Is the next step of human evolution artificial intelligence?

It's a hypothetical question, and I doubt it's possible to replicate sentience since it is mathematically impossible according to this study:

However, if humans ever develop the technology to artificially create consciousness in a non-biological being, would that make humans obsolete? could it be possible that we play the role of god, and outlive ourselves as a species?

id say next step is human augmentation, either biologically or mechanically, then preceded by heavy gene augmentation, then artificial intelligence systems use nanobots to upload our consciousness's into a massive collective digital mind, then not needing food or water we just convert our entire solar system into energy and spread our hive mind into the far reaches of space looking for more energy to grow stronger. there we will most likely find other hive minds with our same purpose and maybe we will form into an even larger collective. all of this could start in the next 70 years, so we will all probably be involved in it and be a collective consciousness one day

either that or our next president will start international war and we'll be nuked back to the stone age.
