>PC makes a relatively witty joke

>> No.40032997

Wit isn't intelligence, it's charisma. That's why perform (joke) is based on CHA. Which is my maxed skill.

Which you in fact told me to remember, DM.

Justify it by hearing the joke somewhere else and just repeating it. That's how people get 99% of their humor.

I'm going to interrupt this shit-fest for something that's been bothering me; You picked INT and WIS as your dump stats. You don't get to solve the problems and make sincerely thoughtful remarks. You don't get to pad out your character's failings with your own strengths. You don't get to defeat the fucking purpose of stats and roleplay. Fuck off.

>> No.40033410

>>40033358
Your one of those people that dont let people have simple conversations because they have a to low charisma.

"sir, please you must rally your forces and save this village."
Roll charisma: 6
"he doesn't believe you and throws you in a cell for spreading lies"

That is not how normal people react to situations.
I dont care what kind off low life mutant half-orc looks like.
If he tells me my village is being raided, im going there to check it out.

Wait, what?
who got the nat 20 the half-orc? or the military leader?
Military leader gets a 20 on bluff and convinces everybody that the good hero half-orc is the BBEG and throws him in jail.
Evil leader wins and burns down all the villages

If a scummy half-orc barbarian rushes into the town roaring that it's been raided, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with a quarrel in his back from a guard's crossbow. Plenty of people would think that he is likely one of the raiders.

You'd need high intelligence in order to come up with any sort of system that people have not already discovered and you'd need high charisma to fit in when you are an outsider.

I have dealt with far too many fighters with an Intelligence score of less than 10 who try to justify why their character is invented gunpowder and trying to revolutionize warfare.

There was an incident on an airplane a while back:
An Arabic man was asked to move his suitcase out of his lap and into the overhead storage
He refused, as it was mightily overstuffed and he feared it might burst open and dump his shit all over the plane if he jostled it too much.

The words he picked were "If I move it, it might explode."

The plane was immediately grounded and he was arrested.

A failed charisma roll is a failed charisma roll.

Okay, you have this scummy half-orc making a big fuss and you can make out that a bunch of bandits are raiding a nearby village.
What do you do?
A) investigate the nearby village
B) absolutely nothing and try to imprison the orc

Oh no, stuff like simple conversations shouldn't require rolls unless the character's charisma score is somehow 4 or less, but in the same fucking vein you're not getting in the barmaid's undergarments because you think your character's lack of charisma can be made up for with your own interpersonal skill.

The school of thinking pisses me the fuck off. IF i want to make a witty remark, fuck off. Now if i want to make a remark or argument to actually influence an NPC into doing or thinking something, fun, test against my stats, but I Will play my character's CHARACTER how i want to play it. Stats don't define my personality, and if i want to be a violent cunt with a smart mouth with only 13 int, and 12 charisma, who gives a shit, so long as im not getting any more than that 12 charisma on bluff or so forth.

TL;DR GMs who try to force their players into specific personality archetypes based on the stats they rolled OUTSIDE of a charisma/int/wis check situation (such as actively trying to persuade an NPC) are cunts and I would Insta quit that group if i realized my GM was "that guy"

Odd quips are fine, the problem is when That Guy says he'll role-play those low Intelligence and Charisma scores in exchange for the high Strength and Constitution, but then during play it's his half-orc barbarian who eloquently explains the current situation to the king. Especially if it's That Guy who always has to be the party leader or center of attention.

He's the one who used his mental stats as dump stats. Not the GM.
Brogar the Barbarian should not speak like a nobleman when he has no mental stats above 5. He's limited in his language, and that's a disadvantage that must be taken into account.
