Interesting how the next movie will be called Rogue One. I wonder if this will affect the X-Wing miniatures game. Maybe they'll rename it Rogue Squadron or something.

>> No.38668108

So anyone got any good greentext from their sessions? I'm looking to get into AoR, and I want to read about some of the shenanigans and such that can happen.

>> No.38668694

>Try to run the basic back of the book adventure since I lost my EotE starter set.
>Kept flubbing lines and then trying to re-organize the basic plot that helps people run through most of the rules (Though not as well as the actual starter sets)

specifics may be hard for me due to a scattered memory but...

oh, and forgive my lack of use of the green text...

let's see, the party consisted of:

>1 hotshot pilot from Alderaan
>1 ex-bounty hunter from Kessel
>1 mechanic from Taloraan

they were supposed to go to Kuat in a appropriated lambda shuttle and make contact with a mole within the company who claimed to have important Intel. well, they get there, have to bribe their way onto the station. ask corporate security where to find holo ID's so to get to meet-up, contact tells them the empire is converting 3 ISDs into science ships, but doesn't know why. Pilot manages to talk his way onto one IDS, get to computer core, mechanic tries to slice into the ship computer core to find the crew's mission, fails (and trips security) 3 times ( the pilot managed to talk the ship security into disregarding the security breaches) mechanic gives up and rips the memory core out of the terminal and takes that, welds up the terminal and they try to book it to the air lock. just short of the air-lock linking the ISD to the station, alarms go off, running gun battle, Naval security fires point-blank at the Bounty hunter, and miss every shot. pilot is injured but they get to the station and Mechanic welds the door shut. they choose to scatter and make for the hangar through various separate ways, don't get far before a general alert goes out and their faces get plastered on every screen in the station. bounty hunter fires wildly to cause a panic and escapes. Pilot tries to take a hostage, but the hostage gets free and runs off, so the pilot starts booking it with corporate security on his ass the whole way. The mechanic slips into the crowd and sneaks his way there. pitched battle in front of hangar. get to ship.

Probably a longshot but does anyone have a full and undivided version of the galaxy map from FFG's rpgs? Even the best scans seem to cut out a bit towards the very center.

>> No.38669247

>>38669090
Just as soon as they get into the shuttle, the station security detonates the explosive bolts holding the hangar to the station are detonated and the whole hangar goes tumbling into the atmosphere. the Pilot uses the hangar's tumbling motion to catapult the shuttle out of the hangar at accelerated speeds. there is a brief dogfight with a lone TIE but they escape...

to find that their Protocol droid allowed crews onto the ship to remove dummy freight (and after a through search it was discovered that they also left not one, but three tracking devices under the floor-panels). Now mechanic has to deactivate these things and ditch them on random planet. reach chardaan and deliver data to rebel courier. and recover a bit before having to find related coordinates in a jedi shrine on Delaya, oh joy...

Did I mention the battle of Yavin had only happened a year prior to this?

Here's the thing: when CGI is good, you don't notice it.

The problem with CGI is twofold:
1: It can make directors lazy and instead of getting great shots they just want to fix it in post.
2: The current contract system seriously fucks any VFX studio that isn't part of the major studio like Weta. They have to bid on getting the job, have a fixed cost limit, and often have to decide between staying under budget or delivering great work. This is a CGI tiger, and the studio that made it went bankrupt while the film has pulled in $609Mil on a $120mil budget.

What's a good, simple, Star Wars system? My friends and I are all college students so we don't have too much time to spend flipping through rulebooks, and I wanna GM something. Most of them have played DnD 3.5 before, and I have some experience with the 40k FFG RPGs, so one similar in ruleset to either of those should work. I'm not too picky on the era they're set in, and I don't think any of them will mind if there's Jedi or not, so yeah I'm pretty open.

Just wanna do a Star Wars game, especially after I just started watching the Clone Wars.

I finally have the X-Wing remake for XWA uploaded.

Sorry for taking so long on this but we had to work out some bugs that popped up, some of which were critical (like Death Star at the end showing up as Sovereign SSD and Katana Dreadnaughts...), mostly due to changes introduced in GOG version of the game and the updated Darksaber Craft Pack.

This remake includes the entirety of X-Wing as well as the Rebel portion of X-Wing vs TIE Fighter.

https://mega.co.nz/#F!QUYUFB4C!OIyaA6k3rfZBtJW56c3ToA

Install order:
1. X-Wing Alliance (GOG)
2. DarkSaber's Ultimate Craft Pack 2.2
3. X-Wing Conversion (XWC aka the remake)
Make sure to select the No-CD patch when installing DSUCP 2.2, even with GOG version it's mandatory for the briefing voice files to work.
It's recommended to leave other DSUCP settings at their default values, but personally I recommend installing the 19km version of Executor rather than the 17.6km version.
I also recommend red lasers option for Slave I (default is green).
Everything else is purely personal preference.
After installing DSUCP, go to your XWA directory/Wave and remove the entire "Frontend" folder. This will prevent from XWA briefing files that don't get replaced from playing in the remake. That's because X-Wing and XvT have less briefing dialogue voices than XWA.
After that copy everything >>>EXCEPT FOR XWINGALLIANCE.EXE<<< from XWC4.0/Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance folder into your XWA with DSUCP directory and overwrite when asked.
Then you can start playing the remake.
You >>>MUST<<< use the included Pilot files for missions to work properly.
To play X-Wing, load the XWC profile.
For XvT Rebels, load XvT profile.

You >NEED< a clean install for this to work, consult readme for more intrsuctions.

Pic unrelated.

Ask me anything if you have questions.

Oh and some more tips regarding installing this.
In DSUCP installer make sure to select Nvidia Font Fix if you have Nvidia card.
Additionally when asked for cockpit resolution, pick closest one to your vertical resolution.
For example if you have 1920x1080, then you want the 1280x1024 cockpits, as 1600x1200 (vertical being key here) would result in cockpits being cut off on bottom.
To use custom resolutions (like widescreen), you will need to use xwahacker, which is included in the XWC package, just run changeres.bat, pick the resolution you want to overwrite and then input your custom resolution.
It's the only way to play in widescreen.

In case you can't see the X-Wing and XvT cutscenes (get only audio with black screen during them) you lack proper codecs. The solution is to install KMPlayer (comes with necessary codecs) or re-convert the .avi files in "movies" directory with a codec your system supports.

My friend from Taiwan who made these remakes is currently working on updating the TIE Fighter remake and the Imperial part of XvT Remake. A lot of work went into this so I hope you guys enjoy it.
We will try to implement the remastered version of original iMuse soundtrack for TIE Fighter remake as well. For those that don't know, TIE Fighter (and only this game) had original music compositions made specially for it in the original two DOS versions (original and TIE95). That music was later replaced with Original Trilogy music in the TIE98 version.
Some indie composer guy 2 years back or so recreated the original TIE Fighter music from scratch using synth orchestra. We will try to implement it in the updated version of the remake.

Correct, it's the Shadow Hand GC.
Am I the only one who feels that Thrawn's Revenge despite being amazing missed some opportunities?
Namely it's still missing GCW Ep4-Ep6 GC scenario (though I guess it's because they'd need to create new factions, Empire and Rebels, specially for it).
As well as completely lacks some units like Dark Troopers, Eclipse II, some Calamari ships.
And finally, has no Underworld factions.
The engine has perfect mechanics for it added in FoC, so I really don't understand why didn't they just make a Black Sun faction.
The fact that the mod has now been abandoned in favor of making a shitty port of it to Sins is even worse, especially since Sins has no ground battles, no events, worse "galaxy" mechanics for Star Wars setting, no support for neutral/unplayable factions and the list just goes on.
I just don't understand why did they decide to move to Sins.
They are going to release one final update to TR in form of 2.2 but that's going to be it, they're abandoning it afterwards.

I'll try to make an expansion submod for TR once they officially release final version and announce they're done with it with the goal of adding Empire, Rebels and Black Sun as factions, as well as replacing some of the shittier models and stuff with better ones. The Lucrehulk model in the mod right now is absolute dogshit for example, especially compared to RaW's model.

>> No.38678675

TR's moddb page, news section, many times.
They don't want to work on EaW anymore because they're apparently bored with it and like Sins gameplay more.
They've only got 1 guy still working on TR, everyone else in the team already moved onto Ascendancy (their Sins mod).
Also I've known one of the devs since 2006 (and still have him on Steam) when I got into EaW modding myself and worked with him in the past. I'm not entirely sure on this but I believe the TIE Hunter model used in TR is mine, or based on my model of it for JK3 at least.

Money. LotR made a several metric shittons, so they forced Jackson to make The Hobbit.

The main reason The Hobbit was multiple movies was because narrative it's 50 different events of them getting into and out of shit and back into shit right away. There was a lot of LotR that could be simplified or cut without removing any major events. Except Tom Bombadil.

has anyone run a campaign using knight level play? It seems like if you have a mixed party (non force using and force using) the non force sensitives will be really tricked out in capability, especially with the gear, whereas the force sensitives will be spread thin.

They're nowhere near as terrible a creature as in the D6 or D20 types of games.
Really depends 'how' they build up their force sensitive, you can just dump into powers and do a couple of things, drag out the lightbats and beats some arse or you can use the powers to augment physical skills and so on.
Its actually relatively balanced in that sense, non-sensitives have whackloads of talents, skills to keep up with the more mundane challenges.

At the moment I'm penning down some notes for a knight level game where it'll just be Jedi padawans running around getting into mischief.
Conditions are they take 2 careers from the start to reflect a high level of academic training- 1 lightsabre combat and 1 supplemental. From there they do what they want, it also pays to be pretty strict but fair with the Morality rules

At the start they'll do a few bits and pieces, finding their crystals then making their lightsabres, maybe getting into trouble on Coruscant and its around 5-6 years before the Clone wars starts.
Their masters, have become roped into the Outbound Flight, so they'll be taking their padawans along to go exploring the unknown regions-
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Outbound_Flight_Project

At some point early on in the journey, this doesn't end well!
Probably figuring that they'll get packed into a lifeboat and shot off into the void, life support systems will put them into stasis and they'll wake up around 10-15 years later. In a galaxy just barely recovering from a massive war and under the rise of the Empire as it enters its darkest phase of domination.
Think they'll probably have a holocron to share between them, their lightbats and each other. So aiming for a very 'team' based good guys game of maintaining high ideals. I've made it very clear from the start, there's the condition to me running it, that they're playing a hero- had enough of the morally grey, chaotic stupid, edgy faggotry and other various evils that I put up with in other games (which they've played a lot of!) and for some of our newer and younger players, they really do need to broaden their mindsets and expand their personal challenges of playing something that's very hard to do correctly.

It is implied Pellaeon had his own force sensitive advisors as early as the Vong Wars, whether those were naturals or trained is unclear. Suffice it to say she will mostly be drawing on people from the marginally enlarged post vong war Remnant population, along with a cadre of Ascendancy exchange students, as that is something that would work much better for the chiss, since they are closer to the remnant physically and politically, and the chiss/empire of hand have been wanting an academy of their own for some time.

So basicly, Imperial remnant native population, chiss exchange student and some refugees. And quite possibly, a really old, retired Inquisitioner.

Jaina would probably been seen as something of a traitor in the galactic community at large and especially within the jedi community, giving her knowledge up to create a new order that isn't even about the light side so much as it is about authoritarian rule. Or that's how it would look like.

The first edition is very loose, rules-wise. It's more of a narrative system than a combat slog, and the elegance to it is really quite striking from a design perspective. Force powers for instance are notably organic and mostly left up to the DM as for how to adjudicate their use, many don't even describe any kind of mechanical benefit. There aren't a lot of mechanics and exceptions to remember, but that could be seen as a downside to a group that's used to more modern games.

The second edition (Always go for the revised and expanded version, not the blue book) is great in that you get a lot more rules in the core to deal with things like vehicle scales or cover. Basic systems like movement and dodging make a lot more sense, and force powers are much more 'game-y', often giving clear, delineated instructions on what each power does.

My group personally prefers the second edition, but we're a bunch of grognards who love having more numbers to play with.

I'd been pretty excited to play it for a while, and have just tried to play the Tutorial game and... either we're not doing something right, or it just doesn't feel that balanced.

Without four heroes, to physically block the corridors and cost extra movement (and even then, they can't fully prevent people getting past), it just seems too easy for the Imperials to make a dash for a terminal and win.
Is there something we're missing, like a D&D "Attack of Opportunity" when a Stormtrooper tries to squeeze past a ferocious Wookiee without getting mauled? Or is this just a quirk of the small board size on the tutorial map?

2: When is Force and Destiny coming out? I can't really find a solid answer through Google/FF other than "probably this spring"

3: Are there any big -to know- things I should know before making a character? E.g. things I might not immediately consider or are much more important than their face value? I'm not trying to break a character, just avoid any avoidable pitfalls. 1) They all use the same mechanics for building characters and gameplay. Each game line has its own unique careers, shared resource, and karma meter, but those are all cross-compatible. Generally you stick with one book's character generation rules, then use whatever careers, morality meters, equipment, and so on you like in-game.

2) FFG's tight-lipped about things when they don't have all their Is dotted and their Ts crossed. The latest we'll likely see the product is Gencon. You can get the beta book from the links in the OP, and beta updates from FFG's site. It's likely to be rather close to what we get in the official release.

3) Your friend is half-correct. During chargen, you can spend your starting XP total on raising stats, and this is the only time you can do so. However, almost every specialization tree has the Dedication talent, which lets you increase a stat by 1 to a max of 6. For this reason, most peeps choose to put as much XP into their stats as they can during chargen, and the rest into skills or talents. Picking a race that has a natural 3 or a 4 in a specialization's most important stats (eg, a Drall's natural 4 Intelligence is great for Engineers, or a Wookiee's natural 3 in Brawn for a Marauder) is a strong move. You can also get increased stats through cyberware or bonuses to stats from equipment, but both are expensive.

My idea is a pragmatic jedi who uses blasters more often because they have more uses (range, just as good if not better against normals, lightsabers don't have a stun setting). >As a newbie DM how do you keep players motivated?

Depends on both your players and the characters they're portraying. Figure out what people want out of the game, and give it to them. Like for instance, I know one of my players wants opportunities for personal advancement, to become more powerful and respected. As long as I provide them with those opportunities, I'm good.

>What are good session/ark/campaign rewards?

XP-wise, I like the 5xp per hour of meaningful RP/play. So if you play for 4 hours but goof off for one of them, then give 'em all 15 xp plus more based on their Motivation. Ending a story arc could easily add 5-15xp, depending on the length and complexity of the story.

Credits-wise, your standard blue milk run is about 10k for someone who owns their own ship. Obviously, add more credits based on any additional work and / or dangers they face, plus any Negotiation checks they want to make. Bounty work can be anything from 750 cred for a small-time job to 500k for the heads of powerful crime organizations.

>What is a balanced team look like?

Depends on the story you want to tell. You'll have different archetypes in a cloak-and-dagger Rebellion game right under the Emp's nose than you will with freebooters and spacers making their way around the Outer Rim.

Honestly, let the players make the characters they want to make, and tell the story that caters to their strengths and weaknesses. If someone makes an Explorer/Archaeologist, then they want the uncharted frontiers of the galaxy to have an important role, especially lost civilizations and ancient ruins. If someone makes an Ace/Pilot, then they want high-flying dogfighting action to be important.

This isn't a regimented "Kill 50 womp rats to gain a level" game. Think more open-form, more narratively. Rewards come from completing stories, not blasting stormies.

>Is it a good Idea to limit the number of force sensitives in a group?

That's up to them, and talk to them about it.

Where does it all say what your character starts with? Because all I can find is that you star with 500 credits worth of stuff and you can choose to start with 2000 or 1000 more but less beginning xp.

The thing is is that seems...prohibitively little to start with. Am I missing something? Like say you don't want to start out with extra money you can afford your blaster...and that's really it maybe a comlink as well

It seems especially weird for jedi in Force and Destiny as lightsabers are MONSTROUSLY expensive and it seems weird that you can't start with one given you can start the game as very focused on lightsaber use

The game assumes that you'll start with the PCs doing "just met in a bar and got a job" run to actually get their ship and any extra starting gear they pick up along the way. Even the beginner adventure for EotE has them acquiring a ship at the end, along with a decent stash of weapons throughout the adventure. Nothing fancy, but enough to get their feet under them

So was I? The government of the United States would make an inquiry into a private citizen building a new type of hyper-efficient energy source to power a suit of armor and then flying it into war-zones to kill people with missiles, death-darts, and propulsion devices. And miniature arc-reactors would change daily life as we know it.
But no, he just wanted it for Hydra. Because only Tony Stark can responsibly use miniature arc-reactors and power armor (to kill people for vigilante justice).

There's one potential upside to the canon reset, game developers might finally start taking some storytelling risks and put stories in their own continuities a la the arkham series instead of having to justify their existence in their main "continuity." That way you could have that thinly veiled metal gear game, or a game where you play as an admiral stomping out the rebellion, or a game where it's up to you to maneuver your way to the top and execute order 66.

Another attempt at a Bounty Hunter simulator along with REBEL COMMANDO!
Rebel Commando wouldn't have to be an FPS. In fact, it'd be better if it shied away from those tropes. Maybe something like Sniper Elite where you're a one-man team, or a small group of people up against the vastly superior Imperial Army. Mostly stealth missions or desperate missions to [destroy/capture/recover] the [prototype TIE/prototype superweapon/the Death Star plans/the staff and equipment of a downed medical frigate].

Never played it, but I looked it up. That'd be interesting to futz around with.
But now I have another idea for a Commando story (aka, what I kind of hoped Star Wars Rebels WOULD be about)
>"Have you ever heard of the Siege of Cardath III? Not many people have, I guess."
>"Well, I say 'siege' but what really happened was we had an underground base on the planet and then the Imps built a garrison right on top of it. They didn't know it and we didn't dare tip them off by calling for supplies or aid."
>"Instead, we did something even more daring; we dug our way up to electrical wiring and hacked into their system. Then we started modifying requisition orders so that the base would have a surplus while at the same time keeping this new influx of material off the quartermaster's records."
>"When a shipment came in, we'd sneak up and steal what we'd ordered before inventory was taken and modify the outgoing reports."
>The soldier laughs.
>"The Empire was providing us with all the supplies we needed to survive and they never suspected a thing! Eventually, we managed to dig a new tunnel that led to the surface well beyond the garrison's sensor range. After requisitioning a few choice bits of material that the Alliance desperately needed, we skedaddled with the loot and booked a ship off planet without so much as a second look from the customs officer."
>"And that's the story of the Siege of Cardath III."
