully obvious reasons.

Hackmaster 5th ED, I'll provide the books since it's fairly hard to get online sometimes.

>Times Available (with timezone!)
Planning on running this on a weekday (mon-thurs) and would preferably discuss with the players what of those days would be most fitting for them. Already in a campaign on weekends and I don't want to have things clash.

Timezone is GMT+2 (Sweden). Practically a NEET so time of day doesn't matter much but Europe players are preferred because of internet connection.

>Method of Play (Skype, IRC, roll20, etc)
Roll20 for play, Skype for call the call. The game has an Honor-based feature that evaluates you on your roleplaying and gives certain in-game benefits depending on the quality of it. Would prefer it if everyone involved is okay with speaking on mic, but for basic things text is okay. Found it that players get more invested when they have to actually talk.

>Additional Notes
Once again, new to GMing online so please take in mind that I'm not as experienced. I want to start running the sessions within 1-2 weeks, and it would be great if players send in their character sheet before that. I have most of the things setup for a first session so we can start earlier if everyone involved is okay with it.

We'll decide the tone of the game as a group (ie how dark it and shit it'll be) so that it doesn't end up uncomfortable.

>Types of Characters I play
I try to keep it varied. But tend to shy away from arcane spellcasters or straight casters at least. Last few characters I played included a Paladin/Druid(urban variant) who policed the streets of his home city using 1k faces and holy ironwood spears. An Orcish Fungal Druid (just a core druid) I fluffed with mushroom spells and backstory. Was gonna cross class into Alchemist... never got around to it. And my Only War character was based off a character from a Quest thread and was a hulking Chimera Operator who chain smoked and had a penchant for getting things detonated.

>Reminder that this GM wants to charge SEVEN DOLLARS to play. In a fucking online game

I would like to know what the money is used for before getting the pitchfork down from the mantle.
I could also see it as being a check to see if the player is serious thing and if the money was used for enriching the game (as in if it's for materials, see: premium content for maptools, TS server hosting costs) then I could understand.

People feel more committed to something they paid money for, even if it's a small amount.

On the other side of the same coin this also means that a paying player will want what they judge to be a worthwhile experience. (bang for the buck)

For a cost of 7 monnies meaning I have other interested parties playing with me I would consider it.

Although, if it's because they just want money that's a different thing entirely.

If you expect between 21~28 dollars a month per person anyway.

They've confirmed it in the past. The only thing they've ever said amounts to "This is a good GM, you should be grateful to pay 7 dollars". Search the archive for one of the previous gamefinder thread if you don't believe me, it was at most 3 threads ago.

Seriously: except the fact that "paid games" online are some major bullshit (I mean, I could potentially understand if it was an IRL game, with a professional DM that uses those funds to do research and give new material for the game itself, such as printing stuff and so on), but I think that this stuff at this point is starting to get disruptive. So! In last thread I commented on how I was interested in GMing for an eRPG game. I'm still thinking things through but I've already set up the basics!

Barebones for now so I'd need some people to test it with, either 1on1 or a group; willing to put up with changes and a "system" that's subject to changing.

I've also never GMd online, despite having done so a lot of times IRL in the past. So we'll need to figure that out too.

I figure text based is obviously the best choice here, over voice-chat for obvious reasons!

First time trying this system but it seems to fit the whole Nen system pretty well. Here's the blurb I wrote up for the listing:

Still some stuff I wanna flesh out but in general you'll be relatively new Temp Hunters (take jobs subcontracted by the association). You'll have Nen and a type Affinity with a personality that suits (see http://hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Nen#Nen_and_Individuality). It'd be ~10 years before the beginning of the manga.

You just double posted off topic to tell people not to post off topic. Also it's weird that you charge for an online game, and weirder still that you have your players recruit for you unless you decide to come to the thread to defend yourself. You'd seem more credible if you at least tried to justify the costs since it's out in the open now.

I wouldn't say anyone is afraid. I am suggesting that now that the general public of the thread is aware that he charges his players that he make some attempt to justify it rather than just coming here to tell everyone to stop bullying him for it since the player he has recruit for him is stirring up complaints.

I'm not sure why you would even want to warn anyone not to join the game. if you are so sure that you'll have all this support, a logical conclusion would be no one would accept after i told them about the price anyway, virtually resolving your issue with someone other than you deciding the game has value.

Going out on a limb here. Me and a friend are interested in running a Naruto game based around an emerging village where the players act as a genin squad. Power would start somewhere around the beginning of the Chuunin exams.

We're in need of two more players to form the first squad, and if there's interest, a second GM and 3 more players to form a rival squad.

>GM/Player

>System Preferred
We're still debating this, it will be decided when the full group has been formed. Light crunch, heavy narrative is the goal.
>Times Available (with timezone!)
Weekdays after 19, or afternoons on weekends. Again, it depends on the group. Timezone is GMT/GMT+1
>Method of Play (Skype, IRC, roll20, etc)

>Additional Notes
Send an email with your character concept. No crunch, just who your character is and what it can do, quirks, general appearance, specialities, weaknesses etc. The fluff. Keep in mind that the power we're gunning for is early chuunin exams, so keep it to a couple of jutsus. Be vague regarding origins, the idea is to decide as a group where abouts this new ninja village is, as GM I've got a lot written out already, but it's fairly malleable.

Don't be shy we're not autistic.

Honestly, is there a single anime character that can defeat or even fight Broly? And I'm not just talking about Broly, I'm talking about legendary super saiyan Broly capable of employing a number of powerful grab attacks, effortless supersonic flight and the punching strength of a planet crushing gorilla. Also with the ability to conjure an impenetrable energy shield at will and fight with numerous planet-destroying ki blasts and bombs at range such as the eraser cannon, blaster meteor, omega blaster and gigantic eraser, and also powerful telekinetic abilities. In addition to the rage caused by seeing Goku, he has been allowed to build his ki for several decades in his legendary super saiyan form, and has wished for insurmountable power after collecting all seven dragon balls.

I'm talking about Broly after being captured as a child by Dr Gero and made into a bio-android, I'm talking about Broly after traveling in time and absorbing Frieza, Piccolo, super-perfect Cell, Majin Buu and Omega Shenron, as well as the Time Patroller and Super Saiyan Super Saiyan God 2 Son Goku. I'm talking about Legendary Super Saiyan 4 Broly infused by the power of all seven dark dragon balls after fusing with himself from the past, channeling the father/son kamehameha while draining the power of Earth and all other planets in the galaxy.

I dunno, the idea is very simple and in keeping with the setting's three man squads.

Idea is that the players would form a squad, the DM controlling their jounin and whatever they come up against, the desire for a rival squad would come to the fore whenever the chuunin exams happened, so the two GMs could come together to make a big, six-person event with a competitive aspect.
