Juno and Mertis are two people who found themselves to be the only magical people in their town, this led to the issue that the only ones they could fight against was each other.
The first few battles revealed that Juno can't completely defeat Mertis alone and that Mertis couldn't defeat Juno without risking the wraith of more magical girls. With that knowledge they stopped fighting to kill and began fighting less and less seriously to the point that they almost became games of magic tag of Juno trying to stop Mertis from causing trouble a night.

This closeness and sharing of hours eventually added up to the point where they learned of the other's secret identities and began helping one another out when off duty. Such as taking the other home after a fight or even sharing rooms when the other couldn't find a place to stay.

When separated and not fighting Mertis usually sends her Bat Latty along to spy on Juno so she could get early warning if Juno senses trouble from another monster or magical girl entering town, the arrival of the former being one of the few times they'll openly fight together on the same side, while the later being one of the few times Mertis will skip town.

Hello guys. I'm adding a new character to my story but I can't choose between personalities. My original plan was to have 5 teammates in the end: really shy girl(Elli), geeky girl(Aggi), hyperactive girl, calm and quiet girl and a tsundere. I've had a small argument in the last thread about this matter. It depents on the world you are in. Basically people will reason the situation to the point that they will not believe in paranormal. Also no one will recognise you without the suit unless they saw you actually transform. Just mop up the monster and gtfo. If you have incognito no one will be able to recall seeing you and if you don't they will imagine a runaway animal or a maniac with a flamethrower or whatever.

Magical Chief Firefighter Shannon

Str 4
Vit 4+1+2=7
Agi 4+2+1=7
Mag 4+1+2+2+4=13 (Silver, Gold)
Luck 4+2=6 (Silver)

16/2+6=Age 14

18= Uniform (+1 Vit)
15=Third Eye
17 (Silver to +2 Mag)
3=+2 Vit
6= Interdimensional Home
16= Enhanced transformation
20= Eternal Style

Shannon's defining trait is her ability to keep a cool head in a crisis- something that's helped her deal with things since her first encounter with a Puuchu. Quiet, calm, and a girl of few words, she tends to hang back and assess the situation before taking action. She doesn't work alone if she can help it- preferring to support other magical girls with magical torrents of water, cutting streams, and the occasional magical healing as needed. While she doesn't hunt full-time, she often volunteers to work with other, often newer magical girls and doesn't charge for her assistance.

Her magical gift means she's among the first members of her team to be transformed, but unless the situation's dire, she'll almost always wait for her partners to take the first shot at the monster. She doesn't like the idea of fighting monstergirls very much, and prefers to offer them a chance to leave peacefully- though events often make that impossible and she's gotten flak for making the offer to girls her coworkers considered dangerous. She tries not to take it personally, but the unnecessary fighting so common for magical girls is starting to really bother her.

>> No.39611313

Not what I originally had in mind when I saw the rolls, but this works surprisingly well. Maybe I will write stuff about her later.

Age: 11
About as underdeveloped as an 11 year old can get, I guess.

Through various circumstances Eni has taken up the very questionable job of "Back Alley Magical Doctor." Her policy is to not turn away a client, although none of acquaintances are sure whether that is because actually getting clients is fairly rare or out of some kind of budding altruism. All that is sure is that if you go to visit Eni chances are you'll be walking out both healthier and with a far lighter wallet.

CYOA states that people will actively ignore magical shenanigans, to the point of seeing it as a girl chasing a dog or something similar. Setting conceit we've more or less agreed on in thread is that there is an Overcity which is extradimensional, fucking weird, and connects many dimensions and planes. Think of it as a shifty, dangerous Coruscant-esque Sigil with no Lady of Pain keeping things orderly. If you want to have different levels of reality filters in place for normal folk, just set your fiction an Earth or two to the left.

Base level, there's no reason to wipe their memory as they will go, "That's weird" and then rationalize it away in less than 5 minutes.

Even if they see you, they could only recognise you in your transformed state, and are unable to connect your base identity with your transformed identity as per the CYOA's notes on outfits.

I lol'd. Added.

Added, moved Caroline into the serials section.

>connects many dimensions and planes

>> No.39612739

No. It's closer to Sigil, City of Doors.

It's an actual city, with individual parts of the city or doors linking dimensions, rather than a single point which contains all other points. It's overlaid, so some locations co-locate with alternate versions of themselves, so the same warehouse can be vacant, a magical girl home base, a monster lair and a destroyed ruin depending on the route you take to get to it.

>> No.39612758

I see it as more the city from "Don't rest your head".

>> No.39612905

The 'feel' of the city from DRYH is about right, but it has positive aspects as well as pure nightmare ones, and I don't think the mechanics of DRYH are right.

>> No.39613097

So the city is like Silent Hill, The Suffering and American Mcgee's Wonderland rolled into one ?

>> No.39613250

Thanks. Btw what do you think about it?

>> No.39614512

It's that, and also Corscucant, Sigil, the Nevernever, and my little ponies. I like to think that most of it is simply cityscape that is disconnected from reality. Yes, there are twisted areas that would align with a Silent Hill aesthetic and feel. There are also pure areas that are just idyllic and look like the surface bits of the city in Mirror's Edge. There's bad and good in equal measure, but unless you're sticking to the shallows and known routes, you could stumble into either, and looks alone aren't a signifier of whether a particular area is safe.

It's okay. I'm not terribly fond of journal format - I have a lot of memories of frustration while reading the original Dracula, and I feel like it both reduces tension and makes any emotional impact one step removed.

There's a fair number of grammatical errors, but I'm guessing this is because English is not your native tongue. You have some overlarge paragraphs that verge on walls of text. I also think you paced the story a little too fast for my taste. two weeks in or so and you're already chumming up to some people on the PRT? It doesn't feel like much of an adjustment period for you to grasp your powers or situation, but that's just my personal opinion, it's still a valid choice.

Overall it's not bad for amateur writefaggotry, but it's not really standout either.

Thanks for your opinion. Had to increase the story development speed a little bit to fit between "the reveal" and becoming an experienced MG. I basically want about 2-3 month worth of experience for Aggi before she enters "The City" so to get up to speed almost every day something important one way or another is going to happen. I guess it is almost normal for this situation because her life got filled up with events due to the transformation. Also not chumming PRT yet. This chehov gun will fire a lot later sometime in April.
About the format I actually chose it because I've recently encountered "stranded in fantasy" and it was one of the most awesome things I dug out from the bottomless depths of the internet. I've actually started slowly translating it. Not much progress though as I ran out of time.

This. This is also why I'm rewriting 1.4 because the confrontation with my wife was too sedate in the first draft.

Leaving aside all the magical shenanigans that may interfere with the reveal of your identity, what do you do if your wife/girlfriend is completely straight? If they want children? At the mildest level, this is like surprising your wife with a 'sorry, I need a sex change and got one without your permission. I still love you and want to be with you.'

If your girl switch-hits, or didn't want kids, they might be able to roll with it. If they want kids with you? That's likely gone. If they wanted to grow old with you til you were a wrinkly old man and woman? That's gone. If they enjoyed sex with you and don't want a fuck a woman, or worse, a child? That's gone too. Yeah, it's essentially the death of their husband/boyfriend.

Per the CYOA, a magical girl can ignore the Puchuu and her own internal drives and something...? happens. That's the closest to 'corrupted magical girls' outside of monster girls.

Take it from a married man - having an adult transformed and delivered to the house does not fulfill a great number of things that women like about babies and pregnancy.

Some women want to be pregnant. That's an experience that they want. They want to have a tiny wrinkled potato person and care for them. They want to watch them grow and learn about the world. And they want that tiny wrinkled potato person to be from the one they love.

There's zero emotional investment in a half or mostly grown child delivered to your doorstep, and it's a hell of an imposition when that's not something they agreed to take on, doubly so when they're no child at all and half your household income just went up in smoke.

I was thinking about how "after reveal" laws would regulate monster girls and found out that "Chaos" is not really specified. Right now it has no other purpose than to make monster girls randomly commit light crimes like vandalism. I think we should make chaos the actual reason for monsters to breach other worlds. Basically I suggest that chaos should be a field generated by human actions and thus chaos concentrations would appear in the areas with large amount of people. Chaos would weaken the boundaries between worlds and if enough of it gets concentrated all local chaos reserves get burned to teleport a monster in. That would explain the actual need of monstergirls other than being antagonists: they could force chaos concentrations to detonate in controlled fashion so they wouldn't warp in a monster inside someone's bathroom randomly. What do you think?

Noted. It is just a little bit weird because from what is stated in the 2nd CYOA page monster girls randomly feel like they should do something and it produces butterfly effects increasing chaos. Same thing with MGs but for them it works like monster radar so it's sort of okayish.

>> No.39624852

Well from what I can tell monster girls are technically magical girls with 2 specializations that are created if Punchuu fucks up while recruiting. They randomly commit acts of randomness to increase whatever chaos is and they are usually targeted by MGs that Punchuu sends randomly. That's pretty much what is stated in the OP post.

>> No.39624872

Nah every monster girl makes chaos. Fallen angels just make chaos when trying to help people so their "random action to add chaos" looks morally right.

Presumably the monster girls can do so too, ignoring the urges that trigger the butterfly effect. Except for the fallen angel I guess, because it seems hardwired right into the specialization.

>> No.39625124

>> No.39625209

I have a lovely little daughter. It's wonderful to hear her shout 'Daddy!' and scream-giggle while tottering at full speed toward me when I come home.

In the short term she wouldn't recognize me. I'm lucky that she's friendly and would probably still say 'hi' and not avoid me, but it'd be heart-rending to not be daddy anymore. She's young enough that it might not matter - she won't remember this age anyway. But it'd hurt.

Keep it vague. A large portion of the flavor of the CYOA as I read it is having a lack of knowledge or hard intel. If you want to pseudo-science it, don't present it as hard fact, have researchers arguing over it in the fiction, leave a few holes that their theory doesn't cover, keep it vague. Maybe they have a working theory that seems to cover all the bases and in fact it's spectacularly wrong.

Yes. I've mentioned the Overcity contains both monstergirl lairs and magical girl bases. Difference being that the Interdimensional Apartment is capital-S Safe. The Overcity very much isn't.

If you just co-opt an empty apartment in the Overcity, it's no more secure than a normal apartment, and the Overcity has a much, MUCH higher incidence of monsters, freaky shit, and actively hostile landscapes. Might find out that your new digs are co-locating with a monster lair - don't open the bathroom door at night or you'll end up in the drider nest. Keep all your windows shut because the clockwork beetles swarm during the day, and they'll infect your household appliances. Don't come in the back stairs, that's lets you into the third floor vampire club. Is that rumbling a train or a dire wyrm underfoot?

>> No.39625259

>So one can choose to create a house out of a tree that is situated in say, a monster infested grove or forest if she wants to ?

Yes, provided you know the route to get there, and either have an arrangement to keep the monsters off your back or actively work to clear them out and keep them gone.

The overcity works like a regular city - you can choose to live anywhere, provided you can claim the space and defend it, or rent it from someone. It's just that your address is going to be considerably more complex than:
>123 Drury Lane.

It'll be more like:

>123 Drury Lane, but only if you come down Baker's Drive from the north end, take the second alley past 6th Ave, and then cut through the broken gate and go down the left side of the house and use the side door.

If you know the route, you can get back to it, so it can potentially be used as a place to bed down. Keep it secure though.

>> No.39625283

1) Ouch that would be some depressing experience at first.
2) I'll present it with holes and as a theory. I mainly did it because I plan to recrut almost every MG and monstergirl in Moscow for "the reveal" and it would SUCK if MGs would get approved and monstergirls won't. Basically it is just a reason for the gov not to get rid of them by showing that they are useful.
3) The base in the overcity grants a huge advantage: you can stick more than 5 people in it. Perfect for big groups. Btw if I store a human in my interdimensional apartment can they leave on their own?

>> No.39625317

3) The base in the overcity grants a huge advantage: you can stick more than 5 people in it. Perfect for big groups. Btw if I store a human in my interdimensional apartment can they leave on their own?

You have to work for it though. It's not a perk, it's a thing you can do if you do the gruntwork to find an empty place, clear out the monsters and creepy crawlies, and then it's only as secure as you can make it, which with magic in the mix, isn't terribly secure. Only girls who could be reasonably counted on to secure it are high MAG, experienced Reinforcement specs. How many of those are in supply?

As for the pocket apartment, just be consistent about it. One person mentioned they're treating it as they have to use the door to any dwelling to enter it. Another is letting their girl teleport straight to it. I imagine the mechanics of the apartments are as varied as the powersets.

Memory Moths- These magical creatures are parasites of feeling and thought, and are attracted to intense emotions or gatherings of people. Strangely, and worryingly, they will preferentially target magical girls over normal humans when

Outside of the Overcity, they can only survive when exposed to direct moonlight, and soon wither or die if they are cut off from them. They appear to be massive, hand-sized moths, as their name suggests, with silvery, furred, powdery bodies, and "eye" patters on their wings whose coloration can be any human eye color, depending on their original host.

They reproduce by stealing the thoughts and memories of their host. A single memory moth brushing someone's hair can lead to a moment of forgetfulness. If the victim lingers, more and more moths will flutter around her like true moths attracted to a street lamp, taking more and more memories, thoughts, and emotions. In extreme cases, the luckless magical girls have been known to no longer remember anything other than their current situation, not even their own name. In cases of just a few memory moths, simply killing the moth and letting the victim breathe in the powder it leaves behind is enough to restore the lost memory. If a girl's fallen victim to a swarm, bringing as many of the swarm's bodies as can be found to a healer for preparation into a magical tea is the only reliable way to restore her lost memories.

Unscrupulous magical girls have been known to use memory moths as a tool to aid in assassinations of rivals or as a means of brainwashing, as they can quickly render even the most magically powerful girls helpless if they are caught unawares. They are less effective against girls and monsters of a more inhuman nature, and are rare outside the Overcity's deepest depths. There are stories of memory moths swarming in great clouds into the outside world during the full moon and solstice in the distant past, but few girls pay these stories much mind

I don't think either is particularly good for different reasons.

Breezy's is supposed to be optimized for play-by-post, folks have been critical of it for not being as hard-numbers as more robust play-by-post systems are. Breezy's primary defense is that he wants something bare bones for use on 4chan.

Derp Herp's is in construction and even some of the bones are missing. The direction he's building it looks nice for actual tabletop play, but I'm skeptical of it's use in play-by-post and on 4chan.

>> No.39648576

No. SCP logic: we found weird shit. Use "the box" rule of thumb and slap it into containment. Then either the thing pulls something out on its butt and shit happens so we modify the containment or we experiment for profit. Deep prisoner-guard relations are monitored and thus guards get rotated to prevent it(there are almost no dumbasses in SCP regarding containment)Also D class are death sentenced people and not interns.

>> No.39648600

That's a very romanticized version of SCP containment.

>> No.39648771

Well technically speaking breaches happen only when someone fucks up and it is either someone who planned the containment(overthought a teleport ability for a mug that made 2 people choke with their own refuse for example), if local security can't follow instructions(grew attached to SCP for example but they are usually caught before they mess up) or if keter(you can't contain some things reliably) or if someone else(Chaos, GOC, MKiD or someone else) starts rampaging.

Well in two (out of the three) cases it was attempted on the Power Puff Girls it was either to limit the (perceived) negative influence they had on their peers (other children seeking to imitate them) or to limit the amount of collateral damage (such as destroying a bridge that was considered a relic).

I suspect that any laws governing Magical Girls are going to look less like the Registration Act or the Superhero Relocation Program and more like the Unseelie Accords or Laws of Magic from the Dresden Files.

Less 'legislation' and more 'loose treaty between magical factions' or 'basic function of magic.' Also, completely invisible until your budding magical wrecking ball runs afoul of them, and Puchuu probably won't even warn them unless it would muck up their greater plans.

Basically a Triumvirate of Magical Girl's place a sanction or order permitting other Magical Girls to hunt down one of their number that has (for whatever reason) started exhibiting overly malign behavior such as going out of their way to cause destruction or doing anything that is deemed a threat.

So, funny thought. Do you think different specializations use different mechanisms for their die-6 powers?
For example, Third Eye. It's easy to see how, say, Mental or Psychic would do it, but what about the likes of Reinforcement? How do you get always-on detection like that from temporary buffs and barriers?
I suspect they're ripping off Kakyoin and scattering a huge number of really weak micro-barriers that get knocked aside by normies, and broken by anything magical. When they feel the barriers break, they know where the magic thing is.

1)Why the hell should hammerspace give vit? It is a huge tactical advantage. It can be as op as a batman's belt if outfitted properly.
3,5) I agree but I think it works well as it is
4) why?
6) too op
7) fine but not needed at all
8) probably yes
9) you already have a rule for them so not a great idea

>> No.39671247

1. Mostly a filler idea, no real need to add it anyway, unless you could use hammer space to throw stuff in the way of attacks.

3. Focused attack is basically a killing blow that doesn't kill, it's a massive attack that drains energy from the user, it makes sense to have the same power up ability.

4. Depending on what you used for the barrage it would require some quick agility, either closing in on melee and attacking very fast, shooting very fast, chain casting a bunch of spells at once, or delivering a whole bunch of scattered punches and kicks, that requires speed.

6. Again see hammer space, I agree it's OP as it is.

7. It fits the ability greatly and there's few enough bonuses to luck as it is. Besides Luck is most likely the least important stat as it is.

8. This fits as well.

9. Mostly a filler idea, it's pretty powerful enough as it is because it pretty much gives a person a second weapon.

>> No.39671308

And can't see it as being personal. We're throwing out ideas and seeing what would or would not work, that requires criticism.

For gun owners and magic users that could work, but if you're carrying around a Sword or you fight by punching your way through you can't do that from cover.

C'mon man.

Why do the abilities need to give stats? The only reason Killing Blow gives a stat point is because it leaves you horribly vulnerable after use and isn't autohit. Killing Blow would be a suckers choice otherwise.

In addition, this makes Focused Attack clearly better than Killing Blow, since its an up-gunned normal attack that can be repeated and doesn't leave you wide open after use.

>> No.39674978

Actually, killing blow is arguably already OP thanks to the one hit KO- and might be the best talent even without the bonus.

>> No.39675543

>A devastatingly powerful attack where a direct hit will defeat the typical opponents you encounter unless they vastly outclass you. This attack is also horribly tiring and will leave you barely able to stand after it has been performed. Can be dodged.

Has to hit directly to be a one-shot battle-ender. Can be dodged, will leave you horrifically vulnerable. If you're on a team with someone or multiple someones who can help hem an enemy in so they can't dodge, and help you pull out if you miss/monster reinforcements arrive, it's great. As a solo girl it's awful, as even a partially successful dodge means the fight likely isn't over yet and you'll be dead on your feet. Also, better hope there's no other enemies you can't see/won't be ambushed on your way back from the battle.

>> No.39675883

I would assume that you can't use focused attack or barrage more than once or twice a battle.

>> No.39675978

Found this:

Maybe good for NPCs

>> No.39676012

On the other hand, for any given battle, it makes the girl extremely dangerous, especially if she uses it intelligently or as a trump card. I'd still say it's better than focused attack on a fight by fight basis even if as a solo overall it's probably slightly less "useful". Fits a glass cannon playstyle best.

>> No.39676923

I figure you can use Focused Attack or Barrage as often as you have the mana/stamina for it, though there's probably some slight recovery time on it. Breezy's rules give Killing Blow a 5-round charge time and Focused Assault/Barrage 2-round cooldowns.

Point, but if the girl doesn't use the attack and mostly uses the threat of the killing blow, then it's of limited utility compared to basically every other power there. Even Focused Attack and Barrage can probably be used more often.

>> No.39677218

Well, true but spamming focused attack is a good way to get yourself drained without the OP pls nerf oneshot power of Killing Blow, and barrage is "kill trash mobs, the power".

Killing Blow IS situational, and there might be times when it doesn't get used but I honestly see it as better than Focused Attack or Barrage even if I wouldn't spend the coins to get it specifically unless I'm going for a pure glass cannon build.

>> No.39677386

I spent the coin on it (and later the points on it) because 1) I wanted the bonus stat point
2) I had rolled Allies
3) I had Regen so I figured that even if someone got a dodge and catastrophic post-KB hit in, I might survive.

I tend to play things cautiously, so perhaps I'm undervaluing KB.

>> No.39677767
