anyhow, question for this thread: what timeframe do you prefer to run your games in? KOTOR?, clone wars?, pre-yavin? OT era?, NR era? vong era or even later on?

>> No.33635056

I've ran a game in KotOR Era and that went ok. I like the Dark Times into OT Era a lot. I've always wanted to play in a Legacy game.

OT or TCW.

Kotor was fun to play in a game, but unless I'm running Saga and everyone wants to be Jedi it really doesn't do it for me.

NR isn't really fun for me and Legacy is a joke so those are out. Although I would never be opposed to playing in someone else's game if they wanted to do those.

Picture related to the random feels from last thread when I got punked into thinking they had brought Rex into Rebels.

So do you ascribe to the belief that they find a cure for the aging process? This is coming up in my game as two of my players want to bring their RC's into the EotE and are wondering when we should make the cure happen or if they are going to be 60 year old grumpy men running around helping the Rebellion.
What didn't you care for about Legacy? Just curious is all.

Well yeah by then sure. But would it be to far fetched to say sometime during the years between the Rise of the Empire to The Battle of Yavin they could have found it?

I know it's up to my discretion as a GM but since it's establishing something in the world it's a pretty big deal.

>> No.33635398

I figure that all the clone in imperial service got fixed, as did all the clones who went mando. the only ones who didn't get it were those that went rogue during the war, or immediately after. so a trooper who left a year or two after because fuck the empire would have been fixed up, but one who deserted during the war wouldn't UNLESS he went mando

Cure for aging? You think Palpy wanted his warriors for his new Empire decaying that rapidly and put that shit in there? I completely ignore that who thing.

They were made to grow in 10 years, but after that everything stabilized.

And there wasn't a mass exodus to being Mandalorian until Rebels or the new movies say it.

As for Legacy. Well, it was too much inbred family lines and the few sources of it I have seen are just edge to be edge. Never a fan of it.

Not at all, I just normally ignore ALL Mandalorian unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm not a fan of the fanbois for them. I just specifically ignore a special snowflake disease that gets magically cured by the power of love and plot.

I can completely understand this. I've recently been released from my KT hold. I do dig that she gave them more of a presence but yeah the Special Snowflakyness got to me quickly. One of my players is like that still unfortunately. But my other RC character isn't so it's a decent balance.

Hyperspace exploration is still much like 40k in that people follow preestablished lanes for their travel. You don't just go from A to B on the other side of the galaxy. You have to go through C and maybe D before you can get to B.

It's not as "we forgot this whole sector and didn't check our books until 10,000 years later" like 40k... but there are still explorers making random jumps to get the path that might be quicker.

You can also explore the outer rim or expansion region and find planets yourself. Stake claims, sell claim to Czerka or Sienar. Rinse, repeat.

One of my characters was an Arkanian Offshoot who worked for Czerka setting up infrastructure on new worlds for colonies prior to getting roped into doing work with a group. She had her own ship and everything for the jobs... a little personal Sleuth.

I get the impression that part of falling to the dark side is that your force sensitivity, and in many cases the cloistered life of Jedi, makes the emotional rush of everything pretty awesome coupled with human nature to see the best of ourselves. I'd hardly call Starkiller "edgy." Hell, for a guy who was raised by the man who murdered his father (and several others) in front of his eyes, and that person being Darth Vader himself, he is ridiculously upbeat.

That said, the gameplay was decent, I did not like the story at all, but Kota was cool, and I thought Juno Eclipse was decent enough.

It doesn't look anything like what a rebel show should be like in this era: The slow, inevitable grind to death, all for an ideal that seems long faded and irrelevant. >All this using the force like a tool
i shiggity

>> No.33644902

I think you're looking at it in the totally wrong light. 5 BBY isn't a "slow, inevitable grind to death." I mean, the Empire's only been in power for 14 years at this point. The feeling should be "Fuck, can we even do this? I mean, seriously." Less despair and hopelessness, more... awe and trepidation.

And as to the force bits, the dude was just a Padawan before Order 66. His training's not complete, so he's not going to have the deep understanding of how to use the Force as a master.

>> No.33645010

Five BBY the Empire is still at its height of power, there is no rebellion, just a few groups of uncoordinated resistance cells scattered through the galaxy, all of them fighting, all of them dying, all for a cause or more likely because in that moment the Empire is smacking down hard on you. There is no centralized Rebel organization, Mon Cal is firmly oppressed and under Imperial control, wookies are getting enslaved by the you know, alot, resistance throughout the Core up to the mid rim is nonexistant, everyone influential still struggles for the peaceful solution. The separatist holdouts are very vivid in the eyes and minds of the public, and any resistance is associated with evil slaver corporations that drove the galaxy to doom.

This is not a fun time to be a rebel. It is not a period where smugglers say "gee, screw the profits, i'll just travel the galaxy and fight the Empire". But hey, mutton chops and cool kung fu so that's okey

TCW Season 5 spoiler
Bariss probably sold her out

Just because it can be a double bladed spinning mess of vruum-vruum doesn't mean he can't use one blade and fence with it.

I love you for that

You realize apart from the initial death on the Tantive IV, the Imperials CLEANED HOUSE against the Rebels. They merc'd some Jawas, tracked a group of droids to the Lars estate and executed the family by pouring gas on them and lighting them up.

Then we see Han and Luke's plot armor time and time again preventing them from getting shot, but that's the nature of the story. You don't have Siegfried or Hercules being taken out by the mook. Achilles kills EVERYONE only to die to plot. You lose the story if it is the other way around.

Imperials, sadly, aren't supposed to be sympathized with as they've been made up to be these "evil bad guys" who must be stopped. We of course see some in the EU, but the movies and shows most likely won't be supporting them because then it confuses people about who they should be rooting for.

I... uhh... totally saved this one to keep it in the collection. No other reason.

It's not palpatines plan to murder the jedi when they show up on the ship, that's a separate point of deviation. His plan is to engineer himself becoming head honcho. If his plan goes off as originally planned, Obi wan and Qui Gonn don't even show up in Naboo.

Anyway, lets say your shit happens:

>The two jedi die, somehow
This means Jar Jar dies, on the bright side.
Anakin does not win the race since without Qui Gon, there is nobody to convince Watto to front the cost to have him compete in the podrace. Anakin lives an average life, with the occasional force nehanced reflexes untill the day him and his mother get bought free by Lars (was his name lars?). When Tusken raiders attack, Anakin dies, few years later, before he makes any mark on the force, having never done anything to make a splash in it.
>Maul still alive
I guess Palpy has Maul duel Dooku, or he simply never reveals Mauls existence.
>Naboo is legally annexed into the trade federation
Palpatine uses the sympathy to get elected chancellor, then stalls on punitive actions untill the clone wars is fully prepared. Probably doesn't take a whole ten years though, since Trade Federation comes out of the entire event looking alot cleaner.
Darkness spreads through the galaxy. The Force reacts and shits out another equivalent to Anakin. Shame it does so in bumfuckistan nowhereistan again.

Order 66 goes off without a hitch. Empire season power.
New chosen one grows up. Depending on environment, turns out to be a bretty gud guy or a bretty shitty guy.

From there, who knows. Too far ahead to guess, but even if the rebellion fails at Yavin, there's going to be alot of simmering discontent, just not from people who dare to say it outloud. Palpatine finds himself fighting the Tarkin-Vader alliance backed by a Death Star after Yavin.

The IG-110 lightsaber droid was created by the Separatists to deal with the growing involvement of the Jedi during the Clone Wars. They were based heavily on the design of the MagnaGuards, and proved effective in dealing with the lightsaber-wielding Jedi. BDZ started as a Republic code, so yeah. Orbital bombardment's been a thing since the start of the Republic- if anything, it got LESS indiscriminately lethal once they stopped using KKVs and started using starships.

The equivalent to SSDs were Inexpugnable-class command ships and their presumed Mandalorian counterparts.

Page 159 of the Core EotE book talks about not having parts or tools to do repairs - apparently it's allowable at the cost of an extra purple die on the mechanics check per material you lack. So a totally busted weapon with no tools or no parts is 5 purple dice, plus as many setback dice as the GM wants to throw at you.

In a way, it's nice to always have the option, but also point out that unless your mechanic is, like, hypothetical love child of Tony Stark and Macgyver-level good at jury-rigging, that he's likely to fail and / or generate threat that could set the crew back even further.

Also, what is your take on bringing balance to the force? I like the theory that Anakin's actions brought balance by FINALLY ending what was essentially a multi thousand year conflict that started with The Great Hyperspace War.

>> No.33651971

There are two ways you can measure the success of a Sith in ruling the galaxy.

1. How much of the galaxy you control
2. How much of the jedi/light side you destroyed/corrupted

So in regards to the first, you have to keep in mind that Palpatine is not the originator of the sith plan, that's Darth Bane and his successors, and Banes plan wasn't going to happen without the lessons Bane took from Revans holocron. Palpatine was just the right Dark Lord at the right time, if he came a generation later or earlier, well, tough luck, you will be an integral part but yours won't be the name that rings out in the streets of Baltimore, sorry, the galaxy..

Right, with that said there are two main contenders for being the most succesful attempt by a Sith to rule the galaxy. So there's Palpatine, who controls an absolutely massive amount of space. Ofcourse, you have to keep in mind that it has been thousands upon thousands of years since there last was a Sith Empire around, which means the last guy who had a shot was looking at a galaxy that was alot less explored, thus we are going to look at the ratio of territory ruled to space chartered. With that said, the other contender is Darth Revans Sith Empire.
While the Galactic Empire controls a much larger amount of space (pretty much all of known space, directly or indirectly), it does so in a time where much more of it has been discovered. On the flipside, its grasp is much more weaker on much of its territory beyond the expansion region. In contrast, Revans Empire controlled a third of the now known galaxy (proportionally a much greater part of the then charted galaxy), and was at the time of him being betrayed by Malak, said to be months away from taking the Coreworlds and defeating the republic. Essentially, the war was over, except Bastila and the force got their way with a strike team (and Malaks betrayal ofcourse).

>> No.33652031

The turf controlled by Revan was firmly in the Sith Empires grasp, with dark jedi installed on each populated planet (was it sector capital? I apologize for mistakes in advance) as governors, ensuring tight and close cordinated control, not to mention spreading the dark side. That's the turf then, for both sides. With that said, Revan did get smacked down before those last few months could lead to victory against the Republic. Ofcourse, just like after Palpatines death, it's quite revealing to note what happens afterwards: It's not the rebels that defeat the Sith Empire/Galactic Empire, it's the infighting that kills them.

So, lets look at the power of the dark side and how much of it each side smote the Light.
Palpatine ofcourse famously executed order 66 after having already weakened the jedi in the clone wars, including the casualties in the clone wars the Jedi Order fell from in the range of ten thousand to less than two hundred, the overwhelming majority of whom were hunted down or killed (a few corrupted), or gave up their devotion to the jedi code and just took up normal life, which must still count as a form of death and victory for Palps. Pretty neat right?
Except, Palpatines plan is the fallout of a thousand years of preparation and planning, and while he was himself a master manipulator and all that, it's not all that impressive when you consider he was holding every card and then some before he even entered the game. In any case, having won the day, Palpatine sets to working overtime on experimenting with the dark side and generally ensuring that the dark lies heavy on the force.

>> No.33652082

Now, lets contrast to Revan. Goes off to the unknown regions with his own followers and resources of the republic, returns and blitzes the galaxy, within two years the jedi order is reduced to less than a hundred individuals on the brink of total annhilation. He has got the star forge sure, but what really wins the day is strategical genius and realizing, just like Palpatine and his predecessors did, that the Jedi are the republic, and the other way around. Ofcourse, instead of murdering them he ends up getting atleast half the Order to JOIN him, not just at the start, but continually throughout the conflict. What's more of a victory for the dark side and a Sith then. Death, or corruption?

>More flip side: Palpatine did get the new guardians of the galaxy, the clones, to betray the old, so that's pretty deliciously good on the corruptometer too, minus points for them lacking free will so it's less cool

Just my five credits and what is without a doubt an opinion tainted by fanwank of kotor times or whatever.

I think that it was more long training that made them obey special orders without question.

Group just got done with our first session and it was awful, clunky, and boring. The dice system stifled any creativity and narrative. We couldn't tell a story bc none of us could pass a dice check. I love narrative systems. Character creation was fun and pretty free form. Everyone thought they had the character they really wanted and couldn't get out of more strict systems. We thought the game was more about story so optimization which most of us loathe isn't necessary. That we could have generalist instead of dull one trick ponies. We were excited each of us had something to offer in social, combat, and skills. Then we failed every roll. Roll after roll. Just take turns one of us will get it nope. Our big bad brawler failed both his coercion checks to end up pistol whipped with his own gun and shoved down by an npc with less brawn. We couldn't kick a simple turn key door in. It took 9 attempts to stop drop and roll the one character on fire. We failed so many medpac uses that everyone ran out of their encounter use. We spent 2 hours on one awful boring shoot out with 6 v 3 npcs bc only one person could hit. He could hit every time bc he had 5 agility but could do nothing else out of combat bc he had to spend so many points on 5 agility. I failed simple role play, that was played well, bc the dice checks are so misguided. This was the worst part, good role, excellent opportunity for narrative goes up in flames bc a gimped dice system. you need at least a 4 in a characteristic stat to ok and a 5 in it to be reliable. The balance is way off. A narrative game shouldn't have such randomly difficult rolls, it hinders the story the players are telling. Sadly this game seems like it requires the most optimization and the flattest one trick ponies out of any system I have ever tried. As you absolutely need a 5 for something to be reliable and you won't have points to even flesh out the skills or talents that go with that 5 so forget about a halfway decent secondary role.

>when you an Vader say we and our, I get the feeling your referring to a larger idea than just the two of you.
>So have followers of the darkside ever created an order like the Jedi?

He probably would eventually fall. Just he'll be killed end of first season tops.

Jerec knew he was being kept in the Dark and wen on his own hunts for knowledge.

>implying they ever talked to the man.
Largely I imagine anytime Palps visited them it was to give them a new target to go after or a progress report on whatever they were doing.

Most of them were trained as Inquisitorious or thought they were one of a kind Emperors hands or were special agents of one kind or another, point is the overwhelming majority had been brought before Palpatine and at one point or another had their minds blown by him. Literally.

Probably not. In TCW Sidious gets REAL unhappy when he thinks Dooku is training Ventress to be a Sith apprentice, not just a force using assassin. And I think Dooku himself tells her something like "you are NOT Sith"

Is it wrong that I find her attractive?

>> No.33655831

>yellow skin
>probably a gook or atleast CGI figure
>one hand really big, other really small
>unable to complete wholly symmetrical circles
>nose too pokey, probably muggleblood
>armor does not fit a coherent theme, she was probably raped by the clown from IT as a child
>thinks graffiti is an okey form of expressing art instead of taking art classes
>boobplate armor and not full body piece, this is the 1th century before yavin lady not the great hyperspace war
>really freaked out looking gate to the right, probably afraid of being graffiti'd on
2/10 seek aid at your local COMPNOR office
It's perfectly fine although I can't say she looks very attractive from that angle

Anyway, Jedi are a bunch of hypocrites.
>Republic treats slavery as the worst thing ever.
>Jedi commands army that have no health insurance, no chance of retirement and are basically slaves.
>Majority of them see nothing wrong in it.

They mostly deserved what happened to them.

Hey there, Karen.

>> No.33656516

That was sort of the point. Part of the Sithy plot was to get them twisted up into a super morally grey set of circumstances. Making them generals was a master stroke as nothing churns out fallen or sisal liaisons or burned out Jedi like a huge conflict, an in this conflict, down to the padawan level they were put in situations were only a master could have any hope of controlling their emotions.

The idea of them as peacekeepers and philosophers was so undermined by the galactic view of them as warriors an soldiers that everyone swallowed Palpatines assassination ruse, which would have sounded super fake if not for the prolonged clone wars.

It would have been the president saying the Quakers tried to assassinate him. But assume these Quakers had earned a reputation as the effective and deadly commanders of all US forces in The Middle East for the last 10 years and the public might buy into it.

It would be more like if Scientologists actually could wield thetans and were put in important military positions, and then President MIC declares "TOM CRUISE TRIED TO TAKE OVER THE REPUBLIC"
