Need a ship that the Imperials would be using to transport a reasonable number (at least 50, but preferably more) V-Wings to a scrapyard with, but has a small enough crew (less than 100?) that it could easily be taken over by pirates.

>> No.39834805 [DELETED]

No such animal.
To put things in perspective, a Vic 2 has a complement of 24 TIE Fighters, and has a crew of six thousand, plus another couple thousand passengers.

Even if you assume a pure transport and that crew by TEN (which is silly), you're looking at a crew of hundreds.

And V-wings need rather more space than TIEs

You should split the shipments. Pirates take them over a period of time.

If the ships are decommissioned, just throw them in any large transport. It won't matter if they're not properly stowed if they don't work anyway.

That's not the point.
The point is that even a bulk transport large enough to haul around 50+ starfighters is a capital ship.

How much damage could Beskar'gam take, is it just marginally better than stormtrooper armor, or could it stop a lightsaber stab with ease?

>> No.39835257

If Karen Traviss is writing, it's damn near invincible. If anyone else is writing, it's tough but will eventually break.

>> No.39835265

Well, it also happens to have a hangar filled with more starfighters than took part in the battle of Yavin....

48 starfighters is probably more than most planetary defense fleets.

>> No.39835280

"Canonically" (as much as that counts these days), proper beskar'gam, Mandalorian Iron and everything, is one of the toughest substances out there. Applying a lightsaber to it just scratches it, though if you keep wailing on a guy, you'll get through eventually. That also only works for the beskar plates, joints are fair game. This is why post-Geonosis Mandos supposedly started wearing gorgets.

Also, it crumples into dust if you know how to Shatterpoint.

Only if traviss is writing

Otherwise it is just as vulnerable to getting blasted as other mass producible armors

>> No.39835329

Lightsabers left minor scratches on a wall made of Mando iron, and it's generally pricier than cortosis. I'd say yes, it could stop a lightsaber.

>> No.39835406

Maybe a refitted GR75. Tiny crew, modular cargo bays means it can be used for whatever. If it's a garbage run, no reason to have more crew.

>> No.39835407

Well, if you're using it to haul mothballed fighters, though.

And this is why you get a gorget. Though prior to the Legends rebranding I believe Mandalore was supposedly running low on beskar, especially after the Empire came. It's not until LotF comes around that they get bloody great lodes of it again. Depending on your interpretation, you could easily say having a real set of beskar'gam is rare and a sign of a wealthy clan or clan member. Or somebody in hand-me downs.

For the time being most wanted furnishes you with the means to take y-wings and firespray pilots that are markedly better than their factioned counterparts, plus crew and upgrade parts hat should be essential for scum and potentially beneficial to imps and rebels.

Just took up Armada and...how do I effectively play Victory Star Destroyers?

I have 2 of them at the moment and I can't seem to ever be catching any of the Rebel ships to do consistent damage. They go too fast and I go too slow.

>> No.39836607

Grab what you want, but as a fellow ScumLord, I definitely recommend a Most Wanted box set. The Scum Y-wings have some fantastic fun tricks, especially from the ability to give them an astromech that makes all 3 speed maneuvers green. Headhunters are solid enough, the Black Sun paintjob is jamming, and slapping Feedback arrays on them makes them TIE fighter++, and you'll need at least one if you're going to be running Bossk in Hound's Tooth when it drops.

That said, if you -don't- want it, don't get it. You could just as easily buy a pair of Starvipers, a Scyk or two and go from there. I do often run Scyks but I'm not a super big fan of them. Though the ability to strap a Mangler onto those little bastards is true joy. Aaaalso, the turret that will be coming with the K-Wing expansion will make heavy Scyk's 100% better.

>> No.39836655

Heavy Scyk doesn't grant a turret slot.

>> No.39836709

Heh, we're pretty lucky. Also, it means the people with more disposable income are capable of pitching in and buying ships so that everyone can play whatever they want. We also are fine with using printed lists in case we don't happen to have the card on hand or enough, what have you.

Hopefully, we'll get back on track with our EotE game, though it sorta got shook up after my ex broke up with me and stole our Wookie. What a ridiculous sentence to type.

>> No.39836807

I really love throwing IG a Feedback Array for close-range sniping. Since you have to take two Ion tokens before worrying about it, it even gives you a lot more control of when you end up drifting.

...Fuck, you're right. I was forcing myself to believe the turret was a cannon. Well, we do have the chance of a new cannon on Hound's Tooth. Just gotta wait and see. And I guess that just makes Scum Y-wings that much happier. Seriously, that turret is love, that turret is life.

What this anon said. All those capital ships carry fighters, but they also carry all of the supplies, equipment, and crew to maintain those fighters. Which is best for someone who knows next to nothing about roll playing games, but is willing to learn to satisfy their love for Star Wars

>> No.39837701

Definitely either Edge or Age. Basically, just talk with your group and find out if they want to play scoundrels and scumbags with a messy pile of Obligations or if they want to play Rebels fighting against the oppressive Empire. The games mechanics are identical, so if you end up wanting to waffle but have learned one, the other is a piece of cake.

>> No.39837735

Will playing the Beginner Game for one of them give me enough stuff and teach me enough to just buy the main game of the other?

>> No.39838583

Almost certainly. The Beginner Game comes with premade characters, a rulebook, and an adventure that does a -fantastic- job at explaining how the game plays as well as some tokens and a map if you're into that. Each of them also has a follow-up adventure that is surprisingly beefy and also incorporates the two games unique mechanics -- Obligation and Duty. I can only speak for the Age of Rebellion followup but it has another 3-5 sessions of play inside of it, while a concentrated group can get through the beginner game in a night.

I'd still recommend getting PDFs of everything, but all you're really missing from one book to the other is rules for creating characters. Which is super simple and all you really need there are print-outs of the class trees.

Also, the followup missions are both freely available online from FFG.

>> No.39838718

Thats awsome to hear.

I have a couple more dumb questions if you are willing to answer. Like I said, I know almost nothing at all about roleplaying games.

What do the tokens and maps do that I wouldnt be able to do without them? Are they totally necessary for the game?

What is included in the standalone hardcover rulebook that isn't explained in the one that comes with the starter pack?

How necessary is getting one of these things? http://www.amazon.com/dp/1616617810/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1IA11JFRBULOT&coliid=I2DY55SDGXOT71

In all honestly, how hard is it to get into a game like this? How many hours am I looking at before I have my first flawless game without having to check the rules for anything?

>> No.39838808

>How many hours am I looking at before I have my first flawless game without having to check the rules for anything?

Friend, I've been running games for like, 6 years. I'm pretty sure I've never ran a session where I didn't have to check something in a book.

And unless you've got a very strong photographic memory, you probably will too. Someone will have to look up the critical chart, at the least.

That being said, depending on how quick a learner or reader you are, you probably can pick up the basics of the game in a few hours.

>> No.39839445

Completely unnecessary. Edge and Age both work perfectly well without either tokens or a map, though the maps can be handy for the included campaigns. Age gives you a map of the Imperial listening post you're tasked with seizing along with the surroundings while Edge gives you a nice map of a Hutt's slum on Tatooine as well as the ship that you jack. Nice, but completely unneeded.

>difference between books
Basically, the starter rulebook is only what you need to run the game. The hardback will have lots of nice tips for running campaigns, DMing basics, info on worlds and large lists of ships and weapons and armor and more.

>DM screen
Not necessary, but I do love my Edge one. They are very well made, feature some fantastic art, and make a very useful aid in cutting down the amount of times you have to check little rulings.

Only the true Kings of the Assy Burgers will ever get to the point they never have to check the rules for anything, but after a few months you'll probably get to the point that you can just wing it. Edge and Age are really nice about letting you run them by the seat of your pants, using dice results to make-up for rules. The number one rule when playing an RPG with your friends should always be
>have fun and tell an interesting story

Mechanics exist as resolution devices, not as the core of the experience. Well, unless you're wanting a crawl.

Most of the actual trays are universal, with slight differences in height from time to time to make swaping them easier

One change I really need to make is swapping this now filled to absolute capacity binder for a quadrow zipfolio. I like being able to have all the pilots for a ship neatly arranged, and since most have 4 pilots the 3x4 arangement makes for nice display

Getting one is an absolute nightmare though, since distribution in freedomland is lacking at best. The only places that do offer it take MONTHS to ship them.

I also need some foam for the top compartment so I can better manage the epic ships. Perhaps when the raider comes out.

Age. As much as I do love my fantastic Edge party, I find it a lot easier to handle players in Age. With a group that sometimes reaches 7 players, Age gives everyone a single unifying goal that makes it really nice to help people get on task. Meanwhile, in Edge, you're always herding cats with a number of different Obligations that often lead to backstabbing over backstabbing.

When I ran the Beginner Game of Age, we finished it in about 2 hours with a fantastic finale of the party's Spy sneaking aboard the Lamdba shuttle that the second half of the party had failed to disable in time -- they got distracted attempting to murder-hobo a battle droid in the kitchen and instead got into a vibroknife fight -- and shooting the leader of the base's second in command, yanking him out of the pilot's seat and crash-landing the shuttle after the first half of the party seized control of the single anti-air battery and shot out the Lambda's engines fearing that the man was getting away and would alert that the station was lost.

When I played the Beginner Game of Edge, the party just devolved into bickering children and we got about a third to half of the way done with it in two hours. TWO HOURS.

>The owner of the vessel, CHICO DUSTY. A Corellian human that is basically Hunter S. Thompson in space. He's out to EXPLORE THE GALAXY, DISCOVER IMPERIAL MISDEEDS, and ENLIGHTEN THE MASSES. Bandit Squadron

Ten and Cracken going at PS 10 means more than likely you can respond to boost shennanigans, espeically if you're not retarded when flying.

Cracken shoots first, then passes actions off to Ten or whoever needs it.

Ten puts a crit on whoever needs to be shat upon first.

Blue drops 4 dice on the juiciest target available

Bandit becomes Hero Bandit *clap clap, clap clap clap* and is generally just annoying.

Allowing Ten Numb to go last when moving allows for a surprising amount of arc-dodging from him, and what's even funnier is the Cracken-Ten dance....

Where Ten focuses, shoots, Cracken shoots and passes action to Ten, who then barrel-rolls either into Range 3 or out of arc of whoever he just shot.

Relatively defensive ships that are normally not quite as manueverable. Tend to hit harder, dodge more poorly. Also, shields. Shields out of your asshole. And astromechs that give your ships a lot of fun gimmicks. You also have a a massive amount of pilots that fit together into beautiful clocks of teamwork combos. While TIE fighters may do well as a swarm, you do well as a wing with various ships helping out one another to become a really dangerous force.

Three X-wings flying in formation is a lot of fun and also surprisingly hard to deal with.

B-wings are GOD

X-wings don't exactly suck (some of THE best named pilots in the game), but they haven't really got a major /ship/ update since they came out, so they tend to lag on the maneuver game.

A-wings are great, just make sure you get Rebel Aces for Chardaan Refit and A-wing Test Pilot, not to mention the B-wing upgrades and pilots.

B-wings are stupidly durable and about to be really happy with the K-wing xpack. Ten Numb is a p cool dude, and the pilot that can shoot 360 torpedoes is hilarious fun.

X-wings are very solid, and when I do play Rebels, I actually tend to stick to X-wings with an occasional B-wing. Astromechs are your friends, and most of the pilots are really fun.

A-wings are firecrackers. Essentially the closest Rebels come to having an Interceptor, they are really good at harrying enemy ships and there's even a pilot that can still shoot ships that he's touching. Along with an Elite Pilot Talent that reduces the Agility of any ship you are touching... Hehaw. A-wings have really fun pilots, including one that gets a free boost or barrel roll when you focus, and another can can still take actions when stressed.

My thought is that you're essentially paying 10pts for a souped-up B-wing(BR, Evade, 3green, so still roughly same toughness). The thing is, to get 4.33 Mangler cannons you'd normally pay ~17pts, so the list saves 7 for roughly the same effect.

I've run variations of it before but usually with upgrades on Etahn. Thing is, in most games he ends up being a sort of antlion, so enemies trying to get to him set themselves up for a gauntlet. Usually it's possible to slow-roll him and the Bs around rocks as well.

Extra munitions doesn't really give you a reason to take trops. If ordnance wasn't worth paying the points, paying extra points to get more ordnance (even at a discount) is not going to be worth it.

The main problem with missiles and torpedoes is the poor action economy. You have to get a target lock on the ship you want to shoot, and usually have to spend the lock to fire, so you can't modify the rolls.

The upgrade is useful for getting extra bombs cheaper (and letting ships with bomb- and torp slots carry more bombs), and making ordnance that was already useful cheaper to take in multiples. But it won't suddenly make the stuff nobody was taking worth taking.

>> No.39848080

We all work at a grocery store, and so actually getting together at a certain time can be a bit of a dick. We definitely can't play the FLGS because their X-wing night is Tuesday, and two of us are always stuck doing night shift ad changes in two of the departments. The store is pretty awesome, and I recommend to any North Alabama / Huntsbros. The DeeP, it's a two-story shindig where the first floor is a sprawling comic book store that also has a ridiculous large supply of Warhams, board games, other tabletops, CCGs and LCGs, and RPG books. Top floor is nothing but game space. A crazy amount of tables for everything from X-wing to 40gay, Warmachine to Infinity. They also have really nice rooms set up for RPGs, so you can meet at a nice central and comfortable environment whenever to play DnD, WoD, whatever.

We -- the group I described in >>39807284 -- instead meet at Defender Queen's Beau's house, with Wedge and That Guy McPhantom Spam / CHICO DUSTY being his room-mates. Friendly atmosphere, normally watch Game of Thrones and them hit the tables. Sometimes we just goof around and play a bunch of rounds of Blitz, other times 100 pt games or frightening 80 pt FFAs. Have two black yoga mats as play surfaces, one 3x4 and the other 3x3. Sometimes we play X-wing, sometimes we play Edge, sometimes we play various other RPGs in one-shots from Night Shift to Paranoia. Shit normally brings rum and I and others bring a case of beer.

As bad as the OJO were, what other option did they have? There weren't enough Jedi to handle the CIS alone, the Republic apparently had little to no standing military forces, and they needed a quick answer to droid hordes that didn't involve conscripts and commissars. The Jedi were really backed into a corner there. Palps played them like a damn fiddle.

In any case, weren't the clones physically and mentally adults by the time they were sent to war?

>> No.39852740

The only valid point that article raises is that the Jedi didn't expose palpatine.
Though you could argue that they chose to be a little careful with causing a mass panic during a war that didn't go too well.

The rest of the stuff he talks about are basically major plot points. Like how the Jedi Order has become corrupted and inefficient at what it is supposed to do. They even say that in the movies.
And he kind of imposes a contemporary moral standard on those movies that quite frankly does not make a lot of sense, considering the IP started in the seventies as a western in space with samurai wizards doing ww2 airplane dogfights in space.
So yeah, while there is a lot of shit in the movies that article is also full of shit.

That is because that is flat out wrong.
The Jedi come by when they sense a kid being force sensitive and tell the parents stuff like 'It's better if we teach him, because you don't want to stage your own personal 'The Exorcist' during your child's puberty'.
Also it is made pretty clear that Jedi are universally respected and looked up to in the Republic. Most parents would consider it a honor to have their child become a Jedi.

And if they say no, I doubt the Jedi would just take it. I've never heard of anything like that at all.

Current rumor is second film is now the Boba Fett origin movie, but the rumor sprung from a single site, The Wrap, just saying that it's "confirmed" that that's the premise of the movie because Josh Trank left. They have no source or quote or anything, just that by Trank leaving, it's now somehow "confirmed". The rumors of a Han Solo movie are from back in January, from Entertainment Weekly, who said that two of the movies would be a Han Solo one and a Boba Fett one; this was obviously way before the Rogue One announcement.

Basically, don't trust the rumors.

>> No.39856215

Well, we're working mostly of rumors and speculation at this moment, so maybe he will be an Antagonist in Rogue One instead of an Anti-Hero.

Also, the individual members of the Rebellion have money, most of them were just liberal senators and pissed-off planetary governors. Han got a juicy reward after the Rebels had gotten capital ships, fighters, and secret bases. Who's to say that these backers couldn't scrap together a great fortune to get some professional help for the most daring heist of all time?

Also, the Imperials tended to use Guilded Bounty Hunters -most- of the time, especially early on. And even when they didn't, Bounty Hunters looking for Imperial employ tended to have to have Imperial Peace-Keeping Certificates, and needed to file B23-1-14 permits for proper collection of funds even after the job was due, signed in triplicate, turned in at the proper office, initialed and dated, etc.

So, in the campaign I'm running the party is now on a quest to acquire star fighters for the rebellion.

They've done well so far, as they've found out about a convoy of 3 bulk freighters transporting fighters of an unknown type to a backwater defense fleet.

The players are going after the convoy with ancient Y-wing, a Z-95, and a repurposed delta class storm trooper transport.

How should I complicate things for them?

I'm thinking I'll let them capture a freighter or 2 without incident, only to discover they are full of Pinooks.

Has anyone considered using modified X-wing rules for replacing Edge's relatively sloppy starfighting mechanics? It seems like it could be a fun way of re-energizing the combat. Give all of the player's unique Pilot traits, etc.

For the Wayfarer that my players are riding in, Chico would get control of the maneuvers while also getting a choice of some actions, Agnes would get to shoot off the quad laser cannon, the Rodian outlaw tech would have a few Astromech options to repair the ship's shields or rejigger the power flow, and the Bothan could beg desperate to not die as he flies his Cloakshit.

Yes. There's been numerous attempts over the past couple years. All of them tend to completely disregard talents and be flawed in their own ways.

Maybe have surplus gunships like the LAAT/i or deactivated HMPs in transport along with the fighters, and the party has to fight off stormtroopers starting up the gunship(s) inside of the freighter and attempting to blast them.
Maybe a handful of leftover Dark Troopers, or instead of fighters, one of the bulk freighters is filled with just a bunch of Vulture droids with their brains ripped out.
I guess this depends on how backwater this defense fleet is and if this is more of a "empire dumping garbage" than "reinforcements".

Bothan and Freighter Pilot should fly dangerously, put their pilot skill to greater use. But even then, the homebrew buffs should amp up starfighter survivability a great deal if the Bothan is putting points into Piloting and is grabbing up appropriate talents. In a straight fight with anything not-crazy, gunners can't do much better than just trying to fire, so they're kind of stuck on that. Mechanic can do a decent amount with the described Mechanics and Computers checks in the book, but again like with the pilot, encourage them to get creative. Don't just try the 3 difficulty Computers check to mess with their Defense, or the 3 difficulty Mechanics check to take a strain for an extra 1 Defense, go crazy and creative, try upping the power output to all systems for 5 difficulty, go straight for trying to hack weapons systems at 5 difficulty instead of getting it just by grabbing a Triumph.

Besides that, just tossing obstacles in to spice it up can help. Make a fight take place in-atmo, in debris fields, etc. Obviously you can't do that for every ship battle, but it helps break it up a bit. And you could even do other things to spice it up. Maybe the ship has been messed with and so repairs need to be done, maybe somebody needs to be protected. Do things to make it so starship fights aren't just straight-forward fights.

One. Not an entire chart. A single fucking blurb about not being able to blow up everything.
It also, tragically, refuted points on the chart by mentioning that vehicles and heroes would be in the game, and controllable.

If you wanna hate something, all power to you. But don't fucking lie about it.

>> No.39861507

Great Golly Galloping Gundarks, people used hyperbole on the internet? Of course they weren't specifically bragging that they were dropping classes to appeal to the Call of Booty fanboys, or limited the server pop because of the fact that the game would melt computers on higher server pops.

The point was that these 'features' where they gut features from the original games or otherwise trim from the original Battlefront experience -- like it's 32v32 servers -- has been released by Dice or EA, not as something unpleasant or unfortunate but something that they were happy to announce to their eager fans. Which do nothing but kill hype for the original players of the franchise.

That isn't my chart, nor did I post it. Likewise, I posted about actual information that does have vehicles as controllable, but only after you unlock them with a killstreak system. And the chart didn't refute the fact there were heroes, simply that there was a much, much limited cast of them which doesn't appear to have been refuted yet though there've been rumors about DLC Fett.

>> No.39861655

>Most of the things on the chart and that we are discussing are things that Dice has actually bragged about.

This is what you said. You then used 40 players and no classes as examples. Which they aren't. If most of the things are stuff DICE has bragged (but not actually the two examples you used) I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding examples.

Honestly as someone who has been following this the reasons they've given (where they have given them, they haven't commented on everything) have been quite sound.

In short: they're not trying to tick check boxes they want to make features that form a fun game.

So I'm trying to think of a purpose for a Macguffin droid. One that does something important enough that there are Hutts willing to pay big money to get it back and some Black Suns/Other Hutts desperate enough to mount a huge attack and steal it in the first place. Despite this it needs to be something that the party will be (probably) willing to part with.

My current idea is a droid that in some fashion or another can make, over the very long term, exponential money. Like it's built to make and track hundreds of money transactions every minute and each time shave off any sums less than a credit. As it earns more money it makes more transactions. It's the kind of thing that's unable to pay out noticeable dividends over say the weekend or even a month or two but if you keep it running for a few years you'll be seeing very large sums of money coming in.

Unfortunately I worry my party may be forward thinking enough to go "Hmm, infinite money 5 years from now? I'll take it!" Though then again that could be neat and maybe just form the quest.

Whatever the task is it has to be boring and monotonous enough that a Droid who has gone a long time without a memory wipe (due to having a fairly unique program that's hard to reproduce) would become desperate enough to fake an attack from a rival gang just to escape

Speaking of Twin Laser Turret:

6pts, Range 2-3, 3 dice. Attack: perform this attack twice (even against targets outside of your firing arc). Each time this attack hits, the defender suffers 1 damage. Then cancel all dice results.

So basically 3 attacks with title, but it's closer to Y-wing average damage for each, doesn't have the 1-2 restriction, AND both turret shots get to ignore Range 3 bonuses so they're going to be 3v3 rolls most of the time.

Like say the party gets in a fight with 15 stormtroopers. Can the stormtroopers be represented as three groups of 5 stormtroopers?

If so and one of the groups gets nearly killed can the straggler join one of the remaining groups (making it a group of 6)?

Could a group of 15 start out at 15 but later split into three groups of 5 when the party splits up?

Is there any kind of action associated with doing this or can it be done freely in combat (if it's doable of course)?

Saga is just D20, for good or for ill. It does have a sourcebook for every last thing you would need in Star Wars though at any time.

D6 is more limited in scope, but has some neat mechanics

you don't build that thing with it being a warship in mind first. you build it as a self sustaining city that just so happens to fly and carries ungodly amounts of firepower.

Yes, yes, and yes; minions can freely split / merge. The Age of Rebellion GM screen insert has some rules for different minion group maneuvers, but I wouldn't call any of them requirements.

You can narrate that the minions are in different spots, like instead of just a single cluster, they're circled around the PCs. Splitting and combining into different minion groups? There's no real rules allowing or disallowing it, but I'd be careful about it since splitting the groups means it can take more to kill the minions since overflow damage/crits can be wasted, and the seperate groups can perform multiple attacks instead of one.

Those are for squads, which requires a leader (Rival, Nemesis, PC) to command them and use them as a meat shield. Groups of minions aren't meant to be able to do that on their own.

I love the feel of it, but from an artistry point of view, you could do a better job of conveying movement and action. Landsknecht anon here.

also, TIEs

They audience didn't exist until after the movie, anon.
The empire is white and British because they hired white British actors near the studios they were filming at. Which for the time and budget isn't a problem, but trying to justify it afterwards with weird canonicity shit...

I quickly looked up and charted a bunch of planets that Imperial officers came from as well as known academy locations and shit and did connect-the-dots to get a rough sense of what other parts of space are like this.

Other people have told me that too before. I don't like using movement lines so much but that may be what I have to do, I try to use dust trails and flowy parts to show movement but it doesn't seem to be sufficient. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Does Zev Tallus sound like a good name for a half-mandalorian merc?

>> No.39874091

Eh...feels like a Star Wars name in general, but not a Mando name in particular. The "Tallus" feels too Roman/Latin. Let me run down a few Mando names while I think...

Satine Kryze
Pre Vizsla
Rook Kast
Gar Saxon
Sabine Wren

So those are canon ones, let me see if I can come up with one that fits. Hmm...how does Ven Krasta sound? Or Tec Ghivran? Aktis Sekken?

>> No.39874187

those are all good! so i could use Zev Tallus for just a normal human? i do like the name

Sounds more like the name for a Jedi guarding a hidden temple.

Oh yeah.

Instead, he was the corrupt Prime Minister of Mandalore, eventually busted for deliberately allowing the black market to thrive. He meant well; he felt that regulations were getting in the way of getting needed goods to the people of Mandalore, but openly lifting the regulations would have angered the people, so he facilitated a lot of smuggling to get around it. But the smugglers started bringing in substandard or even outright dangerous stuff, and a whole school of children got sick off tainted tea. The investigation exposed him and he was jailed.

Then Maul and Death Watch swung in, upset the entire established order, and Maul put Almec back as Prime Minister to handle all the day-to-day ruling of Mandalore for him.
