"I want to- but-"

I try to think of the right words to make me not sound like a terrible person.
"But then she'll know I was trying to meddle!"

Yes, perfect Masami.

Maeda sighs, "Kaori understands that you're at least a little bit curious. So just ask her and the whole problem will go away."

"Just-" I try to put my thoughts into words. "Just tell me if it's a boy or not, and I'll stop worrying."
"Masami.."
"If not!" I put my hands up, "Then it's fine! No harm! I don't care in the least!"

"Masami."

She grabs my shoulder, and points to Kaori. She's listening to all sorts of gossip from the twins! Oh no!

"Go. Ask. Her."

I don't like confronting my sister directly about this. I mean, she DID ask for this to be private between her and Maeda.
But, at the same time, I really shouldn't go behind her back.

"Okay."
"And if you need any love advice, you just-"
"I don't need any love advice!"

I approach Kaori, with Maeda close behind me. She's happily talking with the twins.
And they're putting all sorts of bad ideas in her head.

"I think-" Julie smiles in that wicked way, "It's definitely Ken."
"Ohh? Ken?" Haruko stretches her arms, "I would thinks girls are more her type. Like Aiko, for instance."

The whole time, Kaori is listening to this and blushing.

"Kaori-"
"Masami!" She turns toward me with a flick, "Are you in love with a boy?!"
"What? no!"

"Oh, so it's a girl?" Her eyes light up, "Who is it?! Is it Aiko?"

"Kaori! I want to know, were you asking Maeda about a boy?"

The light in her face goes out, and she pouts.
"Oh, that's what this is about."
"Yes!"

"Hmph." She pouts, "It's not love. I- found something."

"Found something?"

"Want to see it?"

>Sure!
>No, it's your business.
>Okay. But-
>I'm not in love with anyone!
>Other?

"Rrrr." I mumble. "Why can't we just call him?"

"No problem, Masami." Kaori huffs, "Want to hold the phone for him? Because he can't sit up in bed."

Oh.
Well, that is a serious concern.

"Okay, let's go meet him before Mom wakes up."
"Good, we can teleport there. Let's just wake up, and then we'll just hop right over to-"

"Kaori." I find it baffling that I have to remind her of this.
"what?"

"Your clothes, you're just in your panties."

She blinks twice, as if she's confused.
"He's seen me naked before, let's go."

"No, Kaori. No. When you leave the house, you need to wear clothes. Let's do this properly."

"True, but we're just going to the hospital, there's naked people everywhere there."

Kaaaoooorriiiiii.
"No, put your uniform on, we'll leave when you're dressed."
"I think we're just wasting time." Kaori pouts, "But okay."

--

A short hop later, two schoolgirls miraculously appear inside of a very private suite located deep within the upper floors of the local hospital. A place where only the richest of the rich find themselves when they are injured.

One of those rich people finds themselves here now. Surrounding the room, machines rhythmically beat and hum. One with an annoying beep continuously squeals in the corner of the room.

You can't imagine how this man sleeps.

In the center of the room is a bed, king-sized. Kaori casually starts to stroll toward it.

>Kaori! What are you doing? Use caution here!
>Check the room for any cameras or security systems
>No, it's probably fine.
>Ask Kaori if she knows what she's doing.
>Just let Kaori do everything, no suspicious stuff.
>Other?

Hold on, I CAN help.
There is definitely a way I can help.

"Mir."
"(Hmm?)"
"I'm not going back just yet."

I can't see it, but I know she just gasped in shock.

"(Why!?)"
"Well, FIRST off, I want you to help me text Mom and tell her that I'm safe."

"Then." I continue, still not letting go of her hand. "We're going to go find my sister, because something tells me that she's already in trouble."
"(Hold on, stop, no)" Mir pulls her hand away, I flip back into visibility. "(This is what got you captured last time! I'm not getting captured just because you can't keep yourself safe!)"

"I don't HAVE to get captured, you see." I pull her formless body into a hug, immediately I flicker back out of existence. "Because I have my loving little sister here to keep me invisible and safe!"

"(Kaori.)" I can almost feel her pouting. "(You are SO MUCH LIKE MASAMI that it's frightening.)"
"No I'm not! I'm the dependable big sister!" I smile at her. "That's why I have to keep an eye on her."

Mir grumbles as I feel a gentle tug toward the stairwell.

When we reach the top; I take out my phone and-
I can't see my phone, because I'm invisible and so is it. Great plan, Kaori.

"Hold on." I grumble. "I need to send a text, can we duck into that alleyway?"
She says nothing, and leads me into the quiet sanctuary. I quickly fade back, and rapidly type to Mom telling her that I'm safe, then stuff it back in my pocket.

"Okay, let's go."
"(Where are we even looking for Masami?)"
"Back where I was, in the park. That's where I had that concrete dumped on me."
"(I don't want it dumped on me. Should we really go straight there?)"

>"Let me take a moment and meditate, maybe I can discern where some people are nearby."
>"I'll just text Mom and tell her I'm coming to find her."
>"I have an idea. I'll use my speed card and give you a piggyback ride there."
>"I'll text my friends! I'm sure they're caught up in this already."

"No it's fine. " I say to her. "We can talk. This is about trying to get Aiko back, right?"
"This is about something else." Kaori looks anxious. "Maybe we should talk about this somewhere in private?"

"Um, okay." I stand up. "Lead the way!"
Almost instantly, we find ourselves in another room of the mansion.

"Wow." I look around, in awe. "You need to show me how you do that!"
"Maybe later." Kaori sips from a cup of tea. "You wanted to talk about getting Aiko back?"
"Right! Right. I would. You knew Aiko's mom long before I did, why is she acting that way now?"

"Well." Kaori looks away. "When she found me in father's mansion, she offered to teach me some things for self-defense."
"Did she know who you were?"

Kaori averts her gaze away from me, "I sort of lied about who I am to Marie. I said I was the Chairman's daughter, and she was so horrified when she found out that she wanted to adopt me on the spot."
That's good news, Aiko's mom must have a soft spot somewhere.
"It doesn't really matter." Kaori pouts, "She probably really hates me now, that she knows the truth about us."
"Don't say that!" I stand up. "She's just in a very tough position right now. I'm sure she's a good person at heart!"
I think.

"In any case," Kaori sighs, "We also need to talk about our family, and its future."

"Future?" I feel confused.
"I mean." Kaori looks for the right words. "We got a lot of new sisters in the past day, right?"
"And a brother." I correct her.

"..Right, right. How many more do you think we're going to get?"

I think about her question, searching for an answer.
"I don't know. I guess it depends on how many more monsters there are, and how many of them turn. I guess cards, too."
"Masami." She seems worried, "That could be a LOT of monsters. Do you really think Mom can support all those new kids? We're not an orphanage."

>"I don't want to talk about this anymore right now."
>"I guess that's Mom's decision."
>"Maybe you're right."
>"But what do we do?"
>Other?

I suddenly remember that she seems to have some kind of special powers while she's sleeping. While I don't see where she's going with this, I do understand that she at least has a plan of some kind.

"Let her sleep, I'm going to search around here and if I find anything, I'll call you back."

I hang up the phone and start searching through the rooms. First is the Chairman's office.
Before, when I could at least feel that there was hidden furniture and things inside of here, now there is nothing. It's very clearly an empty room, and I can feel that it's empty even on the 'other side'. They sure didn't take a lot of time looting his office, did they?

Next to it is the room that had the weird clock in it. For some reason, it's locked. Strange.

Lastly is the room with the cigarette smoke in it. It still smells, and I'm still not sure why a monster would need to smoke.

So that means the only door of value is the one that's locked.
That's when, I feel something shaking me. I don't feel anyone's hands on me, but it's still like I'm feeling a shaking sensation.

I don't see anything, though!

I look behind me, then to the side of me. Then something taps my shoulder again.

I turn around to be face to face with a WHITE KAORI IN A WHITE DRESS?

WHAT?!

>Scream!
>Fall on my butt with a shocked look on my face
>Freak out and hide
>N-no! No! Wait! This must be one of her powers! I wish she had told me!
>Other?

"Then I'll just have to come visit you! I think Masami and I wanted to stop by anyway." Aiko says, sticking her tongue out.

Kaori reaches below the booth, and pulls out a card, it's a joker card. I think she took that out of the deck before she started.
"Oh, what does that mean?"
"It means you're a jerk, here, take it, it's on the house." she says, flicking it over to Aiko for her to catch.

Kaori's expression softens as she looks toward me,
"Hey Masami, want me to take your fortune? It'll distract both of us from the very poor example of manners on display here." she says with a smile.
Aiko only scoffs and goes to look at the club's ledger.

"What club is this again?" I ask, I don't think Fortune telling has it's own club.
"Occult." She says, soft smile.
"That sounds scary!" Not going to lie, she would see right through it.

"If it's too scary, I don't have to take your fortune." She says, shuffling the deck some more.

>Sure, take my fortune
>No. I rather find out for myself
>Other? Maybe ask her anything about it? Maybe about the occult club?
