Are geniuses and innovators made or born?

>> No.7911036

>or

If a popular dichotomy has survived more than twenty years, it's safe to say the answer is both or neither and the split exists only to sell print media.

A very smart person is born and (just maybe) then genius is cultivated

Basically this.

A person born with amazing potential might produce genius-level work even when they don't have a great upbringing, though a truly horrible one can cripple them.

A person born with good potential might produce genius-level work if their upbringing is great, but they'll need more help along the way.

An idiot isn't going to produce great work, regardless of their training.

the popular example of made vs born genius is Picasso vs Cézanne. Picasso got famous in his twenties. Cézanne died before he got famous. Picasso was just brilliant. Cézanne was a neet who needed an allstar support team his entire life to cultivate his talent. Both created what contemporaries consider Masterworks.

>If geniuses are made
You are completely responsible for not being a genius. "I am not a genius. Feels bad, man, I got to rev up those logic books and hard games. I got to 'git gud', I suck so bad"
>if geniuses are born
It's 100% not your fault for not being a genius. "I am not a genius, I will never put in hard effort on books because it is not my fault that it is hard and unpleasant for me. It won't make me a genius anyway, so this is alright. I am alright."

If we are not sure, we will have to go with "geniuses are made" because it has a reward if we desire to be geniuses. And those who have no such desire, find no reward in it.

So it boils down to: if you think geniuses are good, then you believe geniuses are made
if you think geniuses are not good, then you believe geniuses are simply born

And then I ask you: is there any scientist who thinks geniuses are not good? No. So scientists, and therefore science, says that geniuses are made, and science supposedly speaks the truth. So, there, geniuses are made.
