the oldest living being certainly, according to word of god from the codex he's been a thing for as long as the tyranids have and has oversaw the consumption of six galaxies before this one

dudes probably more experienced a primarch when it comes to commanding an army, its no wonder it outplayed calgar so hard

>‘The Swarmlord,’ whispered Remas, stepping to his side.

>‘It lives,’ said Cassius.

>How was that possible? He had seen this thing die twice, had seen it left crushed and broken on the ground. And yet still it stood before him. There could be no mistaking it. He felt the old urge again, the need to kill the abomination, to crush it so thoroughly that it could never spread its foul influence across any corner of the galaxy ever again.

>The Swarmlord turned away from the veterans and strode across the sinew bridge towards the chamber they had entered from. As it reached the cavern wall, a membrane yawned wide to let it pass. It paused, turned to stare back at Cassius one more time and the Chaplain felt the throbbing in his skull build to a crescendo. Then the repulsive presence drained from his mind, and the creature was gone.

My god. Again? The Swarmlord again? How many times do they have to kill it in the same story.

This is killing me!

>A SINGLE CHAPTER IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR A TENDRIL

Ultramar is the single most heavily defended planet in the entire eastern fringe of the galaxy, founded and fortified by a primarch

they had months of forwarning thanks to the tyran signal

they Recalled every warship in the region, ending up with dozens of imperial navy ships, the entire complement of a FIRST FOUNDING CHAPTER's worth of strike cruisers, all their battle barges and several militarised merchant vessals that had been conscripted, as well as an assload of orbital defence platforms

the ensuing battle resulted in Calgar losing an eye and all of his extremities, his entire honour guard, his entire FIRST COMPANY hundreds of losses scattered throughout the rest of the chapter, most of their strike cruisers, and a Irreplacable Emperor Class Battleship

it would take the Ultramarines Hundreds of years to even begin to recover from these losses, and enough of behemoth survived the fight to form an entirely new hive fleet, Hive Fleet Dagon

not as one sided as you're making it out mate

there was a moment in the tyranid codex called the fall of shadowbrink where the nids managed to win against daemons in a game of attrition
they did this because daemons require the soul and essence of mortals to sustain themselves outside the warp, and the tyranids didn't have any souls
eventually the daemons power waned to such an extent that the power of the shadow in the warp was sufficient to banish them, although the tendril in question was heavily diminished by the battle
so there is presidence for the shadow fucking around with daemonic power, although I doubt there are enough tyranids in the universe to pull a similar trick with the Eye considering the sheer size of the thing
but yeah, tyranids don't fuck with daemons for the same reason they don't fuck with necrons, its just not worth it
the entry did say something about the nids seeing daemons not as prey like the rest of the galaxy but rather as a rival predator, which seems pretty cool

My PCs are cowards. Only focused in saving themselves. Kinda sad that after a 2 year running Only War game I can't recall a single epic thing they did...

And I have been forever DM'ed so no stories from me. Keep being epic /tg/, for the emperor.

>Genestealers cultists have been known to infiltrate organizations within the worlds of the Imperium. They could easily alter battle reports and information about the Tyranids.
I doubt it. Did anyone alter the report of Papa Smurf losing to the Swarmlord? I think Swarmie knows Calgar won't lie about what happen. It'll remember.
>In the old fluff, the Broodlord can contact the Chaos powers and request their aid.
Not relevant in modern 40k.

Tyranids will probably survive anyway. The Hive Mind will probably lose itself for a little while before reestablishing dominance after the Tyranids finish turning on themselves and there's probably at least 5% left of them.
