Is there any benefits of having Asperger’s syndrome from a scientific standpoint?

>> No.9817273

No. You can have high IQ and not be a fucking social retard

Also, a diagnosed feature for Asperger's and HFA is an average to above average IQ, which automatically places you within a favorable range of academic ability.

>>9817273
A diagnosed feature of HFA (and related ASD conditions) is the requirement of an average to above average IQ.
So you're wrong.
If they have a below average IQ, it isn't AS, or HFA.

No, whilst everyone is on the autistic spectrum (as that's literally what a spectrum means), it's about the amount of observable traits you have.
Also, pic related.
And, because I know you don't know this, but spatial processing is extremely important for mathematical (and logical, in other words academic) ability.

Partly, but another diagnostic characteristics is certain dedication or interest(s) that you focus solely upon. Which can be extremely helpful when studying, whereas the normal person might lose interest or burn out.

Another diagnostic characters is an average to above average IQ.
So, again, you're partially wrong.
In fact, even if you DID have an average IQ (and therefore able to have AS or HFA), having other characteristics like better spatial processing, memory; attention to detail and autistic obsession (among others) would mean you could function BETTER in STEM than a peer of the same IQ.
So, now you've gone from partially wrong, to completely wrong IN THIS CONTEXT.

I got this idea the other day for a device that would stop you from ever being able to look at another face again. It would need to have a forward facing wide angle camera and an eye tracking camera so it could tell when your eyes were approaching a face. It would have electrodes that painlessly stimulate your eye muscles so every time you are about to focus on a face your eyes would be forcibly steered away just enough so that you couldn't look directly at it. You'd be able to see faces in your peripheral vision, but it would totally stop you from looking directly at one. If something like that was possible to build and implant into a person, I wonder what sort of psychological damage it would cause.

There was that episode where people could block each other, but I feel like my idea would be even worse. The feeling of being so close to looking at someone but never being able to lock on would be a terrible punishment.

Diagnosed autist here. Some of the signs depicted in this infographic seem pretty inconsistent with autism. "No response to sound" and "No real fear of dangers" are especially suspicious. My cowardice and preference for medium-level sound can be attributed to autism desu.
