yeah I sort of pride myself on having enough toilets on stuff I do plans for :)
It was quite a mean piece of work too that ship, speedy, turned badly but a lot of firepower and good sensors.

Here's sort of simple plan for an A24, which was one of my favourites and a real challenge to figure out 'how' to squeeze that much gear into such a little ship.
So there was quite a bit of looking into how to layout of an RV/caravan for inspiration.

Who could possibly like cut-price Victories

>> No.38786747

Yeah, corvettes are capital ships. They're just the smallest class of capital ships. I still have a little bit of trouble telling what they're actually used for. Most don't have enough point-defense guns to really be anti-starfighter ships. They don't have the guns, armor, or shielding to be particularly useful against larger capital ships. Maybe they're used to fend off light freighter-sized gunships, but they seem like an awfully big investment for that.

Best I can figure is they're used as picket ships, scouts at the outer edges of a fleet to spot enemy ships early on. Their good speed would let them get back to the rest of the fleet before the enemy arrives in force. If that's their role, they should probably have top-of-the-line sensors and communication equipment.

>> No.38786911

Yeah, but Venators were still reasonable battleships, on top of their capabilities as a carrier. At least they aren't ImpStars.

>> No.38787158

They had 10 or so big turbos, 50 of point defence guns and a couple of torpedo tubes, but that's not a lot compared to say even a Victory I & II which had double that.
But not 420 starfighters, that's a heck of a lot of small ship firepower.

>> No.38787397

They're just big enough to be considered capital ships.

Corvettes, depending on the model, are picket ships, system defenders, convoy escorts, blockade runners or transports/carriers.

CR90s are known for being fantastic at pushing through blockades and being easy to modify and repair, hence the rebels' love for them. They're basically heavy, fast and decently armed freighters.

FFG just announced the second wave of expansions for Imperial Assault, and I'm thrilled. "Twin Shadows" mini campaign, set on Tatooine. Because it isn't Star Wars if they don't go to Tatooine.

So far we know there will be Tusken Raiders and Heavy Stormtroopers (pic related) in the main box, plus two new heroes, several tiles, missions for a campaign, and 2 skirmish missions. Boba Fett, R2-D2, C-3PO, and an OC Stormtrooper commander as individual expansion packs.

And I still don't have my hands on the first wave of expansions. Thanks a lot, west coast longshoremen.

I have a question: my group has decided to play only Star Wars games in May, and I'm toying with the idea of making a one-shot/micro-campaign focused on a Tie Fighter squadron.

My big idea is to make the squadron full of infighting. The way I see it, the Empire is *not* a well-oiled, efficient, warmachine, but a vastly inefficient bureaucratic mess of social positioning, petty power plays and ambition, barely held together not by loyalty but by fear. So I want to give the players lots of excuses for paranoia style intrigue and backstabbing. Any ideas? I already have rebel spy vs secret police and human supremacist vs alien who have risen through the ranks. What else can I do?

>> No.38788207

>TIE Fighter squadron
Oh, they'll be one-shotted, alright.

You could take a page from the pre-Baron Fel 181st and fill the unit with idiots, misfits, malcontents, and political undesirables under a lazy, apathetic commander. The lax discipline among the ranks would inevitably result in hedonism, ass-kissing, and disobedience.

Additionally, a lot of TIE pilots are already conditioned to be hyper-aggressive and bloodthirsty, according to Lara Notsil's narration in the Wraith Squadron books.

Another source of infighting could come from differing loyalties. Some might be loyal to a particularly honorable unit commander, others might criticize that commander for disobeying orders (even if those orders are, say, to shoot up civilians), and still others might want to defect to the Rebellion.

Also, I was expecting/hoping for more of an underworld thing for wave 2. With Black Sun or one of the Hutts as the big villain, instead of some Stormtrooper officer.

Keep in mind most of the time the Empire isn't fighting Rebels. Up untill Yavin it's pretty much busy putting down pirates and keeping insystem fighting to a minimum by squashing both sides to a pulp. In such scenarios you are basicly using TIE fighters against cobbled together pieceashits with parts that are twenty to fifty to hundreds of years old. A TIE fighter is perfect at its main job: shitting on unorganized enemies.

Bioweapons are rarely used (2 instances I can recall offhand) probably for the obvious reasons of uncontrolled mutation and spread. Plus with the variety of species, finding an effective one that doesn't make everyone else in the galaxy hate you is hard.

A... hang on... what are they called?... Dark Side Adepts? or more-likely just another Inquisitor. since the party IS trying to keep a large collection of Sith artifacts and terror-weapons from falling into Imperial hands.

the guy IS based on (pic.) as an ex-padawan, he already had severe PTSD and "cannibalistic tendencies" even before being sent to Byss for "retraining" in the dark side. He survived order 66 only because he was locked-up in an asylum during the purge.

still wears his Jedi master's skull as a helmet, he becomes incredibly violent when attempts to remove it are made

But, I'm thinking of not implementing this character for 2 reasons in particular:

1. not sure the grim tones fit into the Star Wars universe...

2. As there are no force-users in the group and this is their first adventure, I'm thinking the character may be too dangerous for the party to deal with. (like throwing an adult dragon at a party of lvl 3 adventurers in 3.5/PF)

Honestly, I think you are giving the age of the fans too much credit. Now I admit that I haven't read the EU, and quite frankly I'm glad the canon reboot happened so I don't have to, so I can't speak for Luke's character in the novels. Ahsoka was an incredibly well done character in TCW. Sure, she started off kind of rocky, but as the series went on, they worked out the kinks, and we ended up with a character that, in my view, really added a lot to the universe by better developing Anakin's fall to the dark side.

Besides, Star Wars is a universe where a three-eyed fellow unironically bids his coworkers Dark Greetings. One of said coworkers wears blaster earrings. Bitchy, emo kid who can't commit, pilots super robot along with three hot women of young pre pubescent or shortly after age. Save the world because no adult can. It hits the demographic of the intended audience just like ahsoka was written to. Most anime is one of about three molds with new names, same characters and plot.

Unfortunately manchilds with the emotional maturity of the target audience also connect. There's a reason why middle schoolers and older are laughed at in Japan if they still watch anime. To some extend the same in Korea, although One Piece gets some leeway here in worst Korea. It's series like One Piece, Dragonball, Naruto, and Bleach that drug on for over a decade and people had to grow up and keep reading to see the story... Those are the reason more sensible older people are still into manga and anime.

Granted there are a few good ones with new ideas occasionally. Steins Gate was a more resent one that was inventive in it's plot and well animated. People well swear Attack on Titan or the resent .hack//sign copycat are inventive, but they're just kids with weapons saving world again.

These are the people that thought making a 4 dice one shot weapon cost a third the points of a whole new ship was perfectly fair.

>> No.38815253

They have the license to everything, they just specifically called out Episode 7 to draw hype.

Like one of the writers specifically said that one of the reasons they haven't included VCX-100 in the RPG yet is because they weren't given information on it until way later from the show makers.

Alright, I'm sold on Aftermath.
Not so sure about the four new ones. (Han & Chewie book, Leia book, another Luke book, and a Romeo & Juliet type book about pilots during the Rebellion) all YA and they all come out the same day, yes even Aftermath.

From forth the fatal ranks of these two foes,
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life...

Well, start on the SF publishing track with some Not-Star Wars or whatever. You'll want to start with entry level SF magazines.
You're not going to get paid at first, or very much at all. At 8 to 10 cents a word with a maximum of around 8000, you better be a writing MACHINE. And those are TOP TIER prices. But still, get your work out there, get it published, create some buzz.
Eventually someone might say 'hey, this guy is good, let's give him a book deal' and then you'll do a book, promote your book, maybe get another deal and another. And then, maybe eventually you get approached by a man in a nondescript orange suit with helmet hair and he'll tell you that nothing you hear leaves this room....
As for man-on-starfighter...... fuck I dunno, SOMEONE will read it.
Also, protip; don't expect to make buko bucks on it, rich authors are exceptions

Gotta start somewhere. Instead of fan fiction call it manuscripts. Then, if you're good enough, or even if you aren't, submit it to all kinds of people.

Just have some quirky quirk like "I'm too poor to photocopy it, so I just typed out this 500 page manuscript on my type writer every time. I've submitted countless applications to different publishers."

Or " machines fail, so I use a type writer to bang out all my ideas! Cloud, sub, portable hd, and computer backups can all fail at the same time when skynet takes over. Then I'll have the only working copy of my work! "

I've personally heard two writers say that shit, no it hasn't worked for them

I just have a hardcopy of my work because a) can't hack paper, bitches and b) none of my big projects that I typed excusivly ever went anywhere. Meanwhile, I've got a project that I'd say is maybe 1/3 done and might end up novel-length is doing just fine with my pencil and paper.
Blah blah blah, writing engages the brain differently than typing or some other pseudo-science bullshit
As entry-level as being hired as a nuclear physicist while only having a GED. I'd bet my last credit that they only take submissions from established writers.
Think smaller and less... well-circulated.

Author, artist... People go in debt going to school for those professions only to live a life of starvation and depression.

Then you've got a twilight fan fic like 50 Shades of Grey where the author goggles bdsm and writes a story based on a brief understanding of some pictures rather than actual knowledge of it. They get several book deals and a movie.
Or an elephant pants something and makes millions.
Or a toodler scribbles something, a promoter lies about it and hypes it, people buy it thinking it's impressionist.

I find it amusing yet confusing that the CF-9 has this weird inverted S-foil thing and useless rear gun that are branded as revolutionary, despite the existence of the X-Wing-like X-83, as both ships are made by Incom.

The fact that the Rogues chose the CF-9 is proof that a)Legacy a shit and b)Rogues without an Antilles nearby a shit.
