Ok frens, I’m a senior in electrical engineering and I want to start building my pure math knowledge. I am going to read a textbook this summer. Which is better to learn first, linear algebra or real analysis?
>why not read two textbooks at once
I’m autistic and have OCD and it’s very difficult for me to read. It is a very slow process so I would prefer to stick to one book over the summer. I have Shilov’s Linear Algebra and Tao’s Analysis 1. Any advice would be appreciated!

wait what.
you should have taken linear algebra in sophomore year, its required.

real analysis is about proofs. imo engineers should spend their time more with practical math. unless its just a hobby

Linear Algebra. Have you taken proofs?

I am not your "fren" newfag

I took some basic linear algebra but it wasn’t proof based or at the level of rigor that Shilov’s is at. Also I guess it is kind of a hobby, but I do think that some rigorous analysis can help in electrical engineering.

Nothing proof based no. Just applied. My autism goes crazy though and I like to understand the foundations of things like signal processing and electrical systems.

That’s too bad. Also Isaac Newton was a good man.

Read Book of Proof

I just looked into it. Sounds like a good read and useful for me. Thanks for the recommendation!

I just read the introduction. I think I’ll read Book of Proof this summer instead of Shilov or Tao. Thanks!
