If you were doing an autistically accurate medieval game you would be using a dozen different measurements. You would have different measurements for travel by horse vs on foot, different measurements of weight depending on different types of food or what the objects are stored in, different measurements for time depending on how close you are to different types of civilization, etc.

However you shouldn't, because your players aren't from such a culture and don't understand it. It doesn't register with them organically to use alternative measurements. So instead use the standard they're used to because it's not important to the game or story in the slightest. It's a detail that bogs down the story and game and therefore should be dropped.

You playing with Americans? Use inches. With anyone else? Meters. With brits? Use meters but miles for traveling. Your characters could be lost in space among aliens that use entirely different systems of measurement, but then they get translators that convert measurements to what they know so it doesn't matter. The aliens using a measurement of time more like metric and adapted for space doesn't matter because it would bog down the game.

Is it important to the story? Does it impede on the story? If the answers to those are no and yes then whatever it is should be dropped without a thought. Adding detail and flavor is fine but not when it gets in the way.

My local group knows two RPG's, D&D and Dungeon World. yes we all know you think this is either the worst or the best game ever. Let's not go into it, nobody want's to have this pointless discussion again.
Both classic fantasy, humans, elves, dwarves, fighters, rogues, rangers, wizards,... same old same old. The mechanical focus of both games is different, but most GM's in my social group houserule them until they almost play the same. I'm not even exaggerating that much, it's insanity.

I want to introduce them to something different. A lot different in fact. Tell me about all the RPG's you love that are completely different from the cliché fantasy RPG, both mechanically and thematically. Bonus points if they are even hardly RPG's anymore.

For example, I've played some Dread, a horror RPG that is played by pulling from a yenga-tower. Pdf's welcome.

>Intellectuals. In a world that constantly demands 100% effort just to stay alive, it’s very rare to see a group even partially dedicated to mental pursuits, but here one is. Usually considered too brainy by other groups, these fellows spend their off time reading salvaged books and maybe even doing a little science/inventing/archaeology. Hold themselves to a higher standard of intelligence/knowledge than others.

Intellectual cannibals?

Why not just use the system built around balance instead of taking the extra time to balance your lists against each other?

Do you prefer point buy or random rolling systems /tg/?

What are some good examples of point buy systems? What are some bad ones?

What are some good roll generation systems? What are some bad ones?

Pic only mildly related

>Slaneesh, god of excess and perfection
>Greater demons are called Keepers of secrets

Why? Surely they'd be better served with a name like "lords of excess" or "perfects" or something. Keeper of Secrets sounds more tzeentch appropriate if you ask me.
