Why did games workshop drop battle fleet gothic?

Well rather than bitching about it not being supported, what was your favorite BFG experience?
Mine was a games day some years ago when I found this huge BFG game with three factions and six players. The game was stagnating and the eldar and space marines were both being morons, the Tau and Imp Nav. were sitting pretty in good positions though. So I went to each player in turn and suggested how to improve their position in the game. I stayed and watched, and every side reaped a major tally of their chosen target- the highlight being the space marine battle barge doing a ramming attack against a Tau battleship.

I wish I hadn't sold the small Elfdar fleet I had.

Didn't even play gothic back then just bought a fleet cause I liked the ships.

Eventually realised they were just gathering dust so I sold them.

THEN I got into actually playing the game, and then I found the variant move, move, shoot eldar rules ... but the price of that eldar fleet is so much higher now even though it was tiny.

On the flip side, since GW has dropped support, the rules are available online to all.

You can even print-and-play using tokens or potentially the VASSAL module art posted in the series here >>18650623; you'd need to scale and base the images appropriately.

IIRC small ships are 25mm bases, and large ships are 40mm bases. Just measure appropriately, grab a few D6s, a few tokens for blast markers, and you're good to go!

>> No.18653307

>>18651077
The small GW flight base is 32mm in diameter.
The large GW flight base is 60mm in diameter.

There are a lot of ship minis out there to proxy with. Enough to make every fleet look different.

I've always been kinda saddened by the lack of alternatives to imperial, chaos and eldar ships. There isn't much out there model wise even close to being similar.

At least you can scratch build or kitbash Orks and Nids really easily but the other three would take a lot more work.

>> No.18658051

>>18657515

Use Photoshop or GIMP to resize them; start with one as a test image.

You'd probably want to resize the image so the base diameter will be 32mm.

But really, the actual size of the printed token doesn't matter so long as you base them on something that's the right size - cut out a circle of cardstock that's the appropriate size.

>> No.18658071

>>18657515

Magnetizing is a good idea. You'll also probably want to set out several torpedo and fighter counters (possibly use cut-down post-its if you don't have enough magnets).

Base size is somewhat less important for fighters, but pretty crucial for torps - although I believe the latest edition of the rules standardizes the size of all salvos.
