Pinooks for X-wing minis when? I want to drown the board in shitty fighters.

>> No.33859563

Isn't that what Tie swarms are for?

>> No.33859622

The Pinook is even shittier. Its maneuverability is so shitty that even hitting a TIE fighter requires Wedge-tier luck or Force sensitivity. Its shields are only half those of the X-wing and its maximum atmospheric speed is 600 km/h. Contrast the TIE fighter's maximum atmo speed of 1200 km/h. Its hull rating is 14 RU to the TIE fighter's 15 RU.

In short, it's even shittier than the TIE fighter.

What would the stats even be like? 1 attack die, 1 defense die, 0 shields, 1 Hull, green straight 1, and then all the range 2 moves as red?

Well, it has shields canonically, so it should have one shield point. I'd love to see what sort of pilots FFG could stick onto a Pinook.

The Imps need something for Epic play. Unfortunately, the Imps don't have anything iconic at that scale - as much as I'd love to field a Lancer, Carrack, or Tartan, they're just too damn big. Pic related is the likely contender.

That really sounds more like the Rebel's bag, to be honest. I mean, that's basically what the Y-Wing and Dreadnaught-class ships are.

>> No.33860805

No, the rebels bag is looting leftover republic equipment and inheriting the CIS armada, the Imperial bag is using the ENTIRE republic armada, which they are the successor to, and the way the empire works, you put the shittiest gear the furthest away from the core, so the outer rim is last to get updated with new gear. Local garrisons have to improvise day to day.

And the Dreadnaughts are not an iconic rebel ship, they are an iconic Garm Bel Iblis ship

They could get a CR-90 but that's a ship that's more iconic to the rebels, even if the Empire uses more of them at any given time

>> No.33861842

Maybe they can pull out one of the earlier or later models in the series... but I guess it would still look too much like the Blockade runner.

Screw it, sell an Imperial version with a Tie included and a different paint job. Double the profit off the same mold.

>> No.33862258

the Gozanti cruiser with an imperial refit might be the closest thing, but that is based on how much of an impact Rebels has on the fanbase. As many people I am sure will watch it, it just doesn't the same reach as a movie, so it's hard to see it be iconic in the same way.

Hey I got a pretty dumb question. How many times do you let a PC try and attempt a skill check. Like for example say someone was going to slice a computer and fails and generates threat. Could I say 'Well it just seems unresponsive" and let them try again?

>> No.33868411

you slice the computer
the security program is activated
you get shut off

>> No.33868426

If he fails AND generates threat have him get counter-hacked or location located and have some enforces/stormtroopers/thugs of whoever hes hacking come and bust his face in for failing

>> No.33868577

I'd say increase the difficulty of any retries by X dice, where X is the number of threat points generated, in addition to setting off alarms and calling in guards. Let the slicer realize the futility of his work rather than just saying, "No".

>> No.33868626

yeah, then another player wanted to try and he also failed (one freaking purple dice) So I just said they couldn't get much further with it. But it got me thinking. Whats the point of having a skill roll if the player just says "I'll try again until finally the odds say I succeed" I mean I get it if there is a ladder, they slip, fall, take damage, then try climbing up again. Somehow I want to instill a "You can't just roll until you win" but not corner myself with 'Well none of you could do the task. Game over"

Like in DnD isn't there a thing you can only attempt a skill check once every hour or until conditions change?

>> No.33868785

You only make skill rolls for things where there is a risk of failure. Climbing a ladder does not fall under this area unless your player is crippled or they are being shot at at the same time

Yeah okay. I do like that idea. What they had to do is take some wookie pelts which just had horrible stench that added a setback die and put them in the airlock and jettison them midflight. It takes an easy computer skill. So one player rolls and gets one fortune. I say "The way the panel is laid out you can't understand how to make it jettison but you do form an airlock and cut off the smell" then another player says he wants to try but generates two threats. I say that the airlock holds but you notice the door is jammed and won't open properly. It doesn't seem likely you can jettison the contents now until you check what the blockage is.

I dunno I am willing to help them out and I know a GM shouldn't just say no but I wanted to check for suggestions for when and what to say when a players is trying over and over on something.

My final point to make after dumping and telling that little tale is, artists shouldn't just slap a lightsaber in a picture and call it Star Wars.

The Smuggler's Moon image would be so much better if there wasn't a saber in it. The droid and environment says star wars without the stupid saber activated behind her back.

The same with the Sith Imbecilous en Inferous. Did the Jedi or Vader/Sidious walk around with their sabers on all the time? NO! After you blow up a ship you don't stare off into the burning wreckage with your saber on. That saber ruins the image.

The rest of the images are ruined with the double bladed, dual wield or... whatever the first two would be. It's like someone looked up a PS tutorial on making lightsabers and put all their practice tries in one image.

This really is something that most people forget about Star Wars. Yes, the Force is essential to life and binds us all and guides the galaxy and so on and so forth, but there's trillions upon trillions of life forms out there that will never even have the barest hint of exposure to the Jedi, Sith, or any other Force-based philosophy. Look at Wedge Antilles, Han Solo, Gilead Pelleaon, Lando Calrissian, Garm Bel Iblis, Mon Mothma, Jabba the Hutt, and countless others. There's more ways to influence the galaxy and have a role to play than to pick up a frozen blaster blade and start waving your hands around like a silly person, despite what ToR and TCW would tell you.

So last night went....interesting. The Asshole gunslinger pretty much made an enemy of the entire party. First thing he does when released from his binder cuffs and get his weapon is point it at the Doctor Droid. The Wookiee wasn't having any of this and drew his Vibro-Axe. He went off in search for Ryll once he figured he's not going to kill the droid (he's addicted to Ryll, and we're just playing it like a heroin Junkie so far, until I find out what Ryll actually does.) Party is looking around an office, and Asslinger blows up a story important computer, then later decides to get drunk. Nom Anor and a human buddy actually do exactly this in the first NJO book, except they stick the warhead in a Not!Apollo capsule and sent it aboard a Mon Cal battlecruiser during a "peace conference" between his crazed anti-tech cult and the system authorities. IIRC the effects are described as "inflicting heavy damage on the ship but the Meditator ceasing its spin and slowly coming under control again." This was from INSIDE the ship, so one on the shields would probably do exactly jack shit.

And upon looking at Wikipedia, apparently X-wing says that setting a nuclear charge off in the hangar of a Imp Star will completely destroy it...

How far out from a ship do shields usually extend?

Besides, a physical projectile like a missile can penetrate shields.

>> No.33870963

>Besides, a physical projectile like a missile can penetrate shields.

There are literally an entire category of shields that exist entirely to stop missiles, asteroids, debris and other ballistic projectiles from hitting a target, despite what Empire at War or other video games wants you to believe. They're called particle shielding. You know, that whole plot point in the first movie about how the exhaust shaft was ray shielded so they'd need to use proton torpedoes?

As for how far out they extend, I'd guess that probably depends on both the class of ship and its size. A star fighter probably has a more or less skintight envelope, while something like a capital ship might have its shielding extend several meters.

>> No.33871035

Depends on the yield and placement.

How big was the Mon Cal Battlecruiser? We talking a Star Defender here?

I think the X-wing books mentioned 20 meters from either the cockpit or the nose of the fighter, I think the cockpit makes more sense.

Not a Star Defender. It was a Mediator class Battlecruiser... which are alternatively either 1.5 kilometers long or 8.5 depending on which set of numbers for the Viscount you use.

So I pulled a Melfina or River Tam gig in my saga game. Players came back to their ship to find a crate onboard that wasn't there before. They open it up and there is a Chrome droid within. The Liquid Metal droid awakens and stands. It's looked puzzled at the folks surrounding it and as they talked it repeated words said back to it as it processed languages. It eventually was able to speak with the party normally, given the name E-404 (Came up while looking something up in the game) and is now learning about the galaxy.

It's really an experimental droid created by some shadow organization, It was stolen and stashed on the wrong ship. They're going to try to get it back no matter the cost but the party has already kinda endeared themselves to it.

I think this is a part of a broader design philosophy that Star Wars really benefits from. Namely: don't design storylines of X leading into Y into Z. Your players aren't on a script, after all. Instead, create conflicts or create situations that they have to solve, but leave it up to the players to come up with a solution. Construct environments and relationships for your players to explore, not a guided tour of the galaxy.

So they came up with the idea to use a Maneuver to draw a weapon, Action to fire, and strain to Maneuver the weapon away, so it won't be attacked. It took all I had not to smile as I realized by doing so they would be taking more strain that necessary and staying immobile for most encounters if they keep it up. The Starter Box is a great stepping stone to get into the system as a whole. It allows you to learn the dice mechanics slowly and easily.

The bad things are that some of the names of items have been changed from one to the other. 41-VEX has a Medkit, which in Core Rulebook it translates to an Emergency Medpac. This has caused no end of trouble because one of my players is an idiot and refuses to accept that. So hopefully your players are good in that regard. Another negative is the Spec tree in the back of each Pre-made isn't a direct rip from a specific trees in the CRB so if you're going to continue on with the Pre-mades after the initial game you'll want them to go solely out of the book instead. Just remember going in that it's a highly narrative system for both the GM and the Party. They're telling their parts of the story while you bring the world around them to life and describe whats going on as they try to achieve their goals.

As a long time SAGA fan I made the switch recently and I'm so pleased with it that I can say I'm not going back.

>Pregenned, ready-to-go characters
>Really spiffy tokens and maps meant for the module
>$15 worth of dice included
>Only rules for gameplay, no rules for chargen, obligations, ship stats, et cetera
>Leads directly into another free module on FFG's site, Long Arm of the Hutt
>Built specifically to teach people how the system works and how to play

Core Rulebook
>Has rules for chargen and Obligation
>Has stats and prices for weapons, gear, and ships
>Has guidelines for running a full campaign
>Just the book, no other feelies

If you want something to introduce people to the system or take up a single night, get the Beginner's Box. If you know that you want to start a full campaign in EotE and are willing to teach peeps as you go, get the Core book + a pack or two of dice

Ryll is used in medicine. So think of a pharmaceutical junkie. Many of them can fully function in a day to day basis as long as they've got their supply. The second they run dry things change. Cold sweat, anxiety, aggressive behavior, symptoms continue to escalate until they're literally standing outside a pharmacy with a sky mask and crowbar about to break inside.

Different species may react differently to Ryll so you can always pull something and just say it was specific to that species. Dilated eyes, glassy eyes, clammy skin, mild delusions, spatial awareness problems, memory problems, enhanced sensitivity to light, sound, or temperature.

Don't let the player take an addiction and get away with something like "looks stoned, hehe, Cheech and Chong" but still functional. Ryll is a serious spice and addiction to it should reflect that.

Pic shows what happens when you hustle the wrong guy for some creds to buy your next fix.

1. Give it a good once over. Rules come easy after playing it a few dice throws. If you know EotE it's a lot easier to pick up. But it's not something like Paranoia or Everybody is John that you can just wing.

2. Not very crunchy. Skills and characteristics combine to increase the power of the dice you roll. So if you're smart, but unskilled you may roll 4 green dice to realize something about the outer rim. If you're smart AND you went to school to learn about the Outer Rim you may roll 4 yellow. The difference in dice can be doing better actions.

Combat isn't as prevalent as you make it. Although I wouldn't suggest skipping it as it's very fun and played a lot looser than the strict grid based combat of other games.

It's amazing for roleplay as you don't have a "You succeed by 13 points" mechanic. Instead you might have two successes and some threats. You look at the dice and decide that while you may have shot the charging Gurreck, the beast crashes at your feet and knocks you over, leaving you open to a more opportune attack from it's mate. Then the next Gurreck has boost dice that could mean it can hurt you more due to those threats you incurred in your own attack.

Yeah, cover art is Ventress with hair.

>> No.33894657

1) I'd definitely read over the module a few times, and be familiar with the characters and what they can do. Know what the symbols on the dice are, and what they mean. There's reminders all over the starter materials to that effect, thankfully.

2) It's not full freeform like FATE or something, but hella less crunch than PF. Combat is as prevalent as the PCs make it - there's a really strong emphasis on being able to solve problems with different toolsets. And it's fucking amazing to role-play in. The non-success/failure symbols like Threat and Advantage give great opportunities to add narrative flair to actions and can introduce story opportunities that you might not have thought of otherwise. What happens when your slicer rolls 2 Success but 4 Threat when slicing into the main computer? He succeeds, since he generated net successes, but those 4 threat mean he's got some serious complications to deal with...

I think it's the best SW system so far, and has quickly become one of my favorites systems in only a few short months.

Point, although the same could be said of Rogue Squadron. They suffer high casualty rates because they're often sent into some of the worst shit. Allston's original Wraiths were misfits and malcontents, sure, but they were a test run. After Solo Command, I'm sure Face managed to convince NRI to let him recruit from better trained and more disciplined weirdos.

Granted, against Thrawn, they'll still suffer X-COM-grade turnover rates, but they'll probably end up doing a whole lot of damage.
